The story is extremely massive so if you play all the games youre more likely to be emotionally invested. The soundtrack is the best vidya music ive ever heard so theres that too. The music pulls on peoples heart strings especially what they used in the reveal trailer

I replayed 1 and 2 recently with the collection and I had completely forgotten how Sora manages to be correct through moron strength most of the time.
Like how Ansem goes through an entire speech about how everything goes to Darkness, ans Sora pretty much just goes 'Nuh uh' and beats the shit out of him for four phases.

Kingdom Hearts contains the best elements of both Square Enix's Final Fantasy and Disney combined making it accessible to both sides of the aisle. Sora is the perfect encapsulation of that with his happy go lucky and determined attitude and badass keyblade skills.

It's a game, thats it, it's litterally a game that doesn't pander to anyone or anything, not to a single human or way of thinking, its just a 100% game with stupid moments that are funny if you want fun (you know that thing that makes life enjoyable).
Also its secret bosses in 2 and dlc bosses in 3 are among the best action bosses in gaming, also music is top tier.
Because fans were likely five to eight years old when they played the first KH game. If you were lucky and had the money to keep up with most of the series growing up, this would probably be very cathartic to see. Like other people said, emotional investment.
