Its really fricking good. Also you shouldnt expect any opinions worth a damn from Ganker in the first place. 90% of the posts are just going to be shitposts from mouthbreathers.
90% of the posts are always going to be young adults that haven't even played even vidya to have a functional opinion. If a person did not grow up with an NES, you can almost bet on their opinion being shit because they didn't grow up with the major advances in the hobby.
>challenges
Except the game is piss easy? >b-b-b-b-but muh pantheons
About the only challenging part of the game and a side extra mode not the main dish of the game.
Most "hard" games arent hard because they genuinely pose a challenge but are hard because they just do a bunch of cheap bullshit you have to memorize or get one shot. Everything in HK is at least fair in how it is presented and executed. There arent any bullshit HAHA I KILLED YOU INSTANTLY BEFORE YOU COULD SEE ME moments like it alot of other "hard" games. It is hard enough where it needs to be and it is FAIR the entire time while doing it. Its a game that actually rewards you for playing it instead of just punishing you for not memorizing where all the bullshit death traps are.
Oh i did and it fricking sucks. Its still an addon for the game made SPECIFICALLY to be that hard and not part of the base game itself. Its also fair when you learn its basics and wont just blindside you with a frick you instadeath bullshit.
i got it on sale a few years ago played it for a few hours got bored and have not touched it since if you want a good 2d sidescroller i would recommend ori instead
Ya pretty much. Ori is mindless gameplay and subpar platforming. Its combat is litearlly mash attack when an enemy is nearby because it auto targets everything for you. Frick that.
something similar happened with me the first time i played this game, but now it's one of my favorites. i recommend playing at least through the City of Tears (accessed after the second or third boss) before writing it off, cause that's the part that hooked me in
I really liked it. First area is pretty slow and tends to make a bad impression, but keep going and you'll get a pretty neat game. It's one of few metroidvanias where I thoroughly enjoy simply traversing the world because the movement is so good (eventually).
Hollow Knights doesn't necessarily do anything all that new, but it does everything it sets out to do very well.
I had the same thing, it honestly doesn't pick up until you get the dash. Which is honestly a shame, because I held off playing the game for so long because the start is just a slow boring slog.
The first area is pretty dull. Getting the dash makes it better, but the game really opens up by the time you get the wall climb ability.
I'd say that Hollow Knight is my favorite metroidvania style game, but I will admit that it has a slow start. If you like that type of game, give it a bit of time and I think you'll enjoy it too.
Never said that anon, but hollow knight is literally dark souls 1: a bugs life.
Hallownest = Lordran, Hollow Knight = Chosen Undead, Infection = Darksign, Reign of the King = Age of Fire, The Five Great Knights = The Four Knights of Gwyn, Wyrms = Dragons/Giants + Mr. Mushroom says that before Hallownest were other kingdoms like cycle of ages in DS where Drangelic was built on place of Lordran. Not to mention that lore is given to the player in identical manner in both games: npc encounters, that you can easily miss, items/charms description, notes in journal, secret places that scattered around the Kingdom.
I was putting off on playing this because of the art style and some other nitpicks about how the gameplay looked until I got it gifted to me by a friend some years ago.
It can feel like it's dragging and slow, specially if you tend to get lost and you're going in blind/don't know how the map works at the start, exploration is really important after all.
But once you know how to navigate your way around things and get more invested in what's happening in the story the experience gets vastly better.
The combat isn't really about complicated inputs as much as it is more about complicated timings and proper positioning, dodging stuff and memorizing certain patterns as well as, in some cases, learning how to even avoid/manipulate them.
It's a good game, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone since I know a lot of people just get immediately turned off by sidescrolling metroidvanias, and that's pretty much what it is. I like it, personally, but I understand some people just don't really click with it and that's fine too.
no cost too great
Oof
>Dark Souls meets undertale, so heckin epic!!

Ah, so you never fought nightmare grimm, ok.
all you do is stand in the middle and wait for it to attack you. not unfair, just really quite boring.
Oh i did and it fricking sucks. Its still an addon for the game made SPECIFICALLY to be that hard and not part of the base game itself. Its also fair when you learn its basics and wont just blindside you with a frick you instadeath bullshit.
i like it but i find i need to take breaks from it or i get burnt out real quick
yes, and its pretty long too. huge map to explore and the boss fights are fun/challenging. def worth the price if ur into these types of games
yes
i got it on sale a few years ago played it for a few hours got bored and have not touched it since if you want a good 2d sidescroller i would recommend ori instead
yikes

get better taste
ENTER
Heard that game was decent but havnt looked into it much.
Is the closest game to SotN.
It's shit and MASSIVELY overpriced. Ignore shills. It's a 10 dollar game you would normally wait to get 50% off.

It's worth the price for sure
The game is underpriced. Very worth it if you like metroidvanias.
I tried to play this 3 times and I get so fricking bored after 15 minutes. It didn't clicked with me

>copies dark souls lore word by word
>"We were inspired by Zelda 2 okay guys? We never even played Dark Souls"
based devs
>dark souls invented plots with a dark theme
Piss off.

These comparisons only work if you look at the game in extremely broad terms, to the point if being reductive.
It's decent if you like that type of game. A solid 7 or 8/10 game.
I was putting off on playing this because of the art style and some other nitpicks about how the gameplay looked until I got it gifted to me by a friend some years ago.
