I think LoL is moronic and I don't spend money on "free to play" games, gacha shit, loot boxes etc, but is it really abnormal to spend $200 on hobbies? If you buy a couple of new releases every month than you'll easily be spending that much on games alone. I often hit that number between games and paying for kendo practice. Why are these devs so out of touch?

you'd be surprised how many luxurious looking normies are debt-ridden deadbeats
200$ is a lot for vidya but not so much IX you compare it to any outdoors hobby

People will consume several thousands on shit they don't need in installments every year to get the shiny new thing and then wonder how they still struggle paying rent (they will blame capitalism on this)

The problem with money on games is that for 99% of people, even actual full on neets, spending that much money on games will never make sense because the human brain will always consider gaming a wasted time activity, regardless of the context. Its always gonna be a more logical decision to spend 100$ dollars on a nice outing, new hardware, or other stuff instead of buying a game or its shitty microtransactions. That's why most hardcore neets get good at downloading cracks and stuff from a young age, and most grow up to only buy games that are either on extreme sales, or even if they really want to purchase a game on day one, they get it through one of those CD key websites that offer lower prices.

The only people that actually consistently buy games/dlc/micros are content creators. Since they can just use the bullshit money they make from videos to get that content and they don't see it as "wasted" money.

Even the most antisocial neets would rather pay money on upgrading their setup, merchandise or house decorating than games. Software will never be seen as valuable as an actual physical product, ever.

Idk it depends. I paid like $200 on games during Steam summer sale a few years ago and it was awesome.

Do you buy 4 AAA releases every month at full price? They don't even release that many. And that's not even a game. That's a shitty skin for 1(one) character.

No. I pay fees for kendo and I buy one or two new releases per month and maybe some discounted stuff. Sometimes I don't get new releases and pick up older stuff.

The average League player pays nothing. Its a free game after all.
So you have like 60% of the playerbase paying nothing, 30% paying for a skin for their favourite champ once a year or 2, then 9% buy lots of skins for lots of champs frequently and these players fund most of the game and then you have the top 1% of whales who are willing to drop $500 on an exclusive skin who balance out the non spenders.

I can buy this skin. I simply won't. I think it's stupid. I'd rather spend that money on prostitutes who will dress up as Ahri and cater to my impregnation fetish.

Are there actual hookers who will cosplay as Ahri for less than 500 bucks?

League isn't getting much new blood so Riot is trying to squeeze as much as possible from the current userbase.

I don't know why they didn't just release that fighting game & mmo. They're being autistically perfectionist about it.

It's more than money, I suppose, it's about diving your playerbase into classes. The aristocratic $500-skin-havers and the second or even third class f2p.

It's not abnormal, but when you spend $200 on a hobby, you expect to get something out of it instead of some skin that absolutely isn't worth $500. You could probably buy a figurine of that skin for less money lol(as in laughing out loud)

Funny you should say that - You can get the statue of the skin...$100 cheaper.

If you have $200 to spare every month on League bullshit, you're better off buying a physical figure () or even commissioning some artist for a piece of Ahri hentai and still having some change left over than you would be buying a skin for a live service game.

It's really a difference of what you're paying for.
When I pay for private lessons, I'm getting someone with decades of experience to fully focus on training me for an hour. That's a very limited commodity by a trained professional for my hobby, that I know is extremely expensive but is worth it for improving my skills.

When I pay for a league skin, it's a mass produced digital object made by some dude in china over the course of a work week. It has no value to it and is only applicable to one character on one game and will eventually become meaningless.

I've spent plenty of money on vidya, but shit like this will always be a scam. You're not getting anything of value for your money, just a glorified jpeg (or 3d model in this case), and when the game closes down you'll have nothing to show for that wasted money.

The other question is if your hobby is video games, or exclusively league of legends.

Crazy thing is that you can sell a skin for $500 and morons will buy it just to show that they have money (protip: they usually don't and spend what little they have desperately trying to not look poor)

I'll be honest, if I were to pay $500 for a skin it better be sexy as frick. I want to see ass and big breasts you feel me? There's none of that going on so pass.
