People who write good interesting characters that are humans soon realize that all the non-humans are just shitty writers trying to use quirks in place of actual content to make character interesting. If you can't write a good human character, you can't write a good character period. If you can write a good human character, you have no real reason to bother with non-humans.
There is never "no point" to writing things a certan way. If you wanna tell a story about ayys being invaded by Humans, or feral cats around a lake doing some good old tribal warfare, or a robot fighting for everlasting peace, then that's point enough to do it.

Human characters give us the strongest thing to identify with. That's why 99% of all our stories are about humans. Humans are the default and for good reason. Calling that "dull" and wanting to "subvert" it just to be different makes it pretty clear you are either a self-hating misanthrope or have no other options for making your already dull characters interesting.
