      https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/developer-diary/anniversary-maintenance-patch-2-0-4-open-beta.1579605/

      It's mostly bugfixing but the most important change is the tag limit increasing from 2048 to 8192 so playing with mods like Extended Timeline or Terra-Indomita doesn't turn your save into a time bomb.

      • 1 year ago
        Anonymous

        Pretty significant bug fixes, though. Tag fix also lets you turn off the cucked revolt-rules. Vanilla has game settings to lower the frequency of revolts, which is necessary because revolts create new tags. Now you can turn that off without hitting tag limit too soon. The levy comp fix was pretty good, too.

      Political influence is still mana.
      It sucks that despite having 100000000000 gold, I can't build new cities because it costs 100 political influence, and with my shit king, it takes five years to save up political influence to be able to build a city.

      I get that political influence is supposed to represent administrative limits, but it just constrained. Realistically, with enough money you can make anything.
      EU3 did this better with agents, you had architects, and each building project needed an architect to supervise, so you were usually limited 2 on-going building projects, as contrast to doing nothing and waiting for mana to tick up.

    Looking for some advices, I think this thread is good as any other.

    Any suggestion for techs etc. when you start a game? Especially as a tribal near Rome.
    In my last game I managed to survive as Siculs and broke everybody ass getting a gigantic fleet, so I've invested quite a lot in the navy tech tree, but I feel like it was the suboptimal choice. Also I'm a moron so I unlocked foundries in the last 50 years of game, I guess it wasn't really efficient although I managed to get to lv. 22 in all techs and was 100 years ahead tech-wise.

    • 1 year ago
      Anonymous

      It depends on who you're playing and what you're going for. For instance, If you're playing a diadochi and trying to reunite Aexander's empire in 1-2 generations, I'd recommend putting all 8 starting tech points into religion to get the religious conversion law to start hellenizing everything (which is important for slowing and then reventing rebellions which is inevitable if you Alexander's Legacy war everyone at the start). If you're Syracuse I'd probably suggest putting quite a few points into military first for discipline buffs. Also keep in mind that points are universal so any time you put a lot of points into 1 tree you can always stop and focus on another

      Overall though, I'd say there's 2 mandatory techs in the game, with everything else being either highly recommended or optional, and depends on your playstyle and the run itsel. The 2 techs are:

      Cohorts - legions in any region is incredibly powerful and massively increases force projection

      Urban planning - especially great if you're a large nation, and gives you so much more flexibility. You can make a 5-port city much more easily, put a temple and theater in every city, 2 extra forts for a border town, etc.

      Special mention to Formulaic Worship - free religious conversion, which is great as long as you're anywhere with multiple religions around and is especially great if you're a diadochi or are conquering a lot of places. If you're a monarchy it's even better since you can also get proscribed canon too which lets you choose either more free conversion or free assimilation.

    They still haven't fixed Arrheon's awful shit:

    on_rebellion_in_country = { #root scope parent country
    effect = {
    if = {
    limit = {
    is_ai = yes #There are numerous tools to offset rebellions, all of which are situational - the AI will never be able to manage these with the same ability as a human player, so we reduce the frequency of revolts to balance.
    }
    every_country_state = {
    capital_scope = {
    add_state_loyalty = 30
    }
    }
    }
    }
    }

    That means every time AI encounters a rebellion, all their provinces actually gain loyalty... One of the few things I enjoyed before V2 was how AI blobs could collapse internally unlike in other PDX games, I guess Arrheon saw it as an issue.

    • 1 year ago
      Anonymous

      AI is not the player and should not be treated the same. A way to deal with rebels in V2 is simple - pass reforms and don't get war exhaustion. Way to deal with revolts in Imperator is much more multi-layered and this allows AI to keep pace with the player, rather then mechanics being gutted so AI can handle then.

      • 1 year ago

        Looks like shitty devs are itt. AI should be capable of playing the game

      You can go straight into the game files and remove that. That was necessary with the old tag limit, otherwise the game would hit tag limit before the end of game and crash.

          It had 30,000 players on launch, but it was considered bad for various reasons. There was a consensus it is just EU4 mod... Though PDX spend two years reworking half the mechanics, it didn't improve the player numbers.

          Victoria has the brand recognition from the previous game being memed as some super complex big brained strategy game among nuparadoxgays who've never actually played it, or only played it briefly and were intimidated by it.
          Imperator is the spiritual sequel to a old game no one's heard of that was an unsuccessful spin off of a game that was superseded by an (inferior) sequel before most current paradox players started playing paradox games. Imperator was beautiful on launch, but it was Clausewitz Engine: The Game. Raise army, march it across onto a new tile and accept surrender at the end of the war. Click mana to change the population to your ethnic group, rinse and repeat. The gameplay loop was ridiculously simple and uninteresting.

            Because Johan wanted it. Half the mechanics of Imperator were Johan's ideas for EU4 (including the pop system) that weren't implement. I suppose the idea was to make it EU4.5, which explains why it's more like EU4 than CK2. PDX has a history of doing these kinda beta-tests and then abandoning them (e.g. Sengoku was beta for CK2), EU5 is going to be like Imperator, thought its bad reception it likely got delayed.

              Yeah, imperator totally ruined eu4 for me. I mean, all the DLC and bloat ruined it for me, but I always rolled back to 1.19 and had fun. Does Imperator have the best supply system?

    >territories are grouped into areas
    >each territory contributes food to area's food storage
    >when an army enters the area, they start consuming the food
    >when the food runs out the pops of the area begin to starve and the army resorts to eating own supplies

    It has actually environmental effect and the food just doesn't come out of nowhere.

    Contrast CK3 and EU4's supply limit where you will take attrition if army's size is below province's supply limit.

    • 1 year ago

      it's pretty good but you should have actual supply lines rather than having donkey units

      • 1 year ago

        wrong, we should have not abstract supply lines but automated donkey units: they should spawn in safe provinces and automatically move back and forth between armies and cities to create another dimension to warfare in form of raiding supply and capturing donkeys

          You've just described abstract supply lines but implemented in the most roundabout way possible. If you're not one already, don't ever become a modder.

        you could cycle them in and out, but pretty much will never need to realistically

      I like the Seleukids because you can fight both the Mauryans and other diadochi at the same time, plus sometime 50ish years after the game starts you have to start fghting the Parthians who assassinate your rulers and gives big penalties for 10 years. All that, while also being able to reform Alexander's empire.

    this game is the worst paradox game by the UI alone. Whoever picked bright & white background colors for the ui should be shot in face

      I love the color scheme, it's pure SOVL. All modern games go for the epic dark semitransparent readable theme, and while functional, it's all the same and completely soulles. What we got for Imperator at least has some unique charm to it, it's brave wnough to try to evoke some tones using it's UI. We'll never again get a UI as based as the old RTW UI was.

      white background is the best for reading, turn on the light and stop playing games in dark room

    Why did Arrheon make ports constructible?
    Completely misses the point of Johan's design of giving specific territories value by limiting territories where you can construct fleets.

    Are any of the dlcs important at all?

      Not really, there's only a few minor mechanics actually paywalled behind dlc (ruler deification, legion distinctions and great wonder creator), and after that it's mainly flavor. Granted, some of the mission trees are actually pretty fun, such as the Seleukid mission tree where you can pay for Greek migrants to settle in Syria, or the Argead reunification mission where you can permanently buff Alexandria on Egypt by collecting Alexander's panoply and putting it in the Alexander temple there.
