You're full of shit. Girls want hobbyist gamers because you aren't doing what you're told. If you don't buy the newest baldurs gay then they like you. Hot girls just wanna frick and play video games. They want streamer boyfriends. They don't care, if you neetmax and act like a criminal and play old games they will fall in love with you. They don't want some pussy too afraid to share what they like, or some homosexual who thinks video game knowledge is institutional and the girl thinks the same as well vomit inducing listening to NPCs.

Ok, now back to reality where only 40% of young girls compared to 90% of young guys play games outside of phones when waiting. And those 40% are still way less interested in them them. Pick any indie game, show demographics of players and see how ALWAYS guys are 90-70% of the playerbase. You are just spending time on a virgin “hobby” that lowers your attractiveness.

It's net homosexualry. If you are over 16 and play video games, then you're a homosexual manchild. 16 years is supposed to when you come of age. When a man becomes a man. Your teenage and young adult period should be spent honing skills and knowledge in your preferred field, building wealth, and becoming financially stable enough by your late 20's to be able to raise a couple of children.

anon here has a point looking at things from his point of view. Game play is an activity that children and the 'higher classes' can afford to engage in continuously, because the rest are normally doomed to slavery and to the struggle for day to day survival. If you project that to countries, then the more advanced ones will in general be able to afford such pleasures, while the rest will usually see playing games very much as anon here sees it.

TLDR game players are a bunch of losers from indianon here's point of view. scamming now, there's something productive.

A stable career with flexible worktime and lots of benefits. A good relationship with my family. I even stay in contact with old friends. But the thing that makes me the happiest is life is when I'm able to squeeze in a few hours to play the video games I used to play as a kid. That's when I feel the best. Gaming and game playing are not the same. In the 70s playing video games was very positive. In the 80s till about 1983,84, it was still positive. Then it started to become increasingly negative through the years, and here we are now. bill gates and those with his kind of mindset are very responsible for the negative in many ways.

Millenial here. Video game violence started getting weird with Mortal Monday, i remember having to use a game genie to change the grey blood to orange on the SNES. Looking back, its a little weird that everyone was so excited to have a game where you can rip a guys head off with the spine attatched, but whatever.

The next big outcry was when Grand Theft Auto went 3D, and looking back again, yeah its even weirder that you have an open world with free will, but you can shoot a bunch of cops or kill a hooker and take her money.

The current phase is now, COD, Battlefield, etc, are all just mass shooting simulators. Remember, No Russians. Hundreds of thousands of americans are starting thier morning grinding to unlock gun camos by headshotting 75 people with no attatchments

I cannot imagine what the future will be like

Reposting an old comment of mine.

I used to live and breathe videogames. I had thousands of hours recorded in my Steam profile, but I finally deleted my Steam account last year. One of the best decisions in my life bros. If you are addicted to gaming like I was, it's going to be difficult as hell in the first weeks. You might relapse one, two, many times. Try it anyway. I don't think gaming in itself is bad, but it's really easy to over do it, especially if you've been immersed into gaming during your formative years. Some games helped me get through rough patches of life but they are best taken in small doses. My advice is to track you vidya time and compare it to other activites and hobbies in your life. If your weekly amount is anywhere near 20h (which is the rough equivalent of a part time job), ask yourself why you're playing so much and how you could improve the quality of your life. 20h sounds like a lot but I can assure you most people underestimate their weekly vidya time.

Video games “provide” people with a false sense of accomplishment which they, in turn, use in order to compensate for their lack of success in real life, not to mention the damage done to their bodies (eyes and brain being the most egregious examples) and social skills.

This is a very important remark.

I can’t tell whether or not you’re being sarcastic and I’m becoming increasingly concerned with the thought that I might be moronic, autistic or both.

Not being sarcastic at all. For some years I became very strongly vocal about the damage video hardware post 80's was silently doing to game players but no one seemed to listen. Backlash responses from some people were common. I tried to tell "gamers" online about it on different forums and even got banned in some. I discussed it with some programmers and professionals in the field and none could refute what I explained in technical terms because it's the truth. Eventually I said frick them all and got busy elsewhere.

Net positive. As Romans did say "bread and circus". It allows people to do jack shit and not bother others. Plus it fuels economy.

What does "net positive" and "net negative" mean?

  38. 7 months ago

    Net negative.

Sort of depends on the more meta question of what constitute positive and negative.
But my general opinion is that modern society values 'easy entertainment' too highly.

Out of curiosity, what would fit your definition of something that’s not “easy entertainment”?

As kids, I'd say it's mostly a no-brainer that it's better they go outside to play with whatever imaginary games they come up with compared to sitting at home letting the machine do the thinking and only their thumbs doing the work.

        Same goes for adults.
I envision a much healthier culture and population if people where gaming and tv-watching is replaced with sports, hiking, etc and 'hands on' hobbies

          when i was a kid (80's/90's) i
          >played in the woods
          >built camps
          >made fires
          >watched cartoons (heman, thundercats etc)
          >played my megadrive
          >made art
          >kissed girls
          >played piano
          >etc
so basically what i'm saiyajin is not everyone is a moronic mong who loafs about staring at a screen.
but these days it does indeed seem to be the default for all age groups, even old crusties can often be seen staring at their phones.
          pathetic

however i do realise the irony of this post juxtaposed with the fact that i'm sat here f5ing threads on teh 'chon but whatever, my tastes have changed as the years have gone by.
i swear we all got sucked into a fricked up simulation universe or something around '01 give or take, 11/9 was a massive ritual

Oh yeah, I'm not about to throw any stones first myself.
But like, I could be a heroin addict and understand that heroin is bad.

The solution would be some grandiose societal changes that values the non-electric-stimuli lifestyle more.
But I don't think human nature and our desire to push culture in a better direction is better than the billion dollar tech companies fighting to take their slice of your 1440 minutes ever day.

So, more emphasis on physical/social activities, then?
I can the the appeal of that, but I also from time to time just want to have my own peaceful little corner where I can do whatever else I want, which I assume is where various forms of electronic media come in.

            >So, more emphasis on physical/social activities, then?
Yes. As nature "intended". I mean, the data on lack of physical activity and rates of loneliness and their detrimental effects of the mind is in.

            >want to have my own peaceful little corner where I can do whatever else I want
I think this might actually be where electronic entertainment is at it's most destructive.
Where in the past, this would have been moments of pseudo-meditation, reflecting on your thoughts, staring into the air in front of you, followed by boredom to get you up to do something productive: Today, relaxation is so often intermingled with consuming "easy" stimuli. Destroying the actual 'resting of the mind' and tricking the brain into thinking you're doing something productive.

I think there is a big failure in modern living of recognizing the value of boredom. Especially in younger generations.
I don't think it's important to actually know the meaningfulness of boredom, as long as you unconsciously let it do its work. I see this a lot in the boomer generations: Having sat in the sofa doing nothing for 15 minutes with nothing to do, they go out to do some yard work, even in shitty weather.

As a terminally online gamer-degen this rings very true for me. When I forcefully remove myself from the stimuli into boredom, productive things start happening quite soon after.
Kinda makes you wish you could move somewhere where gaming and social media (including basketweaving boards) was banned...

I've picked up going for walks when I feel the degeneracy taking too much of a hold.

No music, no audiobooks, no phone, just myself alone with my talks and sometimes not even that.

when i go round to look after my elderly recently widowed mum i enjoy walking her lab alone round the woods, couldn't imagine listening to audio books or music or whatever whilst doing it.
it's relaxing and fun, he's a good boi and has learnt how to come back to me when i call him (just about, lol)

Depends on the individual and how much time played. A few hours a week a benefit from relaxation. More than that a negative from lack of productivity and family time. If a person works physical job it's good, if they sit it's bad.

One of the worst things to ever happen to society.

Men naturally want to be out in the world and physically doing things. Video games literally siphon your energy into whatever simulation is on your screen.

    It's evil.

It has always been a net negative. Civilization and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

Currently net negative, remove the competitive online aspect of games, and MMOs, and they would be a net neutral at least. Nothing wrong with single player games in moderation, but terminally online young men spending every waking moment in or around a video game is extremely detrimental

They’re good for grokking the math of various scenarios, but only reduction to physical practice will impress anyone.
