If you're actually playing Dante's Awakening and not Special Edition DMC3 was fairly notorious for its difficulty when it released. The original Dante's Awakening was purposefully made more difficult in the NA version. If you're playing the Special Edition you may want to practice and prioritize not getting hit because Normal difficulty in Special Edition is the Easy difficulty from Dante's Awakening.
I'm playing the HD Collection. Stuck at Beowulf for an hour. DMC1 was hard too(on Normal) but pretty managable once you learn enemies' tricks, also pistols weren't peashooters in DMC1 so at least I could do ranged damage.
I already played DMC4 and 5. I'm stuck at Beowulf though.
Beowulf was hard for me as well, and I had to take a break from playing it for a while in order to beat him-- air hike and the side-roll dodge saved my ass, and I think I might have finished him off with a Holy Water
What Style are you using? I found RG the easiest to use, personally.
Swordmaster
That might be why you're struggling, Swordmaster is good for using Rebellion's sword throw to interrupt his cage drop throw but otherwise you might be better off with a more defensive style like Royal Guard or even Trickster.
Sword throw is seriously fricking overpowered; you can fricking use it to interrupted Vergil''s DT
I want to have aerial rave my dude.
I mean that's fair but you're missing out on being able to null his attacks and just release's damage output, RG works really well on aggressive bosses like Beo and Vergil I find.
Beowulf has some pretty nasty aggression punishments. If you have to commit to the style (and I don't blame you, style exp was a mistake) try to limit your air time so you can actually run back.
I played trickster for the longest time because sky star is way too good for situations like these.
Beowulf is pretty difficult the first time since his only real weak point is his head. If you haven't, tri Agni and Rudra as their jumping slash hits horizontally in the air. Or if you're feeling spicy I find Beowulf is great practice for Royal Guard.
is DMC1 that much easier? I found myself fumbling the early platform sections after having played 3 first
Yes, no idea they made pistol charge locked to gunslinger in 3. I loved using it in 1 but in 3 I never used gunslinger besides for few minutes.
Gunslinger becomes much more viable with the style-switch mod or Freestyle mode in the Switch version since you can actually switch styles in real time. Kind of broken but it's a ton of fun.
1 on DMD is easier than 3 on DMD but way more enjoyable. 3's DMD is taken down a peg by one dumb decision: forcing every enemy on screen to DT as soon as you kill two enemies. I also found 3's DMD encounter design to just be less enjoyable with enemies like Fallen and Souls Suckers.
You unlock DT near the beginning of Mission 2 in DMC1, before the first boss, whereas you have to get about a quarter to a third into DMC3 before you unlock it, it's like four or five bosses in or something (including Vergil 1). Beyond that DMC3's combat is generally a fair bit faster than DMC1's from what I remember.
1 has harder bosses later on (nightmare and angelo 3) while 3 is mostly difficult at the start and then gets easier as it goes on. For normal, anyway,
Angelo 3 is the only really hard boss on Normal, I found (apart from Mundus' first stage, but that's basically a completely different game), Nightmare really isn't that bad so long as you have Rolling Blaze. I guess Nightmare 3 is a fair bit tougher but I wouldn't put it above the hardest bosses in 3.
I didn't know what abilities to get the first time in 1 and didn't even know ifrit could parry angelo as well or whatever was going on with nightmare's cores. I had a red core for nightmare 3 and it took like 30 minutes because I didn't have rolling blaze or vortex which, as I learned in hard and DmD, were op as frick. Also barely did any of the special missions that you need to backtrack for because I hate them.
Yeah the secret missions sucked in DMC1, no mission select and costing yellow orbs when you die was shit.
I didn't find this out until years later but one of them gives you an item that lets you stop time by consuming some of the devil trigger. You can keep it and use it in NG+ as well, kinda neat.
nightmare just has a terrible, terrible camera
Beo is relatively simple iirc, he's just tough and dish out a lot of damage so choking on him is a pain.
You can avoid his melee moves by double jumping and helm breaker his eye when he's done slamming the ground. Just don't be in the air when he's blinded and swipe around
Sword throw or stinger can launch the cages back in his face, getting rid of them means him charging around got less dangerous too.
I don't know if the PC is using the original version or the SE version but the original had fricked difficulties where Normal is actually Hard, etc.
Yes
I just played through this for the first time ever a couple weeks ago, and if you haven't played any action games before its a bit of a learning curve but you'll get over it quickly, I promise you
Focus on using Rebellion and its beginner combos to start, as far as hurting enemies is concerned, jump is your absolute best friend and can save you from 90% of all bad situations
>Is Normal intended difficulty for a first playthrough(on PC)?
Isn't that for every game? DMC on pc is hell, even I had cramps due kb use 5 minutes in, still beat it tho
THE FLINCH IN YOUR EYE
CALLS YOUR BLUFF
A JUSTICE RAGE FOR ALL TO FEEL
WITH INNOCENT CRIES AND HATRED SQUEALS
Will we ever see Patty again?
In DMC6 as third or fourth playable character.
ONE STEP, ONE BREATH
YOU'RE UNDER MY KNIFE
You serious? Normal mode is really easy.
Equip agni and rudra and attack his weakspot with it
it's just kind of one of those games that isn't worth becoming good enough to beat it. whole series is terrible
