Looking at achievements, less than 1/4 of players could beat DMC5 in any difficulty, and a little over half of those could beat both his fights without continues.

Given the game sold over 5 million copies, statistically speaking, he filtered around 3.75 millions. And that's just on the starting difficulties.

This is probably true. Few people actually beat their games.

For comparison the achivement rate for mission 18 is almost 45%. That's a 20% drop, but it's skewed by the two starting difficulties so it's impossible to tell how many people played either but not anything else. Nonetheless the drop for SoS is even steeper, as it's 7.5%. Not to speak of DMD (4%), BP (3%) or HaH (2%).

I think there were a lot of people who went in expecting something similar to Souls but the complexity goes over their heads. I say Souls but the lack of a dedicated dodge button really upset some people.

A very worthy contender, yes. I appreciate the degree of interplay and replay value boss Vergil has in 5. Very cathartic character to load up after you job to a particular room of enemies with another character.

I’d say that he’s a bit overtelegraphed in his moves, compared to his 3 incarnation.

looking at the stats myself it seems that around 50% of players reached vergil, and around half of those were filtered by one of his two fights, meaning vergil filtered more around only 1.3 million. an impressive total regardless.

        based choice as well

while i love the fight, I think the title goes to Senator Armstrong.

        Vergil's a great contender though.

MGR has a lot of cool going on in its presentation but honestly I can't help but feel its gameplay is really lacking. Not a bad game by any means but it's not something I find myself feeling urged to replay.

It would be really weird for Vergil to be present and not have a boss fight, even if it was some friendly sparring or a bonus thing, there being no stakes to said fight would take away from what made them special.

Nero just gets shit on throughout the whole game, he loses Yamato, the Qlipoth happens because of it, he feels like he dissapointed Dante (he was only telling him to run away for his own safety), jobs against Urizen two times, gets sidelined, should I continue?

He also might think Dante is dead for what's basically his fault, and he knows V is keeping things from him and pretty much ends up using him.

                Anonymous

Thing is, Nero was friends with V, he essentially got to know who his father truly is, and I think that played more into him saving Vergil too than the whole family thing.

            >one new weapon
Between the Arms and the guns, Dante has 6 to 10+ weapons in every game.
Nero in 5 has a sword, a gun, a special arm and 8/12 add-ons for said
Unless Mirage Blades get new moves or he gets new ranged attacks, you would need more than one new weapon for Vergil to match them
            >Mirage Blades
            >Yamato
            >Mirage Edge
            >new gauntlets
I'd argue two completely new Arms, not counting the new gauntlets, should be in order. A total of six weapons like D4nte, who had one of the smallest arsenals in the series.

              Anonymous

You're just looking at this in broad numbers and not how each character handles their different parts. Nero has one sword, but that sword has the best moveset in the series and has an extra mechanic that affects all of its moves. His Bringer has a variety of functions more than just an attack, and his gun has multiple levels of shooting that do different things. His DT improves all those things in drastic ways too. His Breakers are simple, but they're heavily specialized and very powerful if used correctly.

Vergil is somewhere between Nero and Dante. His Concentration and SDT heavily affect everything his weapons do, so it's not right to do a direct comparison with Dante's weapons, which all have their own separate mechanics and flows to them. He also handles guns completely differently, since for example Yamato has extremely good ranged abilities, and Mirage Edge is not too far behind. And he has his Doppelganger.

More than new weapons, I'm certain if we ever see Vergil in a canonical fashion, he's going to get some completely new mechanic like Nero with the Breakers or Dante with SDT. What Yamato represents to Vergil is a lot more than what Beowulf or Mirage Edge do, so him getting a true new weapon would mean more than getting a couple new moves.

No. That's Devil May Cry 1 and 3. I don't care for the boss themes in DMC5 other than Caveliere Angelo's theme. The Vergil boss fight theme is nothing compared to Ultra Violet. Bury the Light is good, but there's too many lackluster tracks.

The arena is way too big for its own good in 5, and he's overall easier to beat than in 3. Haven't played any of the games but I like a few songs and I'm looking for more like it. The ones I like Rules of Nature, It has to be this way, The Only Thing I Know For Real, and Bury the Light. What other songs are similar to those?

He's a fun punching bag in my book. Vergil 3 on DMD is unmatched though.

Isshin and Vergil (DMC3) are two of my recent favorite final bosses. It really felt like I was being respected as a player to use all that I learned to beat them. There are probably ways to cheese them but winning the duel with style and grace makes it so much satisfying. Your ego gets boosted.

DMC3 Vergil is overrated as frick, constant superarmor, his DT phase is basically a run and gun type situation and ETC
His other fights in 3 were better IMO

I think you just get a longer fight, so if you can keep it up, you get more style points.

Fricking love Vergil, but Sword Saint Isshin is up there as well. Loved how the fight was just a raw test of skill and that "Hesitation is defeat" is literally the best clue on how to beat him.

Isshin had a great set-up and characterization, but I wish he'd felt more... unique, I guess is the word. Compared to the stuff Vergil does in his two games he just feels like another fight. Owl in both his fights and funnily enough old Isshin felt more special.

Yes, DMC3 specifically. DMC5 he still blows away 99% of other video game's boss fights, but it's not as good as his fights in 3.

5 vergil doesn't feel aggressive enough. first time i fought vergil 3 i recall being surprised by the frequency of his attacks. the presentation and overall impact of the fight was better in 3s final boss than 5s imo.

      How?

I had a very aggressive fight with Vergil my first time. I later found out that for the first half, Vergil basically matches your tempo.

        Anonymous

Vergil being overly aggressive would ironically make him easier because he's only open to damage whenever he's attacking or in recovery. This is the entire reason why his DT makes him way harder, since you can only hurt him while he attacks but doing so won't stop him from doing it. That, combined with the fact that in 5 he can't be knocked out of DT and he starts repeating attacks over and over make him way harder than in 3.

It's a fight where you're not going to lose in one go, but doing repeated mistakes will be your demise and many of them will be due to you getting in trouble you didn't need to. He's exactly what he should be for a game like this.

NTA but if you don't know how to take out Doppel quick it's harder than Vergil 3's JCE. If I had to complain about any part of the fight being slow or easy it's gotta be the Dive Bomb unless you know how to stop him outright.

I think this is what makes Vergil in 3 stand out. The player sets the tempo of the fight and the difficulty dictates how fast you need to set the tempo to actually win against his regeneration. It really gives that "at each other's necks" feel for players who want to push the fight to the limit. The biggest disappointment of Vergil in 5 for me was him not immediately responding with a melee attack after shooting him 3 times.

          Anonymous

That was referring to 5, actually. In 3, like you mentioned, the game more or less sets the difficulty for you, but at the beginning of his fight in 5, if you sit back and take shots at him, Vergil will also sit back and take shots at you.

Also, not saying that 3 is bad for doing that, just stating that that's what happens. I think it works especially well for 3 narratively.

No but he is still an excellent bossfight much better than Vergil 3 mechanicly, since he doesn't vanish into thin air for 70% of fight spamming helmbreaker/judgment cuts while regenerating health.

DMC3 Final Vergil is IMO the best boss fight of all time. Great buildup, great fight, great setting and song. It's traditional but that's not a bad thing, it's like the all time classic.

    >Armstrong
All time winner for spectacle but the fight's not perfect and it's just just a little bit bloated. It's not JUST the fight.
    >The Boss
It's thematically cool, but it's also a gimmick boss. learn the CQC counter for her and she's like the easiest fight in the game.

It good. There's a few missing effects due to problems they had with the source code for the games, but they're completely playable. Well, DMC2 isn't, but that's got nothing to do with the HD Collection.

Also, if you're planning to play 4 make sure it's 4SE.
