I don't think Nintendo would do anything other than just re-release them and Xenogears needs a full on remake more than most games.

I can see Xenosaga happening, Xenogears not so much.

i think gears would be an easier task
saga was already downsized a frickton, the original scope was 6 games or so, plus each has its own visual style
gears isjust, you know, finish the fricking game already
though i'm thinking big here. full blown, balls deep remakes
they could very well frick off with just ports, just leave them where they are, thank you very much

i'd play a xenogears re-release if they actually finished disc 2 and got rid of that evangelion shit at the end

      Anonymous

I would refuse to buy Gears or Saga if anyone tried to "fix" anything about the narrative. Modern developers going back and trying to fix old games is the biggest lark of the industry, Xenogears doesn't need fixing, Disc 2 is unironically the thing that cemented it into gaming history.

        Anonymous

Disc 2 has dogshit pacing due to it being back to back slideshows into bosses for most of the duration
And its not what the devs envisioned for it either, if they had the time it would've been so much better

The entire game was Evangelion but as a JRPG.

I can see Saga getting a Collection release on all major platforms (including Switch of course). Actually expecting this to happen before a potential XbcX2 being teased on the next nintendo hardware, a couple years from now.
Gears might be stuck in limbo eternally, unless SE is cool porting it still unfinished. SE greed is going to keep it not happening.
Both would never be Nintendo exclusive though btw.

I don’t understand why companies like Nintendo, Sony or Xbox don’t just ask publishers who hold ips that they’re doing nothing with if they can just buy it off them? Like why didn’t Sony buy Tomb Raider or Deus Ex instead of Embracer?

Dead series are better than ones that have spent themselves and are just shuffling zombies anyway.

Also, holding off can equal more gratification when it does happen.

I WISH I could wait 6 or 20 years between main series Pokémon releases instead of being forced to never play again because they refuse to stop rushing out trash with less content again and again and again.

      Anonymous

Xenosaga was not a profitable series.
Namco fricked up. First, they didn't release XS1 here on this old continent, and then they expected they will sell XS2. It sold poorly. Then the 3rd game was rushed.
There is Xenosaga I & II on NDS but it's Japan-only and I know almost nothign about it. I would assume some scenes were expanded and some were cut.

Buying dead IPs and reviving them is a double edged sword. People will never be satisfied. If you release the game as it was, people will attack you because you are trying to sell the exact same game. If you remake it, they will say you removed ''soul'' (whatever that means). If you do some good shit like SE with their recent SaGa remasters - when they polished graphics AND allow you to choose between original experience (game) or with added content - people will ignore it. You can't win.

Saga desperately needs to be released as is because there's no other way to buy it, it's currently lost media to anyone that wants to own it.

LMAO Nintendo 100% funded 2 and 3. Those games are as much Nintendo's as they are segas. So bad example

      Anonymous

Bayonetta is Sega's IP, but Sega lets Platinum Games make games for said IP and let's Nintendo publish them. But Sega doesn't fund the games. If Bamco/SE let Nintendo fund/develop/publish the games, that would be the same situation.

        >Bayonetta is Sega's IP. Bayonetta 1 is Sega's game. Bayonetta 2, Bayonetta 3, and Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon are Nintendo's games. Sega lets Nintendo make games for said IP because Nintendo liscenced and funded the games with the exception of Bayonetta 1. Platinum Games are the developpers but Nintendo are the copyright holders of Bayonetta 2, Bayonetta 3, and Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. If Nintendo liscenced and funded the HD Remasters and/or remake from Bamco/SE, that would be the same as they would become Nintendo's game despite Bamco/SE owning the IPs.

yes, that's what I said. "Bayonetta is SEGA's IP." It doesn't change from the fact that Bayonetta 2, Bayonetta 3, and Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon are Nintendo's games as they licensed and funded the games. But Sega still owns the IP as a whole, hence why Bayonetta 1 gets ported everywhere but not the other games because they would need Nintendo's approval since these 3 other games are Nintendo's. It's pretty simple, anon.

They're basically shopping their games around to different publishers and relying on publisher charity, because the games don't have a large enough audience for their budget. That is the contention anyway. Which is why they had to make Babylon's fall. And no idea how they are going to survive after that.

              Anonymous

That doesn't say those other games are Nintendo's. It says the IP is Sega's and Nintendo funded and published those games. The IP covers anything with Bayo's name on it. Nintendo doesn't own those games. They funded and published them, which would mean if Sega decided to pull some shit with the IP they'd be furious, but Sega owns the IP. Those games aren't Nintendo's.

                Anonymous

Trademark isnt copyright though. Sega may have the trademark on "Bayonetta" but its possible Nintendo has joint ownership of the copyright on Bayo2-3 with Sega

                Anonymous

Yea, so, there seems to be some question as to what's going on with the games Nintendo published. But the IP hasn't changed hands as far as public records show. The assumption should be Sega still holds all rights. Whatever else is going on, it's good enough for both sides to continue working together on it.

                Anonymous

Alright, it seems that you get it now so I don't have to type a paragraph about Bayonetta's weird but no so complicated ownership status but yeah. The IP probably won't ever change hands since SEGA can just get paid to license out to Nintendo and collect their share of the pie without having to spend a dime.

Xenogears will get a remaster at some point. In an interview about the radical dreamers edition of chrono cross, they mentioned that the impetus for making it was that they didn't like the game not being available on like anything past the ps3. That applied to XG as well.
Also Mitsuda commented that he was surprised that he got called in for music stuff for a CC remaster before an XG one.
Expect it to be barebones though, if we're being honest.
