Introduce me to CRPGs

I tried playing Divine Divinity and the underground quest was way too big and overwhelming for me?
What do you suggest as starting point to ease me into the genre and are there any tips?

I also tried Wasteland 2 but hated the combat and 4 men party with tons of friendly fire and misses early on

Sounds like you only played for 5 minutes because you can find a 5th party member before even leaving the starting area.

Most of the old ones are RTWP. If you want boomer ones play Fallout 1 and 2. If you want modern go for shit like Atom or Wasteland. If you want a good stepping stone into the genre go for DOS2. If you are want jank whose only redeeming grace is build autism go for Pathfinder. If you want a challenge and the overall best CRPG from the modern resurgence go for Underrail.

I tried Fallout and whenever the map was littered with small enemies like rats and moles it was truly boring, so I understand turn based haters

Play either Deus Ex or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
    >Why?
Deus Ex is real time and you only manage yourself. It is also level based so it's scope won't be too overwhelming compared to other games in which you have the full map accessible to you within a couple hours. It gives you dialog choices that can influence how you tackle certain parts of the game while having some differing methods to get to an objective in a lot of levels.

With Star Wars: KotOR you get a taste of real time with pause, but without the rigid older DnD mechanics. The game starts off small on the intro planet and then eventually opens up to a few planets with their own self contained objectives. You also get more customization options when you level often getting attributrs, skills, feats, and possibly Jedi powers.

albeit both being good, they are not very much crpg style

This is the worst time in all of human history to play CRPGs. Wait a decade for the genre to die and reboot itself for a third time.

KOTOR is a good starting point.

Play Baldur's Gate 1. It's low level d&d. You start at level 1. No matter what class you pick, even the ones that eventually become the most complex, you start with jack shit so it's easy to pick up and gradually become accustomed to the gameplay and mechanics.

      >I tried playing Divine Divinity
      >His first crpg game is a fricking Larian game
lmao, no wonder you hate this shit, you picked one of the worst, most moronic company that makes fanfiction level games.
Try old Baldurs gate, Icewind Dale, Temple of Elemental Evil, Arcanum (jank kino), Fallout 1,2, Pillars of Eternity (meh), Avernum, underrail
Or something more old school like Eye of the Beholder, Wizardry 8, Grimrock

Overall stay away from cringe companies that hire to fill quotas like Larian and Owlcat

Any suggestion for Baldur's gate 1?

roll until you get a 90+, ability values only get positive modifier at 16 or more in AD&D
quick save a lot, use guides, get the red wizard edwin ass companion, you can kill a companion to maintain the other

I suggest posting what RPGs you've played and really liked. Then playing the CRPG version of those games. Liked Fallout 3/NV? Well, play Fallout 1/2 etc. Fantasy RPGs are more broad as they are all DnD based and similar in that regard.

That's pretty shit advice because I hated Fallout 3 but loved Fallout.

There's really no easy way to get into CRPGs. They're complicated and difficult messes as a general rule. In terms of top-down camera your best bet is actually Dragon Age Origins. Or Neverwinter Nights 2. There are a ton of old mechanically clunky CRPGs you can try if you're into archaeology, like Arcanum, Planescape Torment and Fallout 2.

Start with Morrowind, New Vegas, or anything Bioware. Kotor 1 is what got me hooked.

Arx Fatalis was very good for it's world and atmosphere. Completely drew me in and made me really yearn for more crafted underground stories. Combat also felt much better than something like Morrowind, and drawing runes was a little bit fun.
Neverwinter Nights is really fun with someone, spent a lot of time as a teenager (after game spy was already dead) dicking around and making combos with a couple friends.

the only CRPGs I've finished are fallout 2, Disco Elysium, and Pillars of Eternity. Real time with pause is the best as fights can take as much or as little time as you want. I've played all the modern turn based CRPGs and get so fricking bored watching all the bad guys slowly trudge towards my dudes one at a time. Not to mention all the Larian "barrels LOL" bullshit.
    Play Pillars, it's great.

What IS a CRPG and what makes it different than other different RPG games?
Is Disco Elysium a CRPG? That's the game I'm currently playing.
I could move on to Planescape: Torment since I've heard great things about this game here, though I'm wondering what other games let me have great companion that I could form friendships with (no romance because that shit is gay)

they're just western RPGs. not sure why that Black person up there posted dark souls. disco elysium is a crpg, yes. and also hipster trash.

      >What IS a CRPG and what makes it different than other different RPG games?
CRPG is meant to mean computer rpg as opposed to tabletop rpg. It's used to refer to top down rpgs with rulesets similar to tabletop games. They're not just WRPGs. Skyrim is a WRPG but not a cRPG. Fallout is a WRPG and a cRPG.

          Non-morons care what words mean.

          >Skyrim is a WRPG but not a cRPG. Fallout is a WRPG and a cRPG.
pedantic arbitration. they're both crpgs, your google definition notwithstanding.

          >your google definition
Dumb child. That's what the term is used define. Getting pissy that you thought it just meant WRPG won't change that.
