The picture quality is significantly better than anything you could have owned back then, and that's even with shitty connections like composite. Most of them support S-Video and/or RGB, which is easy to convert from SCART.
I bought a VGA CRT today for about $50 that's 1280x960. I still need a DisplayPort to VGA adapter. I wish I could just replace the whole fricking cable though. Never understood why old monitors had the VGAs hardwired considering the amount of bent/broken pins I've seen in my time.

Got myself an Akai from a local hospital back in 2012/2013 or so. Phenomenal. Didn't even realize how good it would be for everything.
