Well shit, I'm pleasantly surprised. I do have some wicked tinnitus from time to time, but I can hear those pitches still. I've been to dozens of heavy metal concerts, only some with earplugs. I saw Megadeth live, and was literally leaning on a stack of amps. Flown on countless flights over the years. I have spent a fair amount of time at firing ranges, but have always worn ear protection then. I have no idea how I even still have hearing.

          it's unironically just genetics
some people can listen to headphones at max volume all their life and barely take damage while some people lose their hearing no matter what precautions they take

              yes
to be serious though, no. you are probably just somewhere in between. maybe a bit further on the resilient side.

Have you had a proper hearing test? It's worth it, and pretty cheap/easy to get done.

You might not have as many pitches as you think. I'll almost guarantee you have "DJ Deafness" (I forget the exact name audiologists use), which is a certain range of sound that's totally destroyed by loud concerts (DJ's suffer from it a lot, hence the start of the name).

If it doesn't bother you, it's fine, but it's worth knowing about potential hearing problems in advance as some things can be mitigated with prior knowledge.

I don't think I've had a hearing test since I was 8. I probably should look into that. Thanks for the heads up.

Who in their right mind would want to play on those old screens again when we now have much better screens and emulators that can upscale games better and, most importantly, eliminate the crappy motion blur that plagued PS2 games?

people who don’t mind and want to experience things as they did in the past (for nostalgia, comfort)

that's fricking moronic, honestly. Videogames usually don't age as well as movies, TV shows, or music, period. I'm playing many games from my childhood thanks to emulators, and what many people can't accept is that a lot of those games haven't aged well AT ALL and were poorly designed from the start. The thing is, they were novelties, titles with hardly any competition. Anyone who doesn't see this has serious problems and probably blames everyone around them for their issues because they can't enjoy anything anymore.

It's odd how it does feel comfy. I watched Fight Club and Blade Runner on a dvd using PS2 and a CRT TV. Enjoyed it very much. Can't explain exactly why.

yeah, it’s hard to quantify and very subjective. a lot of people just don’t get it, why not fidelity-max and get the best picture and sound. personally, watching those two movies on a crt sounds like a cozy night..
