For $10 I'd say so, if the idea of cruising around space doing space trucking things and maybe sometimes doing some combat sounds appealing
It becomes an unholy grind once you get to the point of unlocking and repping engineers
The latest expansion has killed the game
50% performance loss
Worse than starfield tier fps exploration and combat
And loading screens and instances every time you want to talk face to face with npcs.
That's unfortunate. Is this the case even with a system that exceeds the recommended specs on Steam? On paper it reads like the game would run on a potato.
You can still play the old version through the launcher but the player base is somewhat split.
If you want a modern ish space sim then it’s fine for cheap but just know that the developers are seemingly trying to completely kill it off
They also gave up on consoles completely for some reason so they only get the legacy versions
>they also gave up on console completely for some reason >for some reason
Maybe the reason being that their game is old and is literally being held back by having to run on fricking Xbox one and PS4
Maybe they cant really update the game any further and add anything people want because of having to run on fricking ancient hardware
Everybody wanted space legs and ship interiors, but those are fricking impossible to do without modern hardware (atleast for multiplayer)
See: Scam Shitizen
Literally took them years and years and literally infinite money to get to where they are and dont think you can pull that shit off on 10 years old consoles, 8gb DDR3 memory, no SSD etc
They should have done Elite Dangerous 2 instead but in either case it would mean eventually dropping support.
Its just the nature of always online multiplayer games, you dont own anything.
I get what you mean but they could of just made it next gen only and keep the legacy service for old console owners but making the next gen upgrade free so they can still play the game if they already own it. Completely killing console support seems like a terrible long term decision.
i played it for 90 minutes and got a refund. steam emailed me saying that refunds are not intended to be used to sample games for free but they can go frick themselves
anyways, apparently Elite Dangerous is now a first person shooter because that's the first thing you do when you get in the game
Honestly I would just play https://endless-sky.github.io/. It's 2D (which is >3D), it's free and there's no stupid FPS combat.
>refunds are not intended to be used to sample games for free
so what if you buy a shitty game frick you then? like it's hte consumer's fault this industry sucks dick and demos aren't commonplace anymore?
I have used the refund option a couple of times and never gotten such a message. That anon must have been using the refund option massively to indeed sample games to get gabe to notice him that way
I spent 10 bucks on the base game years ago and managed to put in about 30 hours. I'd say that is well worth 10 bucks. You'll quickly see most of the game and have good fun up until it starts to become a tedious grind. At that point, just quit unless you're still feeling it.
i never understood this game after so many hours, i wanted a specific empire ship but no matter how much i grinded empire rep it barely seemed to go up so i just gave up after a while
If you like flying around in a spaceship yeah. It does quickly get grindy beyond what a normal person can take but if you are a simple person that likes shooting AI ships its fine. I still don't know what the frick they were thinking with the FPS combat dlc. Everyone wanted to be able to walk around in their ships, thats literally all they wanted. Instead we get decades old FPS gameplay and the one thing everyone wanted was not there because the shitty engine couldn't handle you walking in your ship while its floating in space. I guess the people in charge got scared that Star Citizen was adding FPS shooting, still a terrible decision to chase that trend.
Lifetime pass holder here.
I was really hopeful for Elite Dangerous, and enjoyed it for quite a while actually.
If you like space sims, you can enjoy it for quite a while, but I really feel like FDev just doesn't care about it anymore.
They promised so many things back before it released and it feels like barely any of it made it in. They had a '10 year roadmap' and they've barely put in like 2 years worth of what they said they wood, and the game is over a decade old now.
I'm an xbox tard but I bought it because it was cheap as frick on steam because for I wanted to play oddessy. Shit is fricking 70 gigs, fricking learn how to compress shit you god damn Black folk holy fricking ass nipples I'm still downloading this shit right now, I bought it TWO DAYS AGO. Anyway, shit is just grinding, there is nothing but grinding. Space truck or mine shit. Mine a lot of shit? Get indicted by AI and lose all the shit.
Are there any recent space games that are actually all about combat and being a badass starfighter pilot?
I'm sick of all these big space sims that end up with a shitload of boring flying in straight lines with no plot and a lot of clicking items and watching numbers go up.
>You don't need to have your dick sucked to feel like you're doing something heroic and important. >heroic and important
You obviously have not played Ace Combat then. All games are about the protagonist single-handedly winning a war.
The allies start singing this song after you destroy the once "invincible fleet" in Ace4
Never played it, heard doesn't have a story/campaign.

The game has some single player stuff, it started out as a single player game (Birds of Steel). But the devs want to make sure you're not comfy while playing the game so they pretend those modes don't exist. Same with PvE. Custom matches can still be comfy though if you just want to blast some bots.
If you have VR, absolutely.
It's objectively one of the most beautiful and immersive VR games on the market. Flying a ship in first person with your controls around you, seeing planets materialize in front of your face, the 10/10 sound design, tracking enemies in 3D by looking around you while your ship drifts in a different direction. Genuinely breathtaking.
The gameplay is just spacetrucking, though.
Any of the Star Wars games with space combat are exactly that. Starfighter, Rogue Squadron, etc.
no
Thanks

X4 is $30 right now
Grinding engineers isn't even that far into the game.
X4 is free if you can find the GOG version.
Sure, if you like the game just make sure you buy a copy after you try it.

that dude is either american or moronic if he's from eu, he can just cite eu refunds laws and he will get a refund

10 bucks for everything?
$10 for the base game and Odyssey expansion.
yes if you have autism and want to spend 10,000 hours travelling across the galaxy in real time
I spent 10 bucks on the base game years ago and managed to put in about 30 hours. I'd say that is well worth 10 bucks. You'll quickly see most of the game and have good fun up until it starts to become a tedious grind. At that point, just quit unless you're still feeling it.
Ten bux is a pretty good price for this "slamming into the edge of the docking port repeatedly" simulator.
i never understood this game after so many hours, i wanted a specific empire ship but no matter how much i grinded empire rep it barely seemed to go up so i just gave up after a while
It took me like 20-30 hours of grind to get all the empire ships.
It's a gigantic grind.
its still the same game from the 1980s but paintjobbed in a 2020 shell.

That's surprising, even X4 lets you walk around in the ship. Too bad you can't land on any planets though.
Oh you can land on the most lifeless planets imaginable. Theres even a little rover you drive around and explore with.

It's pretty good if you want a space sim but don't want to pay for EVE or play X3/4.
X4: Foundations 7.0 just dropped, probably gonna jump back in and play around. Been a while.

Everspace 2 maybe?
The only thing I've played that have AI sucking your dick for being a badass pilot is Ace Combat.
It's enough to feel badass, like in Freespace. You don't need to have your dick sucked to feel like you're doing something heroic and important.
>You don't need to have your dick sucked to feel like you're doing something heroic and important.

I'm more of a War Thunder kind of guy.

I thought Rebel Galaxy Outlaw was okay. Maybe a little too much story if anything.
Elite hasn’t been good ever since the boots-on-ground update that fricked over the performance and terrain generator
