good to know. should i just push on? i think i wasted too much time doing money only sidequests when you dont need that much money, ive got over 1 million now. Shoulda just done the exp and gem ones. Threads on gamefaqs said they were 40 hours in at prison island when i was at 75

            Anonymous

I'd say finish it. For sidequests, honestly I wouldn't bother. The game has good sidequests but they're tied to the affinity system and basically require you to talk to specific npcs so they'll propagate and advance which requires a stupid amount of back and forth or a guide, the other sidequests that you don't get in this way are utterly worthless filler quests, they're not the real sidequests. The only must do sidequests are the two that unlock Monado Arts, one in some ruins in nopon forest on the way to the mountain and one in the upcoming village after sword valley by the entrance of said village, and they're not tied to the affinity system thank God.

This is abject bullshit, even if you personally don't like the game, 2 is absolutely miserable when it comes to story structure, the first half of the game is entirely made up of filler, everything in between the prologue and Indol may as well not even happen considering it has absolutely no bearing on the main plot or any influence on the ending.

The Xeno franchise is anime 2001 A Space Odyssey. It has really stellar cutscene direction, much better than any other anime game. Combat is pretty vad in 1, promising in 2 but held back by sheer opaqueness of its systems, and actually pretty good in 3. But the real selling point of the franchise is that the world design is extremely well done with lots of complex vertical worlds with very strong world building elements.

Combat in general is you having a set amount of arts available (either a palette which you scroll through in XC1 or mapped to the face buttons in XC2 and XC3), which all have specific cooldowns after use (based on time in XC1, based on auto-attacks in XC2 and a mix of both in XC3).
Auto-attacks are just the filler in between using the arts, they aren't really meant to be an actual source of damage outside of very specific builds with specific characters. Like 99% of your damage is based on arts.
Using arts in certain orders can trigger cobmos which is where most of the fun of the combat comes in. An art can "break" an opponent which leaves them vulnerable to then be toppled, preventing them from doing anything for a few seconds. Then you can launch them into the air and smash them back down for big damage.
There's other stuff specific to each game but that's in general how it works across all games.

It's very different because the bakka ecchi bath scene in anime games, while juvenile, appeals to a general human experience, young men who like pretty women, modest women who feel embarassed by being seen naked.
That shit is almost beastiality, depraved and disgusting, involving ugly creatures having sex in a public place.

The games have really good stories, imo 1 shines on its plot and worldbuilding, it constantly has mysteries that are woven together, explained well and pay off, especially towards the latter third. 3 has the best cast of characters in my opinion, the game is more about character than plot but the allegory and metaphors are really something.
2 I'll throw a wrench in. Its my least favourite by far because it is generic anime. 1 and 3 absolutely have anime inspirations but 2 can be so over the top, direct and unironically cringe that it hurts. However, its still really good, even if far more basic than the others. Honestly I believe they brainleted 2 a lot to get more people into the series.

All 3 games have great worlds, music, villains, lore and characters. Its really worth it in my opinion. The hardest part to get to grips with is the gameplay but its not too egregious. Just do sidequests and you're more than good to beat everything.

Storytelling devices mean jackshit when you attach them to a trash story. All the symbolism can't make 3's plot not garbage that was shat out for the purpose of fast-laning Perfect Works rather than actually adding anything to 1/2

To be perfectly honest, I'm starting to think you clowns have no idea what a good story even means, you just toss bad story out when you don't want to engage in a game. XBC3 has a good story, it's focused on characters but the whole world takes place in humanity's ark within collective unconsciousness so that's exactly where it should be.

It's not even the first Xenoblade to do Noah's Ark you fart-huffing hack. And at least that one had the balls to be a 'hard choices have to be made' type ending rather 3's garbage which is effectively the shitty Samurai Jack ending but with a Magical Soul Machine that ensures the future people will exist in the new world.

It's good, not awesome or anything but it is worth your time, especially if you like SMT, its version of Press Turn is really fun and in general it feels a lot like an old school Persona game without all the shitty slice of life filler.

          Anonymous

The censorship is bullshit but the story is actually pretty good.
It's basically what SMT would be if it didn't have goyslop pandering like persona or SMT itself.

I played SMT 2, 3 and 5. But I never played any FE game.
Will there be any problems with characters and plot?

            Anonymous

No, the game is 99% SMT, the only elements of Fire Emblem it retains are the weapon circle (Like SMT elemental roshambo but with swords, lances and axes) and some "personas" (The game calls them mirages) have the appearance and names of FE characters but they're completely different and their stories from FE don't factor into the plot.

            Anonymous

If you ever become interested in FE I'd recommend you start out with Engage, it's very newbie friendly, only play Three Houses if you don't mind social sim aspects on the level of Persona.

I honestly didn't mind the censorship that much since it's mostly limited to the gravure modelling chapter so it actually makes the game less embarassing to play, the central idea of the chapter is still the same.
And is it me or is the censorship really fricking inconsistent? I mean, the swimsuit is still in the game and you can see it in the Amrita Shower move and the tv ads, and none of Kyria's outfits got censored, it's weird how it all seems limited to half of Tsubasa's wardrobe.

SMT5 was easy for me but I guess Octopath Traveler 2 was similar(in terms of difficulty) and quiet good.
Chained Echoes is also good choice, combat is good and while dialogues are sometimes subpar the entire plot is interesting enough to get you going.
People also praise Sea of Stars but I would say that it is most lackluster one from the games I listed, combat doesn't really evolve and becomes stale after a while(characters have 4 skills like in some moba), you can swap characters on the fly when you get more than free and there are some combo attacks but it doesn't really add that much and story is worse than OT2 and CE.
You can also play some old HD ports if you still didn't play games like Final Fantasy 10, Trials of Mana or recently released Star Ocean the second story R(which is pretty good if you are not offended by graphic choices)

don't even try garbage from this post, one of the few games I actually dropped. Premise was okay but execution is boring as frick slugfest

You could feel cucked if you are moron that self insert it actually is like At the start of the game you travel with your mentor/friend to help your nation, later in the game you split because he is the kind of person who will "do whatever it takes" while main character is kind of a good guy. This companions usurp the god like power but can't contain it nor use it how he wanted but the main hero can use it normally in his own body. During the last fight they both have out of body experience and main hero doesn't see himself being able to live immortal life to fix the world so they swap places and they never tell this to anyone so the main hero essentially dies while the mentor/rival lives on despite his wrong doings and people got mad.

There is a little connection with 2 but don’t google it if you didn’t play 2 yet.
I guess you should play it instead of watching if you like Melia.

Good recommendation, but you are in a wrong thread. OP is baiting and this isn't the first time.
      >"Recommend me a RPG for Switch."
      >"No, not that one!"
      >few posts later other anon appears and starts talking about Baldur's Gate for no reason
      Every time.

Sucks. I was also looking for RPGs specifically on Switch after beating SMRPG.

Just finished XB2. All in all he was a pretty based villain. No sob story, no moral ambiguity, no turncloaking, no last minute asspulls. He was just an butthole from start to finish. I miss straight forward villains like this. Way better than the big bad from XB1.

Who are you talking about? All three of XBC2's main villains are morally ambiguous and all three of them have a sob story and 500 years of depression. You know who wasn't morally ambiguous? Zanza the pure evil demiurge

Zanza belonged in the trash as soon it's revealed he looks exactly like Shulk for no reason.
Also, what kind of weakass villain name is "Zanza" anyway? Sounds like a comic relief Nopon character.

Malos kinda gets to have a sob story, but its more of a sympathetic one that is sad if you think about it. He himself has come to terms with it and just does what he does. At the end of the day hes more of a force of nature or aspect of humanity than his own person. He knows he cant change so he simply does whatever he can to follow his "programming" and is happy to just let the cards fall as they may. Win or Lose, he will go down doing what he loves.

Anon, he literally can change. When he talks to Klaus and asks him if it was just programming, just Amalthus making him the way he is or if he had free will, and Klaus told him it was always both. This is what breaks him, he is responsible for his own actions, he ruined his only friend's life.

      Don't play XC3, you'll definitely hate N.

it has a demo that lets you see one if its biggest potential draw backs, really long cutscenes
but its truly a fun game, and you can carry your save over

How does anyone have time to play this series anyway? Getting through the series at this point seems like an impossible endeavor

It's really not hard to find the time if you really want to.
I have a full time job and still managed to play almost 200 hours of XC3 the month it came out since I was really looking forward to it.

It's 3 RPGs that have been released years apart from one another. You can knock each one out in a month or two.

I took vacation for XC3 specifically and spent two weeks to 100% it.

NTA but if V filters people for having sparse story EO is on another level of not having a story.

Thanks to game pass (yes, I play my RPGs on 3 consoles) I tried Chained Echoes (10 hours) and Sea of Stars (20 hours). Dropped both. I can honestly say that I'm glad I tried them, to confirm how bad they are.
