Nothing wrong playing 4-5 for the gameplay and skipping the story.
I just replayed first two games on Xenia and they are fine not clunky at all especially in 60fps and with FSR/resolution scaling. Second game especially aged really well,some Hollow sceneries look really fricking good even today.

All of them are playable on Xenia from first game up to Judgment. Use Xenia Canary and patches to disable bloom,motion blur if u want, fix some graphical glitches and shit like that. Then use resolution scaling and unlocked framerate.

Its a functioning pc version with kbm support and everything. Just started the campaign yesterday and it's honestly crazy, pretty much a working pc port
Only downside is it doesn't save your rank or exact progress. But every campaign level is unlocked anyway so you can just pick up where you left off that way

One thing that really stood out to me is they actually bothered to have blocking and characters moving in the cutscenes. It's random CSI episode cinematography but at least they put in some effort. Seems like most 8th gen games just do the flat shot/reverse shot with moving mouths that looks like total dogshit (Tushima hugely suffered from this)
E Day is welcome because the multiplayer in Gears 4 and 5 would always use locust skins the minute they got added lol or old COG skins too none of the new shit.
All e Day needs for multiplayer is to give us an option for hammerburst, retro, and chainsaw lancer, and maybe introduce a new mode for large scale combat ala the original idea for gears.
