Is it worth the 60 dollar price tag?
I've never played it but I love superstar saga and paper Mario.

Yes, doubly so if you never played the original. It's the best Mario RPG.
The absolute state of new-neo-nu-nova-/v/
Why do so many of you homosexuals give off a feel like you've never emulated anything in your lives, and you don't know how to?
18+
Tendies are just massive bootlickers. Never forget that they bought 3 roms for $60 because Nintendo said it was a limited edition release.
My shit tier PC can't run games on Dolphin at a remotely playable framerate so I don't care
If you have a decent laptop from the past 3 or 4 years it should run switch games fine
If your PC that you built can't run it then you're doing something seriously wrong (which is being a blatant paid shill for bing kek)
It actually doesn't matter anyway as it's mostly 1:1 with the OG game but significantly uglier so you could just emulate that
My laptop is genuinely shit anon I don't know what to tell you, you say it "should run switch games fine" but it can't run Mario Kart Wii at higher than 15 fps
It's my craptop and I know what doesn't run well on it from experience
Alright vegans, you did your obligatory "pirate games" post per thread, now you're free to go.
Nah frick you. Astlibra Revision just released on Switch and it was $20 for a better 70 hour game and you could have supported an indie dev instead of feeding into this culture of remakes for games that did not need them. Put Super Mario RPG on NSO and nothing changes. You know, like how it was on VC and the SNES mini.
I love SMRPG but it's a ripoff at $60, this is the exact kind of release that would have been on the 3DS for $40. It's the same issue that Mario Wonder, Metroid Dread, and the Link's Awakening remake had.
>ITT butt hurt indie game devs mad nobody likes their game and would rather play Nintendo games
Metroid Dread is worth 60 but agree with everything else.
ok here's the thing turbohomosexual
Anyone with half a brain set up an emulator. People pay for convenience, to use the hardware they paid for, and to support the further development of games from a particular developer.
The question is whether the experience is worth 60 dollars and supporting this.
A good formula is this: 2 dollars for each hour. If you put 30 hours into a 60 dollar game, then it's probably worth it.
That being said, this game probably isn't 30 hours of gameplay. Wait for a used copy.
>and to support the further development of games
ok then why did you BUY this one? No more mario games if you didn't paypiggie and cough it up?
Even if its a big company you should still support the types of games you want otherwise you risk that they will stop making games you actually want do its basic supply and demand principles Its economics 101. I still pirate Its just if i give a shit about a franchise I give them money every now and then to them so I can enjoy more content from them in the future I do not always play the most main stream of games that are garranteed sequels .
People who played the originals or emulated it in the 2000's now have enough money to afford buying games without thinking twice about it. It's just generational.
Young'uns will have more time than money, so of course emulation would be more recommended for them.
I'm not a poorgay unlike (You)
I have replayed this 4x on emu and still bought day 1 kys
>hey guys I'm vegan!
>please give me attention pleeeeease!
nobody cares
Paper Mario, TTYD, and Superstar Saga are all better.
Yeah its the best mario jrpg
If you've never played it, then it might be a good starting point, but you should honestly play the original afterward. It's a bit better since it's less condescending in the difficulty. The remake adds like 50 different mechanics that make the game a complete joke, and to be honest it stops being fun.
This tbh. The game feels so automatic with all the new mechanics lmao. The original was already easy as frick.
As someone who didn't play the original: If you simply decide not to participate in the timed attacks/defense mechanics, would that make the stats exactly like the original?
>If you simply decide not to participate in the timed attacks/defense mechanics, would that make the stats exactly like the original?
Timed attacks, blocks were in the original. Only difference is enemy spells used to be unblockable, now some can be blocked.
One thing you can't turn off is that regular attacks will deal 'spread damage' but honestly, it's fairly minimal and the spread damage can even miss enemies.
Keep in mind the original was already a pretty easy game, so the new features were probably for kids playing the game for the first time. The game was always meant to be babies first jrpg
>30 year old game with a texture pack
Sure is worth 60 dollars you fricking homosexual.
A good game is always good. Graphics do not matter.
As long as they didn't frick the gameplay it doesn't matter if it's 500 years old.
Please have a nice day if you paid 60 dollars for an snes game in the current year
I did. Its Square Enix’s best game released this year. They should be rewarded with effort
I don’t think square had anything to do with it outside licensing.
The dev team is a subdivision of SE which was in charge of several DQ ports.
Wait a minute- Weren't SNES games $50 when they were brand new back then?
They where even more expensive than that
Super Mario RPG was more than sixty five american dollars back in 1996. I saw some places charging $75. SMRPG was one of the most expensive SNES carts to make.
30 bucks, don't know where everyone is getting these 70+ USD prices from. there was also renting which most poor families (like mine) did
What a weird thing to lie about
lie about what
Used cartridges existed and were cheaper, yes.
Bargain bin shit could be had at blockbuster for that price maybe. Not new releases. Street Fighter 2 was 69.99 at launch.
SNES games were 59.99 for ordinary games. RPGs were 79.99+ because they used much bigger rom sizes.
It depends on the game. I remember Kirby Super Star costing around $80 brand new. I think the standard price for most games was around $50-$60. One of the main reasons why PS1 was so popular is because most of their games only cost $30-$40 brand new. Even fricking Final homosexualry 7 cost about $40 new which is an impossible to get for anywhere near that price now.
Price doesn't matter as long as it's good poorgay.
Just pirate it and stop whining at people allowing your hobby to continue existing.
why would i pay? it's free
Me spending 5,000 dollars on Fortnite cosmetics
I paid ~$90 for Super Mario RPG on SNES earlier this year.
Okay, but this thread is talking about a Switch game.
Honestly this.
Oh well maybe we will finally get a sequel.
And maybe it won't suck despite being a Square Enix thing.
lol
lmao
>As long as they didn't frick the gameplay
They did frick the gameplay. Even if you don't activate the 100% gauge moves every time you do something that builds it (enhance an attack, perfect block) the active members THAT YOU CAN NOW ALSO SWITCH OUT EVEN WHEN DEAD give small buffs.
And then they went out of their way and added a boss Rush with increases difficulty because of homosexuals like you
They knew there gonna be idiots like you and added that.
Game's over. Keep your limpdicked postgame.
Based! Peach forever on the bench until I need her healing.
>A good game is always good
it's not a good game though
>A good game is always good. Graphics do not matter.
>As long as they didn't frick the gameplay it doesn't matter if it's 500 years old.
That's an argument for playing the original, not a $60 reskin.
Why do you people care so much about people playing a remake of a game from your infanthood?
autism
a game with bad art is not a good game.
artstyle and animations is the most important aspect. it's what makes things satisfying.
Why are there 2 logos on the image?
Ong I received my Mario game in the mail and someone at the post office had stomped on it and broke the spine and blew the paper out of the case, so I complained to Amazon and got it for free when I asked who I should be billing for my time to send it back.lol.
Amazon usually just refunds broken or lost shit no questions. They only want it back for remorse returns like if it came just fine but they can still resell it as new because you never opened it, or if clothes didn't fit.
greatest Ganker thread of all time
$60 is too much imo. $40 seems more fair. Otherwise, I can't complain.
It is a great game from what little I played of it so far. They really seemed to have tried to make it look like the original as close as possible. Even the Boos make the faces from the original game even though it would have been so easy for them to not do that. Same for all the designs in the game. It feels like they cared about keeping the game the same versus what the Mario & Luigi remakes did.
>$60 for a fricking SNES game
Lmao
SNES and N64 games were like $70-80 back in the day, and that's in 1990's money. People forget that.
>highest I can get super jumping is 46
I’m not going to make it. It’s impossible.
You've gotta keep at it, anon. I never got it in the original but I did it this time around. The timing window is as tight as it gets around 20, so if you can do 46, it's just a matter of not breaking that focus. I almost quit when I choked at 77, but you'll get there if you don't get tilted and keep trying.
HOW
TELL ME
I CAN'T GET TO 20
Did they change any of the timings at all from SNES because modern displays and controllers are probably why it feels harder
Yoshi racing feels like shit to me
Some moves did get timing changes, like Jump and Geno Whirl.
I just time the button with the image guide in the corner of the screen during the races, because apparently following the rhythm of the music isn't correct.
I choked at 94 and haven’t been able to get past like 60 since
Bro...come on even that disabled fat frick aris can do it.
It's much easier this game since you know when you're supposed to jump. I got the super suit by jumping on a magmite thing in Barrel Volcano.
Well that and you get more frames per jump.
Its not worth the reward, the game is already dirt easy, even more so now with the additions, why would you even want the supersuit to break the game even further?
is this game worth playing if I'm someone who has played a lot of 'difficult' rpgs like Dark Spire, SMT, Etrian Odyssey etc? I've heard nothing but positive things about Super Mario RPG but I can't help but feel like it's a game for babies and there's nothing to the actual turn based gameplay other than just repeatedly attacking
It is fairly easy and simple in mechanics if that is what you are trying to ask.
the real difficulty is making sure you're blocking attacks, block attack= take no damage. fail to block attack=take half your health in damage
No. It’s probably the easiest rpg out there tbh. Somehow easier than earlier FF and basically every pokemon.
so why is it so acclaimed then? Is it just Nintendo brownie points or is the story really good or something?
It’s a decent ride, it’s 100% “I grew up with it so it’s a masterpiece” type deal.
it was just really good for its time, it was fun, the soundtrack is good, it was super nintendos ff7 in a way.
have you played chrono trigger?
The game is okay, but the lack of difficulty really hurts it in the long run.
anon, this is a game that just got a remake. The difficulty was something they could've fixed. Why didn't they?
its still a nintendo game my guy, if you want dark souls go play dark souls. maybe they can do like dread and add a harder mode but for now what are you gonna do alienate 90% of players cause you want a slightly harder game?
They went through the trouble of adding a difficulty slider, but they couldn't do more than add an easy difficulty? For 60 bucks I expect a little more.
They fixed it by making it even easier kek. You just need to accept that nintendo will never make remotely challenging games or even add hard modes and move on
>You just need to accept that nintendo will never make remotely challenging games or even add hard modes
Metroid Dread.
Dread isn‘t even hard, you just can‘t play it on autopilot while half asleep like other nintendo games. It‘s also not made by nintendo
Nintendo was more involved with Dread then they were with this game.
Source: your sweaty, hairy ass
Game credits and interviews. Dread had Sakamoto as a heavily involved producer since he sat on the idea so long it became his baby.
Pretty sure all that homosexual did is shove the emmi sections in, that are by far the worst parts of the game. Hopefully he fricks off for the sequel
He did more then that, MS talked about how Nintendo (Sakamoto) rode them harder then any other producer they worked with in Samus Returns interviews and that control lead to SR and Dread feeling far smoother and better designed then Mirror of Fate.
This Game's hard content is in going for extended chains, 100% completion, perfect blocks, all the funny little collectibles and new post-game content
It's never been difficult in the slightest
This game is the FF7 because of how much random minigames and comedy side content there is, I guarantee you wouldn't have had bike minigames and snowboarding and all that fun stuff if this game didn't show that people love silly diversionary content
Chrono trigger has those too but I suppose I can see it
It's fun and simple. I like Etrian Odyssey for its difficulty and strategy required. It feels like every time you venture into a floor you may not make it back out. There is anxiety and excitment every time you leave the hub town to go into the startums. Plus I really like the character/monster designs and freedom to kind of make up your own story for the adventure (and your party) too. It has a lot of things going for it that I enjoy.
For Super Mario RPG0 if you want a simple RPG using Mario characters with some fun dialouge then you can play it and be pretty satisfied. I like Mario games, Mario characters, RPGs, and adventure games (no matter how goofy they can get). I don't think people play games in the same genre for the same reason.
This. I never was into RPGs as a kid, randomly rented Tecmo Secret of the Stars and learned what random encounters were and hated it. But I played the shit out of Mario RPG.
Flash forward to when I got a 3DS and was interested in Persona Q, which led me to trying Etrian Odyssey and falling in love, and then Soul Hackers and now SMT V, which I bought day one. Maybe I've just become an Atlus RPG fan. I've never played a Final Fantasy except for a little of the original and recently X2 because of hot girls, but I can't into the battle system.
Very based Anon I fricking rate you. I love EO2 Untold as well.
It’s an entry level JRPG that doesn’t overstay its welcome and has a bunch of minigames to break up the action. And for the crowd that just spams attack and heals, you can still die since plenty of enemy attacks actually do hit hard. It’s mainly buffs and the existence of certain equipment that makes the difficulty a joke. But because of how the game is structured, it’s also easy for people to do challenge runs. It’s definitely nostalgia in play for a lot of people, but I can see why it’s easy to get attached.
Timed hits and blocks are fun simple as that. This game is just a fun romp its nothing deep or complicated but if your looking for a challenge only the post game in the remake and maybe one or 2 fights during the main game if you don't level much are anything resembling a challenge.
They've made it even easier than the snes version. It's now moronic child tier.
All games are for babies anon. I don’t care if your game has a grimdark edgy skin on it or not.
lol
play the armageddon romhack if you have autism
Its babies first Final Fantasy
(besides the other babies first Final Fantasy)
All those games you listed are games for babies anon. Turn based games without randomized elements are moron tier games.
Probably not. You play some real ass rpgs mang. Back in the Snes era in the USA, there wasn't a single game that compared to anything you listed. At least not on the SNES. The Genesis had the more hardcore rpgs for some reason like Shadowrun, Shitting in the Darkness & Warriors of the Eternal Sun.
Bro... SMT1 and 2 were on it...
Not in the USA. Which is what I said. Japanese SNES had a lot of hardcore rpgs like the japanese version of Might & Magic 2 which is a turn based SMT game for some reason. Shit there's Tactics Ogre & Front Mission although Front Mission kinda sucks these days. Romacning Saga 3 is a fricking classic. In the USA though, Genesis had way more hardcore rpgs. SNES Shadowrun was basically the 16bit version of a movie game while Genesis Shadowrun was a 16bit version of an open world action rpg.
I play just about any RPG I can get my hands on. SMT, SaGa, Mana/SD, FF, DQ, Pokemon, Mario RPGs,Glory of Heracles, etc. Difficulty and length are not the criteria for a good RPG. Mario RPGs are short, but dense, rarely having moments of empty traversal or longwinded cutscenes. They are easy, but usually have a lot of secret/optional content, a few challenges if you are interested, and make up for any shortcomings with engaging action-based combat and traversal and their charming and funny story beats and goofy characters. It's like a dessert compared to FF's lunch and SMT's dinner. A fun way to kill a week, or a weekend if you've already played a given game.
Good post. What RPG would you recommend someone who really enjoyed those aspects of SMRPG? I can play a hard one if I have to. I'm also big on cool or fun monster design and proudly villainous party members like Bowser or Magus, if applicable.
It's tough, because very VERY few RPGs use action commands, and I really have no idea why, other than maybe being tough to balance around. Golden Sun 1 and 2, and earlier Wild Arms games are both somewhat "cartoonier" with their character designs, offer some decent options in battle that aren't just "attack, heal, item, and magic attack", and have cool exploration abilities to use in the overworld and dungeons. Really any RPG on the gameboy has a nice, shorter length and a good pace to it, like the FF Adventure games (high encounter rates, though), the gameboy Lufia game, and Dragon Quest Monsters, all of which I think have that Nintendo charm to them thanks to their art-styles.
Appreciated recs. My friends like a lot of these.
>villainous party members
Virgo vs the Zodiac
Thank you! Been meaning to get around to Bug Fables.
np, enjoy broski
Oh, and for action commands, you could always play Magical Starsign, Undertale (if you ignore the stigma against it), or Mother 3 for action command games. Bug Fables and South Park Stick of Truth are outright Paper Mario clones. Barkley's Shut Up and Jam has action commands, and should be played for sure.
just pirate it homie
>full-priced snes remake with little to no changes to anything
Pretty much
Added new music, new graphics, updated the gameplay, added a new boss Rush
>They added nothing
>Oh no......the already-easy video game was made even easier........I kneel
The difficulty was never the reason to play this game, it's fun and I love it even if it's simple.
So why not just watch a playthrough on youtube then?
Speaking of JRPGs, are any of the Switch Pokémon games worth picking up (assuming a sale)? I remember considering the Diamond/Pearl remake but wasn't interested in the other new "open-world" games.
Honestly? I'm having tons of fun so far, I'd recommend it easily.
Can you change the language ingame or am I going to have to import a JP copy to play it in moon?
I don't think there's an option for changing language. In fact, I was a bit let down how little options they give you. There is no option to change the button/controls either. They do let you change the music to the original so thats at least nice. You can also change the difficulty to easy mode at any time it seems.
Guess I'll import a copy. Thanks anon.
Doesn't default language usually depends on you Switch's language settings?
Honestly I found it to be hard as frick and I'm a Jrpg veteran, having beaten games like Mario and Luigi Partners in Time and Fire Emblem Three Houses
It's definitely easier than the original, I remember getting my ass kicked by Mack-I mean Claymorton to the point I needed multiple retries but he was easy in the remake
Yes, you will pay the Soul Tax.
It’s worth like $30 I guess. It’s only about 10 hours.
Pirate it like a normal person.
It is a frick ton easier then the original which is annoying and the QoL changes took getting used too. Still, item descriptions being accurate this time is nice. Ordered a second copy to gift my brother's house for Christmas.
Supposedly the post game bosses are a good fight but with how the bonus system works and missable equipment, am worried one can cuck themselves out of being strong enough for the super boss second round.
The rematches aren’t that hard. It basically just reminds you to use buffs and get the timing right on blocking. Lazy Shell armor still trivializes a lot of stuff, and even without it you’ll end up with a pretty fair challenge.
What missable equipment?
The Lazy Shells, mostly. And the Jinx Belt. And that badge you get from the three ghosts.
I'm guessing the Lazy Shell and the ones in chests at the Bowser Castle door trials
>Bowser Castle door trials
I was able to go back. You still can only do 4 randomly at a time.
There's even a cheevo to encourage newfriends to return to complete all 6 gauntlets.
What is it? I've never been able to clear the platforming-based ones. Isometric platforming was always a mistake.
Oh cool I forgot you can redo that part.
So in this remake, what's the best way to level up your stats? Just go ham on attack and magic every other level or is the extra hp really necessary?
For me, I'll get extra HP if it's a bonus level on certain characters. +9 HP on Peach is huge. But +4 HP on Mario is nothing.
Magic for Mallow and Peach, Physical for Mario and Bowser, both for Geno. If an HP bonus gives a big boost go with that, except for Bowser since his base HP is the highest anyway.
Honestly I was thinking of Dodo's feather from the statue game only to find you can buy it in Moleville after.
Since when are the lazy shells missable?
>people freaking about about the splash damage
>timing is super precise for it to work
>when it actually works, its barely enough to kill a goomba
This is what we've been whining about for the last 4 months?
I'm having fun with it, but I don't know if it's a "true" RPG. The game is extremely simple. I also don't know if I'd consider it a video game. The Switch isn't "gaming." Only PC counts.
Honestly, no it isnt. If you can combine your gold points along with buying the Nintendo voucher using them so you can get it at a decent discount (its what i did and got the game for around $30), than yeah.
You'll finish this game in 10 hours max, and get an extra hour out of refighting some of the bosses post game and only one actual new boss. I dont get some of the false advertising with anons on here, maybe the nostalgia boner or its just the tism. It is a good game, and you will enjoy the time with it, but it is short, and it'll probably leave you wanting alot more than what you got, and it really doesnt have much replayability other than maybe another playthrough with the 2 party members you didnt want to use the first time.
No, play the original instead, the remake makes an easy game even easier thus killing the experience altogether.
>The remake kills the experience of babys first jrpg by adding QoL making it more baby's first jrpg
I wonder how much Miyamoto was seething as the non-generic Toads got added into the game.
I heard the new game is easier than the snes one but is there anything challenging? was the snes game at least "old jrpg hard"?
the post game bosses are a little tough and that's kinda it
the snes game was harder but it wasn't that difficult either. for people to challenge themselves, they could do a run where they intentionally do a low level run and get fricked by yoshi egg's rng of reducing exp gained to 0
It had some rough spots here and there but nothing extraordinarily hard, but just enough to keep you engaged and making combat exciting.
All this remake needed was some adjustments to make Mellow more viable in the endgame and to fix the difficulty, a bit more tight would have been great, but they took the lazy approach and we now have this: A remake which could have been even better than the original but is just a sightly less engaging experience instead, and one certainly not worth 60 bucks when you can play the OG and have much more fun.
well I'll just wait for mods to fix it
yes, it has geno
Post proof that you weren't filtered by post-game Culex
>tfw can't figure out Ultra Jump timing
I wanted to fight him but I started getting bored. I beat all the other post game bosses though
I definitely enjoyed the road to Culex just as much as the Culex fight itself. I thought it was great that we were able to revisit pretty much every major boss but with a nice gimmick to justify the rematch. Johnny was probably the most fun because it did well to test your timing.
I got a pretty satisfying feeling during the punchinello rematch when I realized you had to keep killing his bombs to hurt him since he was immune to damage. stuff like that is fun
For the super jump I recommend practicing on a spiny in bandits way so you don't kill it. You want to hit A as Mario lands, like you're pushing the button to launch him back in the air if that makes sense. For the 100 super jumps I focused on the spiny where Mario's shoe would be when he landed as a reference point. Also, make sure you're doing the super jump and not ultra, idk if it'd count with ultra but landing on different enemies would make it harder than it needs to be.
This is real good advice, I'll try this later today.
I also thought that the only way to break 30 was to use the ultra jump on a single enemy? Damn, I feel like a fricking moron
Nah, it's just that the timing window gets at its strictest at 20. Here's a video guide that might help, it also recommends plugging in your controller for less input lag, idk if that made a difference for me but I did it just in case:
?si=KBKOtvkLXHhmJX1n
I may give this a watch later. I'm taking a little break, and all I have left is the super jumps, a few more frog coins for some missed boss psychopaths, and THE THIIIIIRD DIMENSIOOOOOON! I want my damn super suit, for once in my life.
Didn't even use the Lazy Shell armor
beat this suckers
How'd you do it that fast?
I could probably have made this fight faster if my party wasn't Lv 25. Some tips even though I did this fight first try.
>Meteor always does damage = Max HP - 1. Will use this when at least 1 Crystal is alive
>Final Claw deals 9999 damage unless you perfect block it, will only use this once all Crystals are defeated
>kill the Wind Crystal ASAP, Petal Blast and Light Bubble/Aurora Beam will destroy momentum and result in a wipe. Use Safety Badge in case
>take advantage of weaknesses, it's free damage and better than most options you got
>Geno's Stella 023 and Super Jump are the best sources of damage
>use_buffs_moron.png in other words, use Party Energizers after Culex counts to 3
I'm not gonna lie, I think Mario/Bowser/Mallow is the play for that fight. Their super move does moronic damage.
I immediately noticed Mario / Bowser / Mallow was by far the most overpowered triple move
Geno gives you buffs which is cool but hitting with ice / thunder / fire covers almost every enemy in the game for weakness
I'd probably rank Triple Moves like this:
Mallow/Bowser > Mallow/Geno > Bowser/Peach > Geno/Bowser > Mallow/Peach > Geno/Peach
But yes, entering with a full or almost full Triple Gauge so you can use Mallow and Bowser's Triple Move is a very good way to inflict a ton of damage and get a real headstart on killing off Culex's Crystals so you can downgrade Meteor to Final Claw sooner, and then you can use Jump or Super Jump on the Wind Crystal so long as your magic doesn't get shut off to take it away sooner.
The bowser/peach attack was so underwhelming.
I think it's a good one if you're facing multiple enemies that don't have a Fire, Ice, or Thunder weakness since I think it has higher base power than the Mallow/Bowser one.
That said, I'm also interested in seeing what kind of attack the Triple Moves are. If certain Triple Moves are physical and certain ones are magic (I believe the Mallow/Geno one is physical, while Mallow/Bowser is magical), then that obviously changes things in regards to what attacks will work best for certain bosses and what state they are in.
I mean visually. It’s just not as interesting as the other ones.
I kind of disagree on that. Having a giant Star-powered spinning Bowser shell kicked into the enemies for massive damage is awesome!
Meteor should have a summon animation like the team attacks to match with Sephiroth's Supernova considering that's obviously what they were going for
I want to buy it because it's a great game and the quality of the remake is high, but
>no classic mode that removes all the new easy modo shit
>no hard mode
>constant framedrops in a game that is entirely about timing based mechanics
Feels like emulating either version is the only way.
>no hard mode
them putting an easy mode instead of a hard mode was super confusing for me when they revealed the remake. I was thinking to myself "the game is already super easy, the last thing it needs is an easy mode". I really wish they added one since the base game is so easy anyway
framedrops in a game that is entirely about timing based mechanics
This is my major complaint. I noticed that a few times and was frustrated along with my stupid controller drifting (trying not to start ranting about how much I dislike the Switch). Regardless, that is completely inexcusable. Did emulator players experience the framedrop issues too, or is it just the Switch under performing?
>constant framedrops
Are you shitting me here?, are you serious?
I noticed it most in the cutscenes (unless that was intentionally made to look choppy). Sometimes it happens during battle, which I noticed happens usually when I do a Mario Jump attack. I wonder if its a weird loading thing like they unload Mario and reload him into frame for some reason?
I've only noticed them in populated areas like Rose Town and Seaside, but when they happened they were very noticeable.
I hope the plan is the Switch 2 will fix the frame drops without even a need for a performance patch.
What's stopping them from adding more content with a patch?
Nintendo is always hit or miss with post launch support, I'm not dropping 60 bucks to hope they improve it.
Just like they were gonna fix links awakening stutter issue (that modders fixed for free)
I'd say so, but I played the original as a kid so this game has a special place in my heart.
For all of the b***hing you see about other game remakes being shit and/or unfaithful (garbage like FF7R), this one is more or less how remakes should be done. The only thing it could have used was a Hard mode setting, cause it's still a fairly easy game for anyone above the age of 10
I was hoping for at least some kind of post-game extra mode where you play as Luigi or something
Getting a little side adventure to show what he was doing the whole time would've been nice
Can you only buy one fireworks now?
If you're trying to buy more fireworks for the fireworks in the ending you need to do the trading sequence to get the shiny stone, and trade that for the carbo cookie, and give it to that one mole on the bucket. Basically you can't buy more if you still have one, and for the best fireworks you need to buy at least 5 of them
Lots of the praise for this game is nostalgia
M&L games do action commands better
PM games (the first two) have better rpg elements
>M&L games do action commands better
Yeah i don't want a 50 minute mini game segment to do 70 damage, no thanks.
>Superstar Saga
>press A or B three times at the correct time
>onwards
>lenghty Mario Party minigame about blowing the mic or using gyro controls or touching the screen
Haha I loooooooove inovation. Based Nintendo is always inovating! You don't see Master Chief from Microsoft screaming into the mic to charge his laser sword.
Ironically Paper Jam was the best because they realised everyone hated the touch, mic and gyro shit so all the bros attacks are just buttons
Just emulate the original and save yourself the money, it's literally moron proof unless you're a late born zoomer that doesn't know how a can opener works or what a .exe is. (read: You only want software that emulates to mount a rom file and an .exe is a fricking virus)
Or emulate the remake.
I'm pretty disappointed in it.
I played SMRPG for the first time this year, it had a lot of charm and I found myself having a good time with it. This however feels like I'm on auto pilot. If the first game was FF4 NA Easy, this remake is Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. I've never felt more on auto pilot playing it.
In a vacuum, I like the new mechanics, it’s just that without changes, they basically blow through the game. Feels like you have to do a low level run if you want a reason to use them without tearing everything a new butthole.
I like the idea of the new mechanics but they've done nothing to balance the game to include them. Instead it's still the base game, where you then tear apart anything like they're napkins. Original wasn't hard, but this is just boring.
Surprisingly, I think the most broken thing is the fact that you have access to Peach in any battle once you get her. Even if you just keep her in the back, if your main party dies, it just auto swaps to the two surviving characters. You can’t avoid using her unless you just reset when your party dies. I still enjoyed myself but it’s mainly because I imposed so many restrictions that it wasn’t far from the original.
yeah i was pretty shocked when fighting Knife guy and Grate guy that they gave me the option of switching sleeping party members out. Like it completely defeats the point of enemies spending turns putting us to sleep if i can just swap.
It's pretty frustrating, because if they HAD put in a little effort to balance the game for the new mechanics it would be a lot of fun, it's getting to the point where i'm contemplating unequipping my weapons just to make boss fights actually last long enough to enjoy them, because currently If i don't hold back i blow bosses up in 2 turns.
So far it's been a perfect parry minigame basically. Didn't even go in wanting to do anything but just haven't been using armor and avoiding combat other than getting psychopaths and things still just melt compared to the original
MAN
My biggest complaint is I can't do battles without hearing the wiener and ball torture Wikipedia article in my head.
Explain.

Tried to play the snes one the other day and got filtered by the lizard bombs. Like one hour into the game?
imagine thinking $60 is some kind of investment
So, how does the remake run on Steam Deck?
Better question. Is there literally any reason to play this over the original?
The lack of responses tell me no
I'm disappointed in how piss-easy the bosses are now. I just beat Boyer and his henchmen didn't even come out. Do the later-game bosses get more challenging or are the only semi-hard ones in post-game?
its all generally the same difficulty, at least thats how i felt. there might be moments where you go "huh, well that was bullshit" but only due to random bad luck. but you are never going to be in a position where youre going to feel a bit pressured into actually strategizing.
never did the new boss rematch thing but im really hoping that will actually be challenging.
Well my first bit of challenge is figuring out the timing in the Yoshi race. I must be moronic but I heard others saying it was tricky. I think this would actually stump a kid.
it was bullshit back then as well. even if you feel like you got the timing down, the game always says otherwise.
I just beat it, the training part is bullshit.
Also holy shit, the map music after Yo'ster Isle is comfy as frick.
tap A and B to the cymbals, forget the whole rhythm BS
It actually helps to do it with your eyes closed, I find the A + B prompt on screen was distracting me.
I never beat it as a kid, absolutely poorly designed garbage. Seeing that its likely a set pattern with no beat (from the onscreen display they added) is extra frustrating
I'm following the onscreen display and it's still not working. They need to dig up and shoot whoever did this bit.
It's really easy in the remake. There are literally cymbals that match up with the onscreen display for you, it can be done with your eyes closed. Just hit the button as it turns white and keep the beat.
I found holding the controller close on my lap and lightly tapping the buttons with my hand above let me get the rhythm. Sometimes the game just tells you to go frick yourself and sometimes the CPU just straight up cheats.
They introduce the new team up mechanics in the bowyer fight so the first real challenge early on is gutted because of it
It's not worth the pricetag if you are into emulation at all. Just not enough content in todays age and it simple enough you can watch a movie during combat. If you're not paying I'd say it's worth playing
It's fun
the new mechanic that hits other enemies on a perfect hit is literally useless and doesn't subtract the difficulty. been playing it last night. it seems the same as the original.
I frequently just outright kill things or finish them off using it. What I don't notice at all is the little powerups it says you're getting when you build chain.
>can literally take 0 damage from anything that is blockable
>game gives your team a decent stat boost from just getting a chain of 3+, whether you get perfect or normal timing
Look, can you go purposely be a moron somewhere else?
>can literally take 0 damage from anything that is blockable
Yep, just like the original
Peach still singlehandedly carries the lategame so if you want a challenge don't use her. i ended up using her only ONCE on 3D culex and beat him in 25 turns
it's like 15 to 20 hour game for 1st time players. go for it
so is hi fi rush and that's $30.
I finished it in 12 but I haven’t done any lost game stuff. It was ok. Definitely not worth $60 but that’s the Nintendo tax for you.
FYI if you're gonna emulate the remake, Ryujinx has a fix for the lighting issues.
https://github.com/Ryujinx/Ryujinx/pull/5957#issuecomment-1817730873
Yes, and it's got post game stuff the original didn't have.
>paying for video games
It's hilarious, Gankerirgins will throw homosexual tantrums if you play video games and they'll throw homosexual trantrums if you watch someone play video games. It's like Gankerirgins only exist to throw homosexual tantrums about everything.
I don't want to marrymore I want to marry mario
What's wrong with it?
I give up. This is impossible.
I can only get up to 13 or 14 if I’m lucky, if there was any visual indication of when to press the button then maybe it wouldn’t be so difficult
The timing tightens at 14.
You are a weak kid
You are just having a laugh because of the funny number, aren't you?
Your brain is rotted.
It looks pretty but I don't think it's worth it if you played the original game, but it's better to just play the original game.
Just got to Booster Tower, my favorite part as a kid. I don't think I got much farther than that back in the day.
?si=LD64ApAvsCdlOcUQ
When you're at a level up with the HP bonus, do you guys instead shore up the characters weaker attack and defense stats or beef up their stronger attack and defense stats?
I just pick whatever increases the most. Not that it matters, the game is piss-easy.
Does it matter when you get to the superboss rematches?
I've no idea, I'm barely halfway through the game.
Depends. Magic is for Geno Mallow and Peach. Strength is for Mario and Bowser.
Health is only for the first few times you level up.
Isn't Geno good for both Physical and Magic? Wouldn't it be best to pump up both so he can substitute for Bowser or Mallow/Peach in a pinch?
Geno works well at whatever you want him to do, aside from defense I guess. I just slapped the super suit on him since he doesn't have a real Ultimate Weapon though.
He's always been a glass cannon, getting his offenses high is the main point.
>The exor glitch is still there
Fricking KINO. Thought they would remove it.
Its not a glitch its a failsafe so babies who struggle with boomer are able to move on without too much trouble
New players aren't going to know about it.
Everyone knows this trick, if they have trouble and look up strategies for Exor they will learn it in 2 seconds
>Weapons are BAD
>Also here, take this walking, talking firearm as an ally
What did SMRPG mean by this?
Living breathing thinking evil weapons that want to take over planets are bad, yes.
You need a weapon to fight weapons, duh.
Don’t forget to get your Switch Pfps
Aw, dude, I want a Chained Kong icon.
Well he's up until Thursday, just get some funny money (plat points). It's easy enough.
Oh, I got plenty. I'm just hesitant to replace my Yarn Baby Bowser I've had since Crafted World came out.
But that Terrapin is tempting too...and Frogfucious...
Frick it, I'll get all three.
Nah, not paying Nintendo shit for their goy pass.
>limited time profile pictures
am i reading this right?
Limited time to GET them. Permanent to keep them.
I had no idea Platinum Points were a thing. Just checked mine and I have 120 of them. It says that the Mario RPG icons are gonna rotate through selections until December 7, gonna save some points for Spearovich, the Axem Rangers, and Smithy.
It sucks all these OCs are owned by Square and the music too when they will never do anything with them without Nintendo
That's hilarious they made that chained ape boss an icon. Somebody at Nintendo has a sense of humor, that's for sure.
Weapons aren't the same as industrialized weapons manufacturers that peddle in death and destruction. A farmer with a shotgun to protect his property isn't the same as Lockheed Martin.
Honestly, frick Smash bros. Give this homie his own game.
Let him be in Mario Kart at the very least with Mallow, or give us that true SMRPG2 sequel
That move in your pic is so obviously going to be his Final Smash that it's like they designed it with that purpose in mind. Honestly, they've already done a lot of Sakurai's job for him. It's funny that the real reason I ever wanted Geno in Smash was just to see and hear things from this game redone in HD, and now that the entire fricking game has been given that treatment, I don't really need Geno in Smash anymore.
are these moves .mp4 files?
they sure look like it. frick that's cheap.
is ultra jump just harder to get going than super jump? to 100?
They're both hard because the timing changes every 20 jumps or so.
No, it plays like the original, only easier and the “enhanced graphics” don’t really add much. The original was brimming with charm and personality, the remake keeps some of the charm, but the new visuals look generic. I don’t really see the point of it. They should have included a hard mode while they were at it.
No, I got the original cart for $50 and the value was better
It looks like a 0/100 game to me. what am I missing?
the slop thread next door
Nothing, it's a shit remake. I guarantee the defenders were shitting on DeSR or the Shadow of the Colossus remakes too but this one is different because it's Nintendo.
The only person I see shit on the Shadow of the Colossus remake is the guy who constantly spams his comparison pictures and videos and cries about the lack of bloom in every SOTC that gets made.
I just traded a shiny stone to some kid for a cookie, what do I do with it?
You use that stone to fight Culex, you give the cookie to a mole in a bucket, I don't remember what she gives you though.
the girl in the poop bucket either gives you a frog coin or drops the frog coin and leaves the bucket to find it in which you can go down the bucket to warp to midas river and keep all coins you collect (not worth either)
How many turns did it take you to beat Culex 3D guys? 63 turns at level 23 here.
Took me 44 at 19-20 with Mario/Geno/Bowser.
Why are people losing their minds about this, and why are they only crying about Mario? Mallow and Peach also did the V for Victory sign in the original and they got changed, too.
Emulator gays BTFO. If you don’t teach people how to emulate, they buy the game, if you do teach them you save them money.
Ohnononono
Top shelf meme, sir.
>there's a Easy Mode in this game
Has anyone tried it yet? Normal is boring me to fricking tears.
I'm so glad people are finally realizing Mario RPG is babbies first JRPG, and was always intended as such
>mario game is easy
no fricking way!
Exactly
This version is easier than the baby RPG they released on the SNES. I'm in awe.
>literal 10 hour long rpg
in what world is this acceptable? i feel more ripped off than with mario wonder
yeah it needed at least 30 hours of padding
>Muh short RPG
Super Paper Mario predicted how lots of internet discussion and continues to age well like a fine wine
I love SPM but you gotta do a run where you never use any healing items if you want even a slight challenge.
Anybody else share these little issues with the game? This was an interesting read
why would you want to sell flower tabs?
How is it the balance compared to the original?
Is it really dumbed down for toddlers and journalists?
it's exactly the same, they didn't change a single enemy stat. Which would be fine, except they gave the player a shit ton of buffs. Not just the triple techs that are an instant win button on their own, but also passive buffs for getting consecutive successes with timed hits, and the ability to freely swap out KO'd party members with reserve members.
They took an already easy game and made it significantly easier.
That fricking sucks. I won't bother with the demake then.
the sad part is it's still a fun game. Like if they just tried even a little to balance the new changes it could've been great. the systems themselves are fine, they were just thoughtlessly added in.
It's especially egregious that they added an extra super easy mode rather than spending the dev time making a proper "normal mode" (I refuse to acknowledge the current normal mode as anything short of an easy mode).
I remember being shocked during the reveal trailer that they added an easy mode. The game needed a hard mode more than anything, not to make one of the easiest JRPGs ever even easier
>smithy (2000+8000hp) has twice the amount of hp as culex (4096hp)
i thought culex was meant to be the superboss
He was, at least in the original. Don't know what the frick they did there
He is because his attacks + Crystals make for a significantly harder fight. And that's without counting his rematch.
Culex has 5 attcks per turn. Smithy has 2.
>you can never have the last star in your collection/save screen
uhm my autism?
It's shit. Never buy remakes, they completely miss the point of the original.
Except this is the original. The original was always meant to be piss easy, it was a way for SE to win over the west and casuals after Mystic Quest flopped.
Why does it run like shit on yuzu and ryujinx? tears of the kingdom ran just fine.
Bros I killed the mirror mario in the pirate ship without getting the treaure (you couldn’t fight him in the original, didn’t realise talking would start a fight), please tell me he respawns
Any way to make Belome eat more than one character to clone them? I want to mind read every clone but he seems to only ever make one at most.
lose the fight
Can’t you just buy the mind logs from the new dude in Booster Pass?
The entire roster unlocks after you beat the game and then you can just buy them with frog coins from the guy in Booster Pass. I accidentally killed him with a shockwave and never got Yardovich clone so I’ll just have to wait till end game.
Yeah but I'd rather save up on frog coins for items I want, anyways the trick was to unequip everything from everyone because he only seemed to do the swallow animation after you hit him a few times, just guarding made him spam other attacks. It's funny how Peach's was so vain.
Why did they have to make this so fricking autistic? I literally had to do it in handheld mode because the wireless controller has shit input lag
Whoa whoa whoa! Is that really true? I play using a Pro Controller for most games
The lag is more so from playing on a TV, assuming you're not playing on a monitor, then the actual controller itself
I’ll give the game a try in handheld mode, even if my shitty joycons are drifty
I've had the same I problem but cleaned under the rubber part of the Joycon today with a Q-tip and alcohol and it's fixed for now. Handled mode is comfy, I was worried the UI would be too small but it's just about right.
Why does nobody own furniture
My friend couldn't find Samus and then realized he was looking for her in Peach's bed instead of the guest room bed. Gonna be thinking about that for a while now.
There's no way it's $60, right? It's just a reskinned SNES game. Why wouldn't you just emulate it?
>a shitty 12 hour rpg
no, it's really not. It was a shit RPG for its time and the only 'good' thing was that it was an RPG with Mario in it
All they changed was making things slower and some new 'updated' graphics which look even fricking worse.
no, its a embryonal stage rpg
feels like a shitty iphone 2.99 indie rpg app
t. pirated the nsp
My biggest complaint about the remake is that they made it so you can't jump on the wall mounted objects anymore in Mushroom Kingdom. Let me climb the house walls you fricks!
Yes it's one of the best game on the SNES
Why is nintendo still not making a hard mode for their mario
Yeah, you'd think Mario Maker would indicate people want hard modes.
You cant just expect 30yo neckbeards who have played mario since they're toddlers and kiddie to have the same skill
THAT'S WHAT MUTLTIPLE DIFFCULTY OPTION IS FOR
>piss easy for morons
>easy for children
wow nice difficulty options, im overwhelmed
THATS WHY A HARD WOULD BE GOOD
RETAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD
bro I was agreeing with you from the start
Oh cool
Is there a way to fix cutscenes playing slowly on ryujinx?
Yes. Download Yuzu and transfer your save file over.
does anyone know if the little Kefka reference is still a thing?
there was a Kefka reference?
He's talking about Culex
In the original japanese, one of the answers in the trivia section of the Bowser's Keep was Kefka, but it was changed in the US version.
I don't know it's a cute adventure, I can't imagine regretting playing it regardless if full price or not
free on ryujinx so no.
vulkan or opengl for yuzu?
vulkan for ryujinx
use the latest build. they fixed the lighting issues
sex with Culex
>Get attack scarf from Super Jumps
>No mention of getting 100 from dog after.
Is the Super Suit removed, moved elsewhere, or does he not mention 100 jumps until you do it?
>or does he not mention 100 jumps until you do it?
This
Ah, well I'm too much of a rhythemlet to get it but good to know.
He doesn't say anything about 100 jumps until you actually do it.
Paid $80 on snes release, I'll pay $60 for a better version.
Damn rpgs were so expensive back then. That's how much Chrono Trigger cost when I got it for christmas. It's the main reason that I never bought Phantasy Star 4 because it cost $100. I rented PS4 plenty of times though, but rent money I spent probably amounted to $60. Only reason I ever got to own a boxed copy of Final Fantasy 3 (6) with the instruction manual is because I bought it for like $20 at Blockbuster. That was back when they were replacing their 16bit shit with PS1 games.
super jump is way easier to do in this game
how are people having trouble with this
the rumble from controller alone makes it very easy
30 was easy, just practiced on Goomba's by Mario's house.
Timing is slightly weirder for me. In the original I can time it by when Mario lands on the enemy. For some reason, in the remake it’s easier to time based on Mario’s shadow, which isn’t possible in certain areas.
So did they actually add anything or did they just censor shit? I think I recall the direct mentioning more superbosses. Is that it?
Boss rematches in post game that are "get guard timing right or die" and Culex gets both a 2d battle for his first fight and a 3d model for his post game rematch.
What exactly has been "censored"?
The only actual censorship I can think of is that they got rid of Valentina's boob jiggle when you hit her. Some of the names have been changed, but that seems like more of a translation thing. And they got rid of the "who do you think you are, Bruce Lee?" line, maybe because kids probably wouldn't get it?
They got rid of it because it was bullshit made up by Woolsey, this translation is more accurate, thus Culex going on about how you being 3d is weird.
To be fair, her breasts jiggling like that in 3D would have looked weird. The names are more in line with the original names, and referencing real-life people was just part of Woolsey's fetishes.
Boss rematches, Mallow, Geno and Bowser each got a new weapon.
it's like $34 if you download from japan
I somehow never played the original, so I'll be emulating that when I get my Steam Deck instead
Hmm, been wanting to get back into SMT V after blowing through this, have had an RPG itch that's only half getting scratched now. But I'm not one for long games anymore. Either that or I might try Ara Fell because it keeps intriguing me...
I feel like they fricked the timing of some of the weapons. I was really good in the original with the cymbals, frying pan, and star shot but I can’t seem to get the timing right anymore.
Re-learn them via exclamation mark.
I played the game multiple times when I was kid. Its burned into my brain.
So did I, adjusting isn't that hard.
So silly to not have a season pass or dlc in 2023. Nobody is going to remember this fotm
>Is it worth the 60 dollar price tag?
Nah, just download a snes emulator and the rom. It's pretty much the exact same shit.
>buying games
Why do so many homosexuals keep doing this?
Because they aren't brown.
I'm finally at a point where I can buy shit without looking at the price tag. Stay poor.
>wasting money is... le based....
What's to waste? There's infinite amounts of it. The only thing you are limited in is time...
So how'd you get rich?
If there's infinite amounts of money why aren't there infinite frog coins
I failed to reply to one of those "your mom will die in her sleep" posts.
Video games go by different rules, though Or not; it's not hard to farm frog coins
Now I wonder if there's a market for crypto scams ripping off video game currencies. Anon you're riches are rubbing off on me, thank you ideas are already coming to my head.
>45 super jumps on my first try
I don't know what you nigs are complaining about
>hard stuck at 16 super jumps
I'm ngmi bros
Why does no one like Mallow again?
He was dogshit in the original.
Everyone crying about the gameplay changes should see the postgame boss rematches where most attacks are instant kills that bypass all armors altogether and need frame-perfect blocking to survive.
>everyone crying about the game being too easy should see the postgame where the game is too hard
i just want a balanced rpg where normal encounters range from easy-mid (like just taking solid damage and needing to heal every now and then) and boss fights are tough where party members can easily die but not 'do it correctly or you get party wiped'
the thing I like about Mario & Luigi RPGs is it's not just navigating menus.
each attack has execution and you're not just tanking damage and then healing (I always considered this bad design, immersion too like why the frick would your badass character just stand there like a dipshit and not dodge, block or counter?)
so in Mario & Luigi you can actually play through the whole game without taking damage if you're skilled.
Is Mario RPG the same? do you have real time defensive options to avoid all damage with skill?
Yes. (in the remake, you need to swap the button type to B) In RPG, each of the 4 face buttons handles a different combat command: items, basic attacks, specials, and defensive option. All attacks and specials require command inputs to boost them in some way, and defending requires you to press A or B to block or parry single target attacks. This game is where Paper Mario and M&L games got their ideas from, since they are all spiritual sequels to SMRPG.
I thought so.
so you can use perfect parrys in this. that's cool.
Superstar Saga was perfect about this but the later M&L games turning special attacks into full-blown minigames that go on for longer and longer with each game about makes me want to kill myself.
Mario and Luigi games seemed like they would be fun at first. I loved Superstar Saga. But then the puzzles got more tedious, and because of how cheap they were to use I was always using Bros. items or attacks in battle to do the most damage. And just as you said, in the later games that shit just dragged out more and more to where it was a total slog. I don't know why some RPGs go so slow. IT'S MATH, speed it the frick up!
in dream team some boss fights felt like they were taking too long because of this.
>the good
- being able to switch party members is great and encourages swapping out and using all the characters
- the music is incredible, and being able to switch between OSTs is great
- lots of positive QoL improvements
- post game bosses are a refreshing challenge
>the meh
- team attacks are kind of underwhelming
- the game is way too easy now with splash damage
- the balance is still all kinds of fricked with equipment
>ctrl+f easy
>34
>ctrl+f easier
>17
>ctrl+f difficult
>20
>ctrl+f hard
>30
Why are difficoomers like this?
If you don't challenge me, your product is worthless shit for gays.
What's the timing on super jump inputs? I thought it ws when you contact the center of the sprite but that doesn't seem right.
I miss the card suit effects.
Me too. I suspect they were cut because of Eurocuck gambling autism. It's amazing the casino is still there, but they had to replace the blackjack game with a memory game, and the fact that the character cards don't even have the suits on them is why I believe this.
the spade symbol is ruined now
your brain is ruined now
Same. I also blame Europe.
Yeah it's like those two games but kinda better
game has god tier pacing. you never get bored
I played the original a few years ago. To someone who hasnt played it, I would say the remake is not worth it even if it was free. If you want a jrpg play octopath traveler 2 or sea of stars. This is just a shitty mobile game tier rpg.
I'm so pleased by this remake. It's incident free. People are just happy it was well done and that's kinda where the discussion ends.
The one big complaint I have with the game, aside from the difficulty, is the UI. They really botched it on that end. Not in usability, but aesthetically.
I've beated Booster and added Peach to my party and now I'm supposed to talk to Frogfuci--I mean Frog Sage again, but he's whining about wanting a snack. I'm actually stuck. Am I supposed to find a cricket or something?
After you get peach, you're supposed to return her to the castle. Then you talk to Frogfucius and he'll tell you to go to star hill. you can get cricket jam to bring to him for a reward later
I don't get it, I return to the castle and nobody says anything, I go to Tadpole Pond, and Frogfucious just laments about. Check. Where is this cricket jam?
If you have peach as a permanent party member (check her room, her handmaid should be posing as her), and Frogfucius isn't talking about star hill, then star hill is unlocked, and you go get the star there to proceed. The jam requires you to take the cave in land's end under the bridge minigame, which takes you to a pipe that gets you to a high up chest in the kero sewers.
Nevermind, found the cricket pie. Like I was supposed to remember that that's why Mallow was there in the first place.
He mentions it after you get his coin back, you can get that pie before you go to the sewer
no.
post torrent magnet.
I want to believe this is a Jecht Shot reference from the FFX intro.
>intro
No it's a reference to me using the Jecht shot with Tidus in every match because I actually unlocked it
Import the Japanese version. It's $40 and does have English text.
I don't think it's worth $60 at face value, but I'm willing to (and did) pay that to reward a faithful remake, that did bonus content well without changing anything substantial, and in the hopes that new games that build upon SMRPG (not necessarily a sequel, but more collabs between square and nintendo that work).
congratulations dipshit.
you just did the complete opposite.
you gave your money to square the trash company behind the cancer that is FF7 """"remake"""""
Yes, moron, I gave them money for a remake that didn't go off the rails, like FF7R
And as long as there's effort like that in the future, I'll reward that with my patronage too.
Nah, Squenix has already been paid by Nintendo for this remake. Nintendo is raking it in, because Nintendo didn't even need to go to the bank for this to be made. This was made in Unity by a side team using old rendering techniques. Environmental shadows don't even cover Mario when he walks on them.
>all the post-game bosses including Culex appear in the epilogue before the credits
I'm glad everyone that wasn't part of the Smithy gang got a happy ending
SNES version is free.
its good, but its the same fricking game.
even easier with how timed hits can affect all enemies, you've got a supermove that fills just by playing and deals frickhuge damage. Also as the original the game is quite short.
But hey, its your 60 dollary doos
>its the same fricking game.
Thata the point. The original is like 30 years old and new players aren't going to go back to it.
Did you want FF7R?
>remake isn't faithful
>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
>remake is faithful
>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
I wish I received 60 dollary doos every time I read the phrase "even easier" in reference to this remake.
>but its the same fricking game
Would you trannies make up your fricking minds on how you want a game remade?
>make up your fricking minds
Its almost like they're different people anon
>how you want a game remade?
I don't want old games remade
I WANT NEW GAMES YOU TRIPLE Black person
So do I, and I also enjoy when old games get a touch-up and released on current hardware.
You're the problem.
Ah yes, everything that isn't your personal demands is a "problem".
and now you think we're getting mario rpg 2 or any continuation of the story anytime soon?
NO, BECAUSE DOING SO WOULD REQUIRE MORE EFFORT THAN REUSING THE STORY, CHARACTERS, MUSIC AND GAMEPLAY OF AN OLD GAME AND GIVING IT A NEW PAINT OF COAT
AND SLOPPERS KEEP SLOPPING
stay mad poorgay. I am gonna buy 2 more copies just to spite you.
I pirated it on my hacked switch, seethe.
cool argument, zoomer Black personcattle more buzzwords that make you seethe.
I'll never understand your kind, who talk about how much you hate something from one side of your mouth while proclaiming how you get and play them anyway and you're sticking it to The Man from the other side.
because is still a nice experience to get for free, what's so hard to understand.
its not an experience worth 60bux tho
For you, maybe.
EVERYTHING I HATE IS MY BUZZWORDS! FEAR THEM AND DESPAIR! AROOOOOWWWRRRR! AROOOOOOWWWWWRRRRR!
If it sells well, I'd say there's a good chance of it since the director has always wanted to make one. But if everyone pirates it or cries on message boards about games they'll never play, I don't know if it will sell well enough for the company to notice. Nice work.
Fair point.
its false flaggers and FF7R Black folk.
this is the golden standard for remakes.
The turnaround on the FF7Remake has been an interesting turn of events.
people always hated it. it's always had the same audience of autistic KIngdom hearts and nomura fans being the ones to defend it.
literally no one in their right mind complains that a remake of a great game is "too faithful".
>Oh frick it's all too perfect, there's too many things I love and not enough stupid bullshit and skitzo egomaniac dev intrusions who they they know better.
>please put a bunch of contrived juvenile writing changes in and unfaithful disgusting fetish shit from out of control art directors on the project.
I'm just thinking about how my friends went from being excited about FF7R to still being excited about it gameplay-wise, but really hating the direction the story took.
Also hurts them in that they don't think any there's any malicious feelings behind the remake, just the developers really thinking they can one-up the original but that this isn't it.
Nothing under the Final Fantasy 7 name has ever been able to recapture what made FF7 itself so good. The "Compilation" is rubbish.
I know, which makes FF7R even more depressing. Imagine making something the fans have clamored for a long time, and then pull the ol' bait and switch.
And the worst part, again, is that they probably didn't do that out of malice. They really thought they'd be able to one-up one of the greatest games they've ever made.
Nah, there was malice in there. There's always more hate from a creator to their own audience than anyone wants to admit it.
It just feels bad man. At this point in time, hearing the word remake is going to give gamers trust issues unless it's Nintendo remakes.
Works both as a way of showing what he does, and as a way to get stuff you otherwise couldn't access.
There are plenty of mods of FFVII exactly the same but with some better graphics applied for the people who wanted the remake to be that. And people constantly whine and cry about remakes and remasters no matter what the company does, so might as well do something different instead of just stapling HD graphics onto the original game.
Problem is they failed to communicate that FF7R is in actuality an entirely new game using FF7's setting and characters to tell a different story from the one they're used to. Those never tend to end well, especially if you were walking in thinking it was going to be a remake/remaster.
I liked FF7R and this remake (minus the slowdowns).
I pushed Culex's shit in in 30 turns.
I just now learned you can use the map to fast travel while in a area. It even has destinations, like going to the factory right away instead of walking all the way there.
My dumb ass has been walking everywhere.
Wait really? How?
Go to menus and then your map. That's how you can jump more quickly to areas.
Was it autism?
Definitely the ‘tism.
>Likes trains
>Bug collector
>Spergs out about losing his Mario doll
>Doesn’t understand others emotions (Peach crying and her general disgust for him)
>Won’t try new things without encouragement (cake scene)
>Awkward when someone does like him (tried to get away from Valentina)
This dude has an entire history with a family how the frick
What did she mean by this?
>the scene in Marrymore where Mario and Bowser accidentally barge into her and send her wedding accessories flying
I've fantasized about them also scattering the rest of her clothes across the room and leaving her completely exposed and embarrassed since I first played this when I was 6. I should see if anyone wants to illustrate my near-lifelong dream, but the Ganker drawthreads are completely unusable.
Find a decent artist and make it happen anon, don't let your desires go unfulfilled
I won't give up. It's just kind of hard to explain my request concisely. I feel like I'm rambling whenever I talk about it for the context I want.
Frick...
turn on anti-aliasing so I can see what this game SHOULD look like pls.
Who is the character who wishes to be the world's greatest treasure hunter? I've never met an NPC who expresses any desire like that.
I think it’s the toad shopkeeper in Moleville that sells you rare items
Makes perfect sense.
>get fricking oneshot in the boss rematch
what the frick
Which one? They all have gimmicks that you can generally figure out pretty easily.
Booster was the only one you outright need to out-stat by stacking speed as high as you can keep up with his turn count AND kill his goons ASAP.
Why are Mario RPGs the only fun jrpgs?
>music
>timed hits
>whacky shit
I don't play many games, are there other RPGs with timed hits mechanics?
mother 3
No
I'm past where I played as kid. I have faint memories of another kid's save file but the Lovecraft town is something I almost forgot, and I have a ghost ship to look forward to, I is having fun.
Play it on emulator
Don't pay for media.
I think its bullshit that Luigi is nowhere in this game.
So can you rematch the rematches, or are they one and done?
Culex at least because the game keeps score on how many turns it takes to beat him.
>End game at level 21
>Notice rematches pay no exp
>Immediately grind up to level 30 for Culex round 2.
>Johnny becomes complete chump.
Will find Culex shortly.
I'm playing this now on the switch having never touched the SNES version. Is it supposed to be this easy and boring?
Paper Mario is so much better imo
Its many peoples first RPG and dubbed babies first RPG for a reason.
For Culex round 2, should I focus on him/ignore the crystals?
Nevermind, got him. Focused on him but all target attacks eventually got him. Beat in 30 turns. Now to stomp Smithy again.
Favorite shot of the game.
Johnathan Jones, Lord of the Tang Sea.
Such a great character. Seeing him a little more alive in the new graphics really made him pop. I love the reveal of what his whole deal is in the monster list, too, after wondering whether he was a shark or a guy in a costume for ages
If I'd have any Mario OC return and promoted to a party member for a sequel to Mario RPG, I'd have it be this guy.
I really like it, it looks cheap and it feels cheap, so I hope it didn't cost too much to make, more SNES games remade in this fashion please.
>Though Peek sales guy gives you pre Mallow only stuff for free.
Neat.
So after the game wraps up does the Geno doll still have deadly laser guns and shit still attached to it after the Star Spirit abandons the body?
It previously had a rocket punch capable of KO'ing Mario, so I'd say, "Eh, why not?"
