I respect "critics" and game journalists that openly admit their own bias but regardless I don't "trust" anyone's opinion outright. I use reviews as a way of seeing gameplay mechanics and a general overview of the story and then I do something pretty radical, but please hear me out. I take the information I've gathered and use my own brain to make a decision for myself on whether or not I'd enjoy the game. I know it sounds crazy but somehow someway I don't blindly follow the opinions of others. Maybe I'm just special I guess

No you can't trust any critic. The only solution I've found is to be extremely selective. Only buy stuff on sale or when you are 100% certain the type of game it is fits your play style, usually a few gameplay vids are enough to decide. But assume 90% of what's out there is shit, raise your standards ridiculously high, and only buy games that stand out by they meet that standard. You'll miss out on some stuff but you'll miss out on all the crap too.

I look at piracy sites for new releases, then look for gameplay videos on youtube to see if anything looks fun.

I have no idea why people want others to make their decisions for them, or how it can be difficult to determine if you'll like a game when you can outright watch gameplay at any given moment.

CDPR were making Crowbcat videos of their own game to show to upper management, begging for more time. Trying to make it multiplatform, on an unproven engine, for the underpowered XBone/PS4 generation was a huge fricking mistake and wasted a ton of their time and money.
I just know modern games are TYPICALLY (not every time) shit, and I only listen to praise for things that aren't just par for the course, and that are exceptional. Typically I care more for negative critics, and trust negative reviews. Only game reviewers I particularly like are RennsReviews, JamesBlack47, Synthetic Man, and American Krogan, who has retired from making videos (God bless him).
