It's fun. I enjoyed 2 playthroughs, but got bored early in my third. My first playthrough I think I did at about the pace the devs intended and didn't overlevel too much or anything. So the first playthrough was quite challenging and was a good gaming experience.
I know it's ubishit, but I really enjoyed Ghost Recon Wildlands (the Bolivia one, not Breakpoint).

It's one of the weakest Fromsoft games and still the best game in years. The last game I enjoyed at all before ER was Nioh 2
this is the problem. it's not a good souls game, it's worse than the rest except for maybe ds2, depends on your mood that day. right now i'd rather play ds2 than ER, even if i skipped all the side content.
it's not that the game is terrible, they did a lot of good stuff with what they were able to develop with such a ridiculously massive scope. the current state of videogames is just so fricking bad that a passable souls game is leagues better than anything else on offer.
i've basically retired this hobby, i play 3-4 games a year for maybe 100 hours total, nothing exciting is on the horizon and i suspect there won't be anything as good as ds1 ever again. viewed from that angle, elden ring is the most disappointing comparitively excellent game of all time.

ER is mostly popular because you can just summon mimic or black knife tiche, plus any available npcs and first try every boss. It's not intended for people who want a concrete, carefully designed challenge.

i'd love MMO dark souls but they'd probably do something dumb like turn PVP on permanently while your playing and make you lose items on death.

It should work pretty much like it does in the other games where pvp is structured around covenants. Reds are on the enemies side, they can kill anyone and everyone can kill reds. Blues get sent after them if they attack someone, grays and yellows are buddies etc.
You would probably not lose anything but your souls on death, souls would obviously be used as currency and exp to level up.

I've been craving a Dark Souls MMO forever but I doubt From would be able to pull it off. Networking isn't their strong suit and action-MMOs are the most demanding games in existence.
