BDSP is Generation IV with Fairy typing converted to unity. It's super easy to mod and there's already several National Dex and Platinum restoration mods being made.

because they turned unity into essentially a DS-romhack-tier engine kek the game's already been made into renegade platinum but better.
along with mods like true scale, you get all the pokemon that's ever existed up to the latest (for me its gen 5) as followers like in HG/SS too. shit rocks.
Modders have made insane progress on reverse engineering that game in particular to turn it into the ultimate bedrock to build 3D pokemon romhacks with. They're also in the process of de-compiling the game to increase the potential scope for modding even further. Just from the current state of de-compiling alone they've been able to fix just about every single issue the vanilla games had as well as implement QoL, as well as add literally every single pokemon ever, including gen 9. (The not-Regengade Platnium team actually just released the Tinkaton line into the game recently for some screenshot contest winner, and are working on a new romhack for the game that will include full nat dex.)
Vanilla BDSP is a piece of shit, but it has become an absolute breakthrough in pokemon romhacking potential, it's really worth the time to see what modders have been cooking with it.
It's a shame DS and 3DS modding was too difficult. I really wanted a Pokemon Z romhack, or a HGSS romhack that expanded Johto.
I'm just happy BDSP turned into a reverse monkey paw. The original games were easily some of the worst shit ever put out in the main franchise, but just seeing what a Unity-built mainline pokemon game has given to modders to turn those titles into what will end up being the greatest modding platform the community could have asked for was honestly worth it.
Why are they doing it with these and not sword and shield? Is the "proper" 3D engine just that bad?
It's basically a unity pc game. It's laughably easy to mod compared to any other pokemon game.

I think if they actually give it to competent developers who care, it could work. Just not ILCA. Of all the people in the world who like Pokemon and would love to work on a Pokemon game, there's got to be some studio somewhere that could make a good remake of some of the most beloved Pokemon games, PROVIDED THEY LET THEM.
Gen 5 had by far the best trading in the entire series, and it has been steadily downhill since. If they copied 1:1 BW’s online system into ScVi, the game would be objectively better.
