I remember stuff like this happening when my old GPU was dying years and years ago now, around 2005-2006? Playing games and having those weird coloured speckles on textures, having vertexes warp and stretch across the map so one corner of your character/gun would constantly be warping across the screen, or your vision being blocked by gigantic polygons covering the screen.
Finally I knew it was dead when the desktop was just a hazy technicolor mess - I actually took a screenshot of it, but I can't find it any more.
