Are there any /vst/ games where you can essentially start a cult and lead your people on a conquest to subjugate the land?
I like games that I can play for a while like Rimworld instead of mission based games.

    Conquest of Elysium

As said before, Conquest of Elysium. Dominions too, since you're basically a pretender god with a nation of worshippers and power level off the charts. CoE is alright and smaller scale. Dominions is fantastic. Great variety, great sense of world-shattering power, fun builds. Unfortunately, the AI is absolutely dogshit so I hope you like magical Risk PBEM like we're back in the stone age.
There's Honey I Joined A Cult, which is apparently some sort of indie Rimworld/management game about leading a for-profit cult with a comedy tone. Haven't tried it so you won't get anything from me beyond the title. Not exactly conquest though.
Out of more obscure games, there was a janky indie called Cults and Daggers where you spread a religious cult in the mediterranean and battled other cults for supremacy. All I remember about it is that it was frankly pretty boring.
If you want to go truly evil played 100% straight, there's Shadows of Forbidden Gods. You're basically an eldritch horror trying to bring about the apocalypse, using pawns to set up your return and prevent the possibility of humanity launching any successful opposition. The game is agent driven (both on your and enemy side), so there's potential for some stories and it's fun to frick with the AI's decision making. It's also very satisfying to see the world blow up. Of course it comes with the full indie TBS package, that is, it's absolutely fricking butt ugly with zero art budget and artistic sensibility, it could use more content (especially randoms events start repeating fast) and the UI design is basically a cautionary tale. There's decent god variety though and they all play somewhat differently - eg. there's a world devouring snek that just goes around and munches everything up, not!King in Yellow who drives rulers insane via planting a cursed book or a sapient plant that fricks up kingdoms with plague and famine only to tempt people into consuming its healing and satiating fruit (killswitch included).

Do I play the first COE or the most recent one?

Was wondering if someone was going to mention that. Funny thing is that it's by Rod Humble, former Sims 2 producer who's now at Paradox making their Sims competitor.

Using this thread to ask if there are games where you have to manage your troops to contain situations like alien invasions, crazy scientists frickups and the like, something like cepheus protocol but not limited to zombies basically.

You don't really manage that big of a cult tho, even on repeat playthroughs after getting through your first threshold you don't get that many people. I think like 20 is the most you can have and it's a b***h to manage them.
Rimworld suffers from a similar issue.
What I think people would want is something like Liberal crime Squad but for cults.

That's not strategy game, more of a RPG. And you are not leading the cult into victory, but using it for your personal ascencion.
