I like games where you're just some little dude with a sword killing monsters and saving the world.
What are some good ones?

Ever heard of the Legend of Zelda?
OP asked for good ones
You should play the Legend of Zelda then.
He didn't say Hydlide.
MediEvil.
Oh good. You got to level 2.
Ys, all of them. I've only played Felghana's PC port, but all of them are that. They're basically "what if 2D Zelda quadrupled down on good combat, and nothing else" so what you see is what you get.
Bumper cars is good combat?
Yes.
Yes. Or just play the ones that play like Felghana, you're a smart lad, I shouldn't have to explain this to you
>you're a smart lad
You don't know me, I'm actually quite stupid
Don't say that about yourself. Don't ever say that.
Ys is overrated tbh. The ones without bump combat (which is an objectively moronic game mechanic, if you disagree you're moronic and probably autistic) are good, but the people here who jack off about how super totally awesome they are massively overstate their quality.
Please explain to the class what's different from running into an enemy until they explode and running into an enemy while mashing an attack button until they explode.
There's no strategy to bump combat aside from making sure you're correctly placed to run into the enemy. With a button attack you can at least time attacks, hit enemies from a distance, have a wide arc, etc. (all dependent on the hitboxes, of course).
The biggest difference is timing button presses to make sure your weapon hits your target. Though you could argue this is more forgiving seeing as you have an extended reach, as opposed to just slamming into the enemy directly.
I actually like both forms of combat, but I feel like bump combat is overhead action RPG melee combat distilled down into its purest form. Ys 2 further added onto this by giving the player spells to fire off during combat. I feel like there could be something really fricking cool combining Ys combat with Zelda style tools and items to use in a fight.
Another one I really like
3D Dot Game Heroes
Crusader of Centy
Golden Axe Warrior
Willow
Alundra
It's not helpful if you don't say that's Soul Blazer. The sequels are also relevant.
Neutopia 1 and 2 on PC Engine. Also the first Mana game on Game Boy, I forgot the name it's Final Fantasy something or another.
>Turn based combat
ick! Not even a game
None of the games I listed have turn based combat. Both Neutopia games play exactly like Zelda 1, and the first Mana game plays like Link's Awakening.
Please go be moronic somewhere else.
Okay moron
FF adventures iirc
what game is this op?
Are the NA localizations of Neutopia 1 and 2 good?
Crystalis (NES)
cheers
I's a genuonely good game, on my NES top 5. Try it if you're into this sort of action-adventure game
I've always enjoyed Zelda clones but never went back to play old ones so I'll give it a go for sure
Why would you want to play the localization of anything?
No-one is going to say Beyond Oasis or was that too obvious
Brave Fencer Chadsashi
FFA AKA FFMQ(GB)
>Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
>Terranigma
>Diablo
>King's Field II
>Trials of Mana
Beyond Oasis and it's big bro Legend. Though I guess you're not totally alone because you have cool elemental friends to do things like turn rats into delicious cooked hunks of meat.
It's still rat meat though, that's kinda nasty
James Bond (Game Boy)
Brain Lord
I had no idea the protag's hair was blue in the JP version.
Also this game shits the bed really, really hard after a few dungeons in and it stops being fun. Which sucks because whacking shit with swords and jumping around feels great, great variety with weapons and spells too.
As a kid I would specifically seek out this genre (top down adventure games) because Zelda and Pokemon were my absolute favorites but most all of them were disappointing. Very few games have "good game energy" aka GGE aka Japanese spiritand the perspective and general mechanics have no predictive power whether a game will have it
Dungeon Explorer 2
beyond oasis
Probably Gauntlet
