Don't digital games come with a digital manual?

This game is an overrated turd, and far from the best shmup on the saturn

The game is very basic OP. You don't need to read any manual just go in and enjoy I guess.

I agree to this, plenty of better ones, namely anything by Konami, Wolf Fang, Hyper Duel etc.

Play games you care about. If you can't connect with a game then ask yourself why. A large part of enjoying a new game is observation and reflection.

level up your weapons by killing things of certain colors and basically ignoring other things. Optimal play is really weird looking because it's not about killing things it's just about specific targets. Some boss cycles are bullshit and aren't set up well to be avoided but rather bruteforced past.

It's kind of hollow and unsatisfying when you're supposed to just combo specific colors. It feels ghey and like you're playing some dumb frick game and not a proper shooter. Here's a webm of what optimal play looks like so you can become the most powerful. If you think this is stupid congratz, you're not going to like rsg once you "get it" because it is just pretty stupid. treasure gimmick.

Can you play it like a regular shooter, or do you have to get weird with it?

It'll take forever to kill any bosses and you'll die a lot more.

I played it for like 10 hours and it sucks. You gotta replay the same shitty sections millions of times before you can get good to play further. Its good in a few aspects, but after a while, you realise the game is stupid and you gotta be an uber autist to truly enjoy it. Its a tiring game for normal people

Most arcade games are fun to play and you can feed some coins to keep playing. Radiant Silvergun feels like a chore. Its too slow and boring to make you restart.

I'm a shmup fan, and I hated Radiant Silvergun.

Okay, to be fair the music is incredible and the graphics were great for its time. The game is also quite long and has an enormous amount of content. The levels and bosses are creative.

What I absolutely hated is that you NEED to upgrade your weapons to beat the game. To upgrade your weapons, you MUST chain enemies. As discussed in this thread, that means playing the game is a strange and unsatisfying manner. You're not just blasting shit like in DoDonPachi, you're instead just killing enemies of the same color only to boost your chain score.

That also means that if you don't play like you're autistic and to max your score, you may not be able to finish the game. That's not fun to me.

Just finishing the game does not require autistic levels of optimization at all. The fact that one has to score atleast a little is very good.

        >The fact that one has to score atleast a little is very good.
It's not just a little though, it's the main focus of the entire game if you want to get anywhere.

There's no problem with that. It's an arcade shooter that requires skill and knowledge.

            Anonymous

I never said it was a problem, only that there's more than "a little" focus on scoring, it's the game.

      >You're not just blasting shit like in DoDonPachi
It's a bit funny how in DDP to do good you also need to memorize the stage and kill things in exact order, but blasting everything on screen in an order is extremely satisfying while leaving 2/3 of enemies fly past you you feel like a moron.
If there was arrange mode where comboing works like in Ikaruga it would be a pretty good game.

Obviously you don't need to grind the whole game, and growing more powerful is fun. The game has you play in a sort of restrained way, but it's very cathartic once you shred bosses in seconds and see your hard effort rewarded.

People in this thread are complaining about the chaining system, but that's part of the reason I fell in love with this game. Also, the sword is fun as frick.

It's a great game. Come up with a route and practice it for every level and the game will be enjoyable. Don't know if the pc port has saves but practicing with save states on an emulator makes the process simple.

Enjoy the great audio, visuals and the overall atmosphere, those still haven't been rivaled in the genre.

people whine about ikaruga scoring requiring you to memorize where all the spawns are in each level, and then they go play this shit which literally can only be played that way because that system is how you level your weapons.
there are like 4 good Treasure games and none of them are shmups.
