Nah, Poison/Water with an ability that boosts its attack stat when it's asleep while not giving it the downsides of sleep. Like guts but the boost is higher because the conditions are harder to ensure and keep going.
They're also sometimes called "sleeper sharks", because they move so slowly. Greenland sharks are cool as frick.
We don't know their max lifespan because we're pretty sure its way beyond the human lifespan. We've found some we're pretty sure are like 600 yeas old and we've more or less confirmed that they don't even reach adulthood until they're around 150 years. They're god damn sea elves.
God, now I can't stop thinking about this. High Attack, low speed, middling Defense, Sp. Defense, and HP. Dump Sp. Attack. Water/poison. Ability: Half-Asleep - Greatly Boosts Attack while sleeping. Is not affected negatively by sleep. (100% Attack boost while sleeping, no negative sleep effects.)
It would mean you'd have to waste a turn on Rest, but once you were asleep you'd get an average of three turns with a free massive boost to attack.
My only recollection of these guys is that they’re victims to a parasite that attacks their eyes. That’s why you sometimes see a white “string” around their eyelids.
>we've more or less confirmed that they don't even reach adulthood until they're around 150 years
What do you mean by "adulthood?" If it means sexual maturity then there's no way that's true.
Lol. Is that ability a reference to the fact it swims at like 2 miles/year yet somehow manages to eat polar bears and large fish it could never catch up to?
>we've more or less confirmed that they don't even reach adulthood until they're around 150 years

It is true, they're exceptionally long lived, anywhere from 370 to 500 years old.
>they're exceptionally long lived
Sure, but are you really telling me they can't reproduce until they're 150 years old? They must have a mortality rate near zero.
would be cool to have this as a slow bulky attacker with an ability to stupid amounts of dmg or fix it's speed to balance out the whole "bulky ice type" stima
A Greenland Sleeper Shark would be a rad idea, especially since it even has some of that folklore stuff a lot of Pokemon have. What about something like this?
Skalugsuak (the first Greenland Shark from myth)
The Dreaming Pokemon
Type: Water/Poison; HA: Dreamer (Gains a third Psychic typing)
Ability: Comatose
"It lives in a constant state of torpor, drifting through the sea. If a piece of them is cut off, it will still continue to function for up to three days afterwards."
"It hunts by detecting dreams, and will subconsciously float towards the nearest source. Once it hones in on it's prey, it creates a powerful suction from which there's no escape."
Signature Move: Sleeper Snack: Water, Physical, BP: 95, BA: 100%, PP: 5 (8)
"Opening their maw, the user creates a suction to draw in their opponent before clamping down their jaws on the following turn. This attack's power is doubled if the enemy is asleep." >Combo with Yawn >Two-Turn move >On the first turn, the message '(Enemy's Pokemon) is being pulled in!' is displayed. The opponent is trapped and cannot switch, and takes 1/12 of their HP as chip damage similar to Whirlpool. Escape Moves that rely on movement (U-Turn, Volt Switch, Flip Turn, etc) will fail, but moves that do not (Roar, Teleport, etc) will still succeed. >On the second turn, the move will execute and deal full damage, and the opponent will no longer be trapped. If the opponent is asleep, they will take double damage. >If the Power Herb is used, the attack will 'pull in' the enemy before immediately dealing the damage; the opponent will not take the chip damage from the first turn. >This is based on how they hunt, as Greenland Sharks actually do create a suction to pull prey in by opening their buccal cavities.
I'd also imagine this thing learning Yawn and a lot of Psychic Moves like Psychic Fangs, Dream Eater, Trick Room, and Hypnosis.
Also, adding onto this, I gave it the Hidden Ability of 'Dreamer' since it felt appropriate for flavor purposes; honestly a Greenland Shark could work really well as the inspiration for a Psychic type and for a Pokemon that's constantly sleeping and has hidden psychic abilities, the 'special' ones would be the ones that have fed their powers enough that their pleasant dreams allow them to fully awaken those powers. It would also change how it plays a bit defensively, since it loses the weakness to Psychic but gains weaknesses to Ghost and Dark.
What is that shark?
megalodon
>megalodon
Bro shut the frick up thats a greenland shark, how did the ice/poison not tip you off at least?

Could have a regional tynamo that pairs with this mon a la Mantine

Yes

It sounds crazy but yes.
all shark furries are either pedos or granny lovers. No middle ground
What the frick
They are apex predators where they live. They’re extremely slow, but are ambush predators that eat sleeping prey. Greenland sharks are just successful
>They are apex predators where they live
Yeah, but so are we and we reach sexual maturity after about 13 years.
It's so odd that they haven't done such an obvious typing yet.
Dunno why but images like that or about the depths truly scares the shit out of me, i can't look at them lol
It should have an ability referencing the fact that most of them are blind.
Hustle
oblivious perhaps

he would just have a massive HP stat and nothing else, like Waillord.
something something trick room

I think it should evolve from its juvenile form by learning Ancient Power, to reflect how old the adults are.
if I lived 250 years I could finish my romhack.
>Ice/Poison type that has an ability that deals extra damage to sleeping pokémon
looks garbo
how would you use it
hope it learns curse, stick it in a trick room team and hope for the best
If it's a more than one stage pokemon I assume it probably wouldn't evolve until at least level 90
It evolves after 150 years.
The only way to obtain it is using a time-travel mechanic where you leave it in the past and come get it 150 years later.
