The beginning is the most dogshit part though. Looks like SM is safe.
Damn, really? It might be pretty good then. Obviously too much talking and cutscenes, it's like a visual novel so far. a frickton of cutscenes and dialogue, kind of like they went the same route as zelda did when it went 3d with more cutscenes/dialogue. All the fade outs and weird lack of sound effects during cutscenes feels pretty cheap though. At least it doesn't seem as pussified as x and y so far, but it's probably still easy as frick. They already healed me once and the rival chooses the pokemon that's frickin weak to you and you fight a bunch of literal preschoolers. Then I had to go to the professor's house and talk some more. Had to stop playing to do other stuff though. It already seems like this game has noticeably more effort put into it and I like how the camera moves around in battle like pokemon stadium.
Yeah, you can really tell which game was the "oh god we need to make the jump to 3D, oh god we re-wrote the plot to X/Y uhhh let's fix it in Z version (whoops!)"
Sun/Moon miss out on the ULTRA CHANGES which are pretty lame in general aside from nostalgia hour Rainbow Rocket episode in the post-game. No overly talkative Rotom-dex in S/M either which thank god
The first island is called Tutorial Island for a reason. But once you live that place it's cool. The are still cutscenes because the game is really focused on the story, but at least the tutorials stop and the plot and characters are thee bets in the series along with Gen 5. Base SM are pretty easy, that's true. But then Ultra SM are probably the hardest core games.
Sword/Shield are the ones that need a definitive review. They're more shit than XY kek.

From the Types, select only Fire-Poison-Steel. Do you see how many of them are there?
I guess Delphox as your starter, Venusaur the Kanto starter, Lucario is also a gift pokemon though she doesn't resist Fairy but it does have steel moves. Aegislash is busted so that's a must. Crobat or Talonflame if you want a Flying type. Tentacruel if you want a Water type. Magnezone is always solid. Nidoking/Nidoqueen if you need a Ground type. You got a lot of options.

Yeah, Aggron sucks. Put Aegislash. It solos the entire game. The rest are all good pokemon. Obviously there's a big weakness to Ground but all Fairy resists are weak to it so you just have to deal with it. You can also try Talonflame since you catch it very early on.

It has incredible variety but all the mons from the previous generations completely overshadow the new ones that weren't even that many to begin with. I thought I was playing a romhack where they try to include as many pokemon as possible and they stuff every route with 10 different pokemon and the new ones felt like fakemons.

they could have at least included alternate encounter methods instead of shoving a dozen pokemon into regular grass tiles
The entire dex has either a brand new type combination and/or unique ability with the exception of three lines (4 if you count Vivillion). They can't be overshadowed when they offer completely new things to older Pokémon
Yeah man but they're not showcased at all. Hoenn had a regional dex of 200, ~130 being new pokemon and only 70 being returning mons from past gens. And everyone from random trainers to Gym Leaders were using mostly the new pokemon. Unova had only new pokemon.
In XY you have a dex of ~450 and only 60 of them are new. The trainers have 1 new pokemon at most. The Kalos pokemon became guest stars in their own game. It's even worse if you're doing a nuzlocke, since in each route there are 9 older pokemon and 1 new. You will barely get to use any of the new.
Being a guest star implies that you are treated as lesser. Being given your own unique tools that no other Pokémon has is the opposite of that. If you need to push away older Pokémon to prop up a dex, it just means that you're not confident in their designs and don't think they can stand on their own merits
You make it sound like the Kalos mons managed to stand out from the old despite being outnumbered. Except they didn't. That's why that dex is so forgettable. The only pokemon anyone remembered from that gen is Talonflame which is the best regional bird, Sylveon for being a troony eeveelution and Aegislash if you're into competitive.

You know how some games start with a bang and get boring while others are lame but get good by the end, well SS is a game that starts lame and ends lame
They have one of the biggest nonsense legendary out of nowhere plots with a song that uses fricking wolfs as instruments and it still manages to stay lame, it's a fricking travesty
The DLC is decent as in the concept of the wild area actually works here, you get either an E-thot or a Kevin as your rival trying to get access to a gay bear, also a Kanto starter ,you win your gay bear, travel around the island to evolve your gay bear and have a couple of good fights in the end
The second DLC is just a bunch of busywork for legendaries but the areas to explore are even better than the first DLC, the side missions are more enjoyable than the main ones though
It's not a great game, the DLC is the only part that feels like a Pokemon game, as a final note the chanting in the stadiums is stupid and I hate that they keep that nonsense going forward
