Definitely an MMORPG of some kind because you'll need a constant stream of time-sink content. Probably an older MMO, as well. They just don't make them like they used to. There's like 6 years of my life between 1996-2002 that I honestly can't remember a damn thing about because I was playing Everquest the whole time. It's like my life was on pause.
Just find any private server, most semi-popular MMORPGs you'd be interested in have some you can play for free

It's a BR so it's automatically dogshit in my eyes. BRs all flavour of the month games with nothing to offer in the long-run
Zero Build mode was made for boomers like us. I'm not going to try and convince you to play, just saying that's what got me in the game.
I have it a go but it still has the same problems that all BRs do: the losers hide in obscure spots in the map and avoid every fight just so that they're the last ones alive instead of actually engaging with anybody else. More than half of my time spent playing BRs consists of running around just to find another person. The playerbase of fortnite is also filled with kids so there isn't any real challenge involved like 90% of the time

Free trial with XIV gets you about 3 Jrpgs worth of content free. And can go in perpetuity with all the side content you can do.
Fortnite is always refreshing itself with new content and has an active map making community. New season starts tomorrow.
TF2 is a classic drop in drop out content that's always been fun. Especially since they got rid of the bot issues.
