Being an IT engineer doesn't mean you're actually consumer tech savvy or geeky
These people tend to be the tech non geeks, there so many of them it's ridiculous.
They work their tech jobs from 9-5 go home don't give a shit about playing games, vidya, doing coding for fun on some fun project.

Instead they do normal stuff or hipster stuff.

Some dedicate their lives to fricking vinyl records or buy 6000$ coffee machines and obsses over that. Or more commonly cars or watches.

Meanwhile your Ganker autist comes or never leaves house and after 8~10 hours of work continues to sit infornt of a screen and plays video games.

yeah, a lot of people dont understand that there is a difference. we have "IT engineers" at my job who barely know a thing about even basic IT shit. they get us regular IT people on site to actually do the IT shit they know nothing about. these "IT engineers" mostly just do very slight tweaks to certain things in our system, forward it to the person who handles it, or do data entry. thats it
i came to realize that being an "industrial engineer" is just "checking emails over 95% of the time while in air conditioning"

            >"checking emails over 95% of the time while in air conditioning"
Kek, literally this. I work as an electrical engineer and I feel like I'm getting paid way more than I deserve. In my previous job as a forklift driver, I had to work way harder to meet the daily quota, and the pay was almost three times worse than what my current one is.

Apple back in the day was primarily selling bulk amounts of computers to offices & other such things, because their relative ease of usage and fairly robust office suite.
Apple now is primarily a luxury brand, which while it does have some quite good software, is horrifically overpriced because they know people will pay that much for it.

Being able to use iMessage, Mail, Music, etc. These apps are great on Mac and far better than any Windows equivalent. You probably don't message people, but it is very nice being able to smoothly and easily text people with features such as it popping up on your screen when you get a text and you just click "reply" and type it and you're done.

One of my favorite features is that if you get a 2FA notification via text on Mac, it'll autofill the 2FA text into Safari for you. Very nice quality of life.

If you have an iPad, you can set your iPad next to your Mac and it'll wirelessly connect and act as a second monitor to your Mac that you can drag and drop things onto and use for productivity.

If you have an Apple Watch on, your Mac will auto unlock and you can bypass password requirements.

If you have Apple Home products, you can control them via your Mac very easily.

If you have an iPhone, you can connect it to your Mac and use it as an additional camera/viewpoint during conference calls.

You sync all your reminders/notifications/calendars/messages/photos/videos/etc all between your devices. Your photos you take on your phone are automatically on your Mac.

I could go on and on.

Question was asked and I answered. Everything I said is factually true. If I want to add something to my phone, I drag and drop it on there without even needing a wire. It's just seamlessly there. If I need something off my phone, same thing in reverse. If you want to use your AirPods, you just pick them up and they're connected to your Mac if that's what you're using. If you want to swap to your phone, you press a button. There is an undeniably nice simplicity to Apple products if you are deep in the ecosystem.

I don't know that I'd recommend a Mac to someone who isn't a professional, or to someone that is totally outside of Apple and doesn't have an iPhone, but it is a great product.

I've never understood the purpose of gaming Windows laptops. You have to plug them in to use them well. They get overly hot. They burn the frick out of you. They are overpriced pieces of shit. What's the point of a gaming laptop that has to constantly be plugged in and gets too hot to sit on your lap? It's not a laptop. It requires a desk. Just use a fricking desktop PC or a small form-factor tower if you need portability.

I agree that that is moronic unless you just don't care that much about gaming. If you are a gaming enthusiast, no matter the situation, you should always have a decent desktop PC.

I play games probably 90% on my Mac, 10% on my desktop PC. Most of the games I play have Mac ports and I'm most comfortable playing on the couch. I would never, ever play a competitive game on a laptop, though.

I have a very recent Windows gaming laptop and my girlfriend has one as well. They burn the frick out of me when I play a game. I do not believe that there is a Windows laptop that does not burn the frick out of you when you are playing a modern game at more than 30FPS.

Why do you think it's called a laptop, genius? I use my Mac on my lap every day on my couch. I have my Mac on my lap and then my mousepad + mouse sits on the table next to me, and that's how I play most games. I go to my desk for work. People that work at a desk all day don't want to sit at one when they get home.

Right. I've used Windows texting options and they're slow and buggy as frick. Half the time they don't work, it desyncs, your texts aren't there, they don't send. iMessage works 100% of the time and has numerous features built into the OS like preset replies, auto-inputting 2 factor authentication texts into Safari, being able to reply in the pop up that appears, etc.

Show me how you can easily set up your Nintendo Switch as a second monitor for your Windows PC? What the frick are you even talking about? What monitors have WiFi support? Do you not understand what I'm saying?

Show me the watch that lets you unlock your Windows laptop.

You just don't understand what the frick you are saying. I mean you can easily click and manage and control and interact with any Apple product in your house seamlessly with a great interface and it actually works. You come from a world of broken garbage that only works half the time and has awful interfaces that you probably have to download online and they don't interact with one another. I click a button on my toolbar and can turn my lights on, fan on, TV on, etc, instantly.

Google products do not integrate seamlessly with your Windows operating system, moron.

You are a fricking idiot. It's clear that you've never used an Apple product and have no idea what you are talking about and don't know what you are missing. Probably a Brazilian or Mexican or something.

I stumbled into getting an iPad for free and it is amazing how much of a pain it is to do basic stuff after hearing people say that Apple "just works" for so long. I expected to plug the thing into my computer and drag and drop files between them, but ended up spending a few hours trying to figure out how to get iTunes working right. I have still yet to find a great process unless an application has its own built in file transfer feature.

He's not wrong. Nothing comes close to the experience Apple products provide. Not even close. Everything is so polished and sometimes ingenius it's ridiculous. They make Microsoft and every other tech company look like amateur bootleggers, like they were designed in China or India by mud-eaters with fake engineering degrees.

if you read the article, it just says that he sold his rig to swap out for that macbook as a portable work machine, and decided to switch to gaming on consoles since he has less time to play videogames and opts for convenience instead of quality. I mean, shit dude if I woke up one day and really stopped caring about gaming and wanted to focus on work or some other shit, I'd probably get a decent laptop for work too, albeit not a fricking macbook

Not gonna read the article, but no, he's not necessarily wrong.

There are several advantages to the modern M1 MacBooks. I have one for work purposes. Grew up hating Mac and being a Windows gay.

-Doesn't need to be wired to get full throttle performance, unlike any other laptop
-Extremely long battery life (20+ hours)
-Best keyboard/trackpad/usability out of any laptop
-Hardly ever gets hot (the hottest it gets is nothing compared to my Windows laptop)
-Crazy nice screen on the higher end models with the MINILED display, 120Hz (looks way better than any other monitor I've looked at)
-MacOS is indisputably superior to Windows 10/11 and anyone who says otherwise simply hasn't tried Mac
-Can heavily customize and rice it (even more than you can rice Windows. GL installing a good WM on Windows)
-Better for productivity, coding, work, etc, than Windows
    -More stable than Linux
    -iPhone interconnectivity + Apple ecosystem
-Great performance on games that support Mac/M1
    -Decent options otherwise with VMs/Wine
-Very cool features such as being able to charge via USB-C

    Downsides:
-Very limited library of games that are specifically optimized for M1/Mac.
-Some security features are pretty irritating, but there are ways around all of them
    -People will call you gay
    -Takes getting used to

I play Total War Warhammer a lot and so I'm perfectly happy with my Mac because that has a great Mac port. In fact, most PC games I play have great Mac ports. I get around 60FPS~ with my Mac M1 Pro on Warhammer 2. I use VMs or Wine to play what doesn't work on Mac, or else I just go on my PC and install it and run it to my Mac via Steam Link. Any competitive game I'm going to play at a desk on my PC, so I don't know why I'd need a laptop for that anyways.

      Anonymous

Article just reads like a stealth paid ad for Apple shit in general.

      >-Extremely long battery life (20+ hours)
This is the only real reason to want an M1, and is the current laptop I would consider buying for that reason alone, since I'm not going to game on that shit anyways. Problem is I fully expect Apple to drop Rosetta support in another generation so they can repurpose the silicon used for certain X86 instructions for something else.

Never cared much for anything Apple, but I'm kind of wanting to try it now that Windows is increasingly shit. Their pricing isn't encoiraging for people who "just want to try it" though.

      Anonymous

Well, it's actually very reasonably priced for the specs you are getting. If you compare the specs of the base model MacBook Air to a similar-priced PC, you'll see that in terms of power, productivity, and features, the MacBook Air is way ahead.

People live in the past with this I think. It used to be that Apple made good products that were extremely overpriced. Other people competed and made good or almost-as-good products at decent prices. Nowadays, everything is fricking shit garbage but they charge as much as Apple does. Apple's prices have pretty much stayed the same.

I realized all this pretty recently. I used to be exactly like a lot of people in this thread but then I gave Mac a chance and realized I was just being moronic. Windows 10/11 is literally the fricking stupidest operating system ever made. It is such a bloated piece of shit that hardly functions. Microsoft spies on everything that you do and shoves shit like gay pride rainbows on your taskbar. Apple, meanwhile, gives you shit like Private Relay that lets you hide your browsing from your ISP, along with a million privacy features and options.

Google and Microsoft are the real bad guys nowadays.

Well holy frick sorry for having decent expectations for an expensive piece of shit and basic shit like being able to extract my data from a hard drive thats essentially bricked due to a component getting fried on the motherboard.

This is literally the same situation if you buy a laptop from Razer or any of the major players in the Windows market. You think you can easily replace parts/components in a Razer laptop that breaks?

        Anonymous

Yes. Honestly. I could replace a fricking piece of shit on a Razer laptop in comparison to a mac.
I CAN EVEN EXTRACT MY FRICKING DATA FROM IT.
ON APPLES HDDs YOU DONT HAVE THAT
I JUST WANT MY FRICKING DATA
        on another note
I dont buy shitty laptops that dont let you have the schematics or atleast let you order the parts
I lost about 10 days of work on that mac
so i am a bit heated.
        Nothing personal.

          Anonymous

If you look into it, you'll discover that Razer products break all the time and there's basically nothing anyone can do about it. Pretty much all major modern Windows laptops have very few repair options if the internal hardware fails. They'll just replace the whole device.

I understand your frustration, but a professional really should be working with a back-up. Any laptop could fail.

            Anonymous

I guess you can call me naive.
This shitty offbrand norwegian laptop i have for travel has a port on the side that lets me extract my data incase of a failure on the motherboard.
I remember macs having this feature before.
            But the newer ones didnt.
I will make sure to back up everything to an external hdd next time.

    >Muh overpriced garbage
You Black folk have been doing this for thirty years. THIRTY YEARS of listening to morons run their mouth just because they can, fricking tired of it especially since the M1 Air is THE price-to-performance Laptop by default right now. There are NO Windows laptops that are fanless, all aluminum, have 20 hour battery life, 2560 x 1600 screen (or even just 1440p) and the same power as M1 for $750 USD. Show me one, I'll eat my goddamn shoe.
Even if there was one I'm not switching to a dogshit OS like Windows, that shit is only for games. And I already have a PC for that so there's absolutely no point in using a Windows laptop. Zero. Niet. Nada. Their trackpads suck balls too.

As for iPhones I use an iPhone SE from 2016, I don't give a frick, I just like being able to copy/paste text and images or AirDrop files from my phone to my computer and vice versa. Show me a way to do that between Mac and Android without having to use cloud storage and I'll eat my other shoe.

I have an Ipad I use for art. It's legitimately one of the best, most versatile drawing tablets I've ever owned, and that's *before* the portability factor. CSP on an iPad Pro is fricking orgasmic.

I also have an iPhone, simply because it happened to be the least expensive option among what I wanted out of a phone at that particular moment in time. It's fine. I miss the customizability I had with Android, but I can live without it.

I couldn't imagine ditching my Windows PC for anything.

ESPECIALLY since that guy is fricking moronic; integrating your windows PC into your "Mac Ecosystem" is easy as frick; windows can use iCloud and airdrop as easily as anything, and lots of programs (For example, CSP) have built-in linking solutions. I expected it to be much more difficult than it is to get my ipad and PC to talk to eachother.

TLDR: Apple stuff is fine, but that guy's still moronic.
