Red is a weak as frick trainer in GSC/HGSS
They gave him a team full of weaklings because MUH STORY

If they truly cared about making Red as monumental as people make him out to be, he should've had Mewtwo in his team. Frick, the game even implies he went to Cerulean Cave and fought the bastard considering it collapsed and closed off in GSC.
But he isn't monumental, he's supposed to be a victory lap, a final hoorah for the player who had bested Johto, the Indigo League, and even went to Kanto just to flex further.

gen 2 is where pokemon designs peaked but i'd miss games from Ruby and Sapphire to USUM
