Is there a deeper reason for this?
Even regardless of games, early-mid 2000s felt sunnier, both IRL and on camera (think of early Avril Lavinge videos or something, it's a whole thing I could write out but whatever), but games were clearly a huge part of what set the mood. Feels like some sort of weird alternate reality.
>Is there a deeper reason for this?
probably just developers wanting to show off water physics
This. Gotta admit, there's something inherently comfy about a beach level. Probably my favorite was the Phantasy Star Online beach levels, where you could find hidden alcoves of items, or those little sidequests where you could go out at night for special parties. I miss that game.
Real water physics have never been tried. Even in Sunshine, it was just a basic particle effect. Developers now are still too scared to try and have realtime fluid simulations.
What would even be the added value in adding realistic physics to a game unless it's directly tied to gameplay? Fake water systems are good enough most of the time, plus there are much more important tech features to integrate like working fricking mirrors that devs still struggle with to this day.
What moronium are you huffing?
mirrors are just a fun aesthetic thing you look at for 5 seconds. water physics can enhance gameplay and visuals a frickton. you see sea/lakes in every game basically for a long time.
What about Hydrophobia
sea of thieves
in Subnautica, the "water" is open air with low gravity, low draw distance and green, blue or black skyboy.
hold up are you saying they didn't put real water inside my computer?
I watched a video with Subnautica devs about this. it's easier put everything in the lowest gravity, with fake bubbles in the first person view. One of the devs explained it's impossible create realistic simulations of the physics of a single water droplet in a regular PC, faking with low gravity in "air" is better.
>water physics
>sixth gen consoles
didn't the sunshine devs humblebrag about FLUDD physics or some shit?
It wasn't so much physics but rather just making water look as good as possible, since it required good textures and meshes
the market wanted western slop like slop of war and slop of duty
God of war was kino low t gay
I think he meant gears of war, my based moron
Gears of war 1-3 is also incredibly high t and kino, low t gay
it's basically high octane high manliness re4
Because late 90s to early 2000s was full of soul.
It wasn't just about sunny. It was developers and hardware generations. Finally they can keep trying out their new ideas whether it's flexing some island paradise or fiery volcanic regions and anywhere in between. Quite frankly
take me back
this is what that hill looks like now
Soulless
So you can basically still get the photo if you show up early in the morning on a sunny day and adjust your exposure
yes, that'll turn it all back into grass
Feel old yet?
Those look nothing alike. The clouds in the second picture are in completely different spots.
Clouds move you idiot
morons
I think my IQ dropped after reading this post
mu-soul
this looks like something sam hyde would record himself infront of a greenscreen
Games for that feel?

Here ya go.

fricking zoomers.
How is it still so powerful?
It's a cultural touchstone. If you had a computer during that era you saw that wallpaper at least once, and it's nice enough that a lot of people didn't change it. Even if you changed it on your own computer, you just need to scoot your chair over to the guy next to you and there it is again on his screen.
Jaded Califonian fricks taking over. Notice how all these games are japanese?
Jak & Daxter had beaches too.
didnt they hire one of the sonic guys
One of the most important ones, Hirokazu Yasuhara, the level designer for the Genesis games.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hirokazu_Yasuhara
In an interview, that piece of shit Yuji Naka doesn't call him by name and says he was quite useless.
For what reason.
He stopped working on the games, and did very little for Sega for 6 or so years. After he was fired, he only got the job at Naughty Dog due to nepotism.
Wait, he worked on THE Floigan Bros. game? What a fricking legend.
> Jak & Daxter (Naughty Dog) was only good because they hired some Japanese developers
Western studios were never even good in the first place, grim.
Graphics had no reason to advance beyond sixth gen (Dreamcast/PS2/Gamecube/Xbox).
Everything beyond that is unnecessary extravagance that has made games worse.
wrong source games like Dark messiah are peak visuals
i wish they used modern hardware to make games that look like this game but with higher resolution everything
i think the main problem is the modern graphic techniques used
Wasn't this just a result of games being able to depict water surfaces more accurately in that console generation, so they put a lot of them on beaches to show it off?
This.
moronic thread.
No there was a definite trend for summer, sporty, jovial oriented culture. It wasn't just in video games.
you couldn't make believable looking horizons in older gens. draw distance and skybox technology wasn't good enough.
>you may not know this but summer only actually existed between the years of 1998 and 2002
What a moronic Twitter take. I don't care if it's a joke.
forget that let's hit those showers
washed out colors/color filters became popular for some reason
What are some modern not Mario games with decent sized beach levels or scenery?
Depends on how you define modern but Yakuza 3 is all about the beach, 6 too
This has always felt like a weird observation to me because it hinges on Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X both existing.
Those are games made by the same company sharing a lot of key staff members, not to mention a lot of Kingdom Hearts's initial themes and ideas regarding dreams and traveling to different worlds was reminiscent of FFX, it's no wonder they put you on an island with Tidus and Wakka at the start of the game.
As for the others it's like... Sonic almost always starts in some kind of coastline level and Mario I guess did happen to have a summer vacation theme for its game around this time.
But like that's basically it, there aren't many more notable examples of "summer vibes" in games from this era. I guess you could classify Wind Waker too?
Idk man, you also have pokemon R/S/E
Gta Vice City
DOAX
Chrono Cross
Wave Race 64/Blue Storm
Hydro Rush
Outrun 2
Not to mention games with prominent beach stages like DOA3, Tekken Tag and 4, Ridge Racer V, and so on
they sun was actually yellow and warm back then, sometime around 2012 it changed to the cold white sun we have now
Somehow true
Maybe we really did transition into a different reality in 2012.
I always felt like 2009-2012 was kind of a transitional era from the old world to the new world. iPhones and social media started to appear in those years and 2013 was when we reached the point of no return.
The 'Occupy Wall Street' movement felt like the turning point especially with the culture war shit but one of my peers insist it was always brewing up in the background
The only turning point in Occupy Wallshit was the lesson that groups are extremely easy to subvert and dissolve via ideological means. The banks and other corpotations learned that well and homosexuals praise them now for throwing rainbows on their logos. That's why the google trends for 'racism' reporting from places like the New York Times skyrocketed after it. It's why the US is so racially divided now after not being so in the late 90s/early 2000s. Back when juding someone on the content of their character was still a worthwile endeavor
Leftists have been seeding this shit for many years. I'd call the real turning point the Civil Rights Act which forced companies to get paranoid about racism.
Champagne socialists were infesting all educational and business institutions.
Wokism (progressism) is globalism's emergency button.
>old world
>new world
You obviously grew up around that time and have nostalgia glasses.
Every generation has a time period they pinpoint as the downfall. In 20 years, people will say 2022 was the last good year or something
Not that anon, but 2009-12 was by no means good, it was just not as completely fricked-up as it became later.
And I don't mean that on a "it went up on the fricked-up gradient" way, it changed categories of fricked-up, it jumped up a notch.
There’s already moron zoomies that say current year is the best every single year. They will 100% have nostalgia for “the good old days” before fortnite was neuralinked to their debit card through their brain stem.
Nta, but I think that both you and the nostalgiagays are right. Things get worse with every generation.
Demons are virtual and they affect reality through digital and especially internet, wifi and (3,4,5)g
I'm fricking telling you it was the Large Hadron Collider
It DID destroy the universe. Every universe which existed on a reasonable probability line was instantly destroyed the moment it was turned on, leaving us in a doomed timeline with broken laws of causality where statistically impossible events happen regularly.
You mean 2007
I've noticed that too, it really feels that way. It isn't just childhood, too, as I was already 19 by 2012, so that's not the reason.
I think I even had a copypasta about this written but couldn't find it.
Couldn't this be easily be confirmed/debunked by watching a movie from the 90's or something?
Yes but unfortunately such movies do not exist anymore
?
all old movies have warm yellow sun. go see for yourself
2012 is when I died and was resurrected into Cyrax, we are now in a higher vibrational plane as the solar system moves Closer to the black hole in the middle of our galaxy
This is the future you chose
No, Black folk, you're just fricking old and uneducated.
The retinas in your eyes degrade over time meaning all color fades greyer and greyer with age. The facts are even the games you thought look saturated out of control wasn't really that oversaturated and the games you think look grey now isn't overally washed out as you think it is.
The truth is most things colorful pander to autistics and kids and adults naturally transition to grey suits, cars, houses, etc because color degrades with them the more you age. In other words; color didn't change, it's always you that's what did.
Do you have a single fact to back that up or just talking out your ass? You call others uneducated but claim color dulls with age to a degree significant enough that it causes older people to prefer gray dull palettes. Wouldn't the case be the opposite, where they instead seek brighter more vibrant colors to compensate for their loss of perception? As happens with old sound engineers who dial up the treble due to the falloff of their ability to hear high end frequencies as they age? And what about the bright bombastic fashion of the 60s or 80s, or even the middle ages where they used shit tons of dyes?
There might be some truth to that but you're way overexaggerating because OP's pics still look vibrant and saturated.
>boot up nu-game
>looks grayscale and boring
>boot up old game
>colorful and awesome
Nah, you're just a homosexual. Before any other homosexuals claim nostalgia googles, it works with old games I've never played too. The only "new" games remotely exciting are fan translations of japanese shit I didn't get to play back in the day.
>Start New Game
>Cutscene
>Unskippable Tutorial
>Boot up Castlevania Rondo of Blood
>Coolest fricking intro
>Riding into a city being raided
>Fricking Death shows up to stop you
>You make him run like a b***h
>Walk through a city in flames filled with demons
>beating the shit out of each one of them
I unironically think it's one of the best introductory sequences in gaming.
Do you just ignore examples that contradict your point? Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a start
Name 5 good non-japanese games this year
I was comparing DMC to GoW with my friends the other day, the sheer awesomeness the japanese can input in their games was already above murrican's wildest dreams, the west was always the gay grayening of games.
Maybe if you are 50 and unhealthy that degradation kicks in. The answer is more likely the pollution levels in their area is a lot higher than in their childhood.
I can't confirm the world thing but it is proven that as you age the lenses in your eyes yellow making it harder to see various shades of blue.
In fact after one gets their lens replaced due to like a cataract surgery the new fresh lens will let you see blue at the same quality as a child.
your vision doesn't degrade like that
it only hits you in really old ages or you are a drug addict living the most unhealthy way possible
This is true.
This. All of you sad homies got to stop being pussies and start smiling 😀
the sun is not yellow, it's chicken
Maybe now you guys will believe in climate change?
no one cares moron
people were calling that out decades ago
why tf are you morons looking directly at the sun?
how are you getting your energy if not from looking at the sun?
I wasn't the only one who loaded up Sonic's and sometimes Big's Emerald Coast just to sit around by the lighthouse, right?
I definitely just "hung out" in Sonic Adventure. Game was peak comfy. Still is honestly.
>Game was peak comfy
That's usually the case with Sonic games' hubs, Unleashed being another great example.
The last Sonic game with soul.
Sonic Colors, Generations, and Mania are actual good games. Frick off
SEGA as a whole had the whole blue skies blue seas aesthetic going during that time.
Funnily, it's similar to the GameCube aesthetic a bit (hence, Dolphin).
So yeah, just look up Dreamcast games, a lot of similar vibes to Emerald Coast.
I am not into Yakuza much yet, but 8 gives me a similar feeling, actually.
For me, it was the Egg Carrier's pool room. I also remember spending a lot of time looking around the lab in the Mystic Ruins maze, thinking there was some way to unlock a metal sonic boss fight or something.
>Egg Carrier's pool room
Based. I really liked that room.
For me, it's Eggman's goon chamber
you have to go so out of the way to find this room and they put some much random shit in it, meanwhile in frontiers the main content is unfinished and reusing assets and animations from decade old games.
I think it was just the nearly complete lack of secret areas or interesting terrain to explore, with only a handful of exceptions. You do a 360 turn with the camera, and you've essentially seen all each island has to offer. All the items are usually just floating mid-air along with the smattering of floating level design spaghetti, so there's no reason to have hidden alcoves or caves everywhere. Basically, I can forgive the janky gameplay (since I know they'll never really improve it aside from a few minor touch-ups to say that they did) but for frick's SAKE can we PLEASE get some actual fricking open world level design in Frontiers 2? I beg you. Even that Big The Cat open world shitpost game from a few years ago was more interesting to explore than most of Frontiers' islands, and I'm not even kidding. I sincerely wish I was. The fact that pic related is STILL somehow relevant to 3D Sonic level design discussion makes me sick. And now that I think about it, it's actually worse than that now, because you can run around in a big wide open space like the top panel, but there's just no reason to since 80% of all the items you need are on "this shit" in the bottom panel.
Frontiers 2 desperately needs a SOVL injection into its art direction, too, to stay on topic. Like god damn I feel like I needed some Prozac playing Frontiers sometimes.
>but that's the direction they were going for
Yeah, and I'm saying it was dumb and bland. I want a Sonic game I feel like I want to escape to, not from.
The Goongeon
>be sea of thieves
>have nice fricking water
>have shit everything else
early Sea of Thieves PvP was pretty fricking fun just because of how bare bones it was, but Console gays kept getting shit on so they added homosexual HP mechanics and made the sword terrible to use.
SoT is still fun, and yes it has the best water.
double gunning has been nerfed so sword is pretty much what most people use now.
>summer existed between 1998 and 2002.
This is creepy because my most memorable summers (and memorable times in general) are from right around that time, probably up to 2004 though.
What happened during those years? Why were things so comfy and soulful?
you were 7 years old
But people across many age groups have the same thoughts. Most people seem to agree that the 90's and early 00's were the best time.
Do you have proof or are you just biased?
Most of the boomers I know hold the same sentiment. I think it was 2008 economic recession and unfunny clown show that is post 2012 politics that did it. Politics is a mess, the economy is a mess, life is harder than it was. Everything seems better then because we were happier overall then.
Climate Change. Now eat your bugs.
I'll give you a hint: You're using it right now.
You can't blame everything on dragon dildos.
These games are all the better for it, says I.
>went from bright sunny beaches to the brown piss filter a few years later
owari
>from optimistic new millennium filled with promise to depressed financial crisis in less than a decade
truly
The optimism died almost immediately with 9/11 and the war on terror. What was different is that people still tried to make the best with what they had rather than succumbing to the gloom and doom like people do now.
Ocuppy Wall Street triggered weaponization of the woke movement to maintain the lower class fighting each other, this is truly where the things went turboshit
YFW you realize all these places are based on the Okinawa islands. That's why every time Nips do beach anything it all looks kind of the same.
>that pic
Holy shit
please, if this babby mode blackwashing is shocking to you, go no further down the media rabbit hole
its a genuine infohazard, you will experience real no bullshit mental pain if you continue
What do you mean?
If you don't look at images like that you won't notice it happening irl & you'll be happy forever.
>closes it out with the single example of good casting in that whole image, getting the gigahomie from the green mile to play Kingpin
Black person you dumb
I know you didn't make that, effort is beyond you slacktivists, but you dumb
to be fair getting a black guy to play a character called black noir is fricking comedy
Sunshine is a great game and I don't care what homosexual detractors have to say about it due to getting filtered
>Black Noir
kek
>Kingpin
Only good example, everything else is shit
Black Noir is already a completely different character, it has nothing similar to the comics version anyway. I'm not excusing or defending it tho.
I thought it was based on hawaii or something since nips love them, of course island resort vacation shit will tend to have a similar feel
Psychic preparation from the collective unconscious before 9/11
Sorry. The Y2K era invented summer. Everything after has only been darkness, you zoomers wouldn't know.
It really does feel cold and dark now compared to the 2000s (I am 31). How the frick does that work?
World ended in 2012 and then when AI George Floyd made everyone forget covid fake out and hate the whine mate / Harambe
Not even joking we broke something
I'm 32 and I agree. Something went seriously wrong in the mid 2000's.
9/11 and the resulting wars in the middle east. The 90s were filled with optimism as we headed into the 21st century, but then everything got worse when we got there. It wasn't the era of peace and prosperity we thought it was going to be.
Maybe we really are in hell.
I think hell came here.
Can you guys think of other innate things that seemingly changed after the mid-2000s/2012 other than the sun color? Now I am really curious
One thing worth noting is that people sounded different. If you watch old news clips, I'm not sure how to put it into words but their speaking doesn't sound the way it does today. It sounds a little more refined with almost a slight accent to it. I don't mean a southern accent, California accent or anything like that. But there's a difference, and it sounds better in my opinion.
To add to this, people will say it's because with new generations, accents are going away because we're all connected. But I think there's more to it than that, because I've never heard anyone in real life no matter the age, sound like they do in those old clips.
>newscaster from 1989
>microphone from 1989
>audio is warped by being on an old VHS cassette
Man, you are dumb. The only thing that's actually different between then and now, in terms of how people speak, is we've had decades of the primary source of culture and slang coming from the rap community.
well that’s cos back then narrators and tv people were actually educated. the “trans-atlantic” accent, kind of like how reviewbrah tries to talk because he’s a 1920s nerd. now they just get some moron off twitter to narrate and it’s some moronic brown person with a mutt accent
I love those crazy super puffy 80's hairstyles, specially the stormer glam metal amazon hair much better than today's sidecut shit. If gaping the ozone layer is the price to pay I'm ok with it!
It's a real accent used by guys like Brent Spliner (on the rare occasion he isn't playing a character) and Orson Welles, one that seems to be going extinct.
As someone who's thinking about his past at 25, stores feel less lively except for like 2nd and Charles.
The world used to feel a lot less hostile.
>inb4 you're only saying that because you were a child
No, really, there used to be so much less vitriol and mass hysteria in the public discourse. Social media and normies getting access to the internet completely obliterated the public sphere.
It was obama and smartphones and social media/internet becoming a propaganda tool. Look at arab spring
Sky color.
what about it
yea, they are called mandela effects
like berenstein bears now berenstain
Because we're in fricking winter you moron lmfrickingao and because what few sunlight you could see during winter as a kid is now hidden by you working inside all day or walking in a labyrinth of buildings
And a bit of climate frickery making summers rainy like we live in Cambodia
It feels like that even in summer and I also work from home and go out, unlike say my university years
Nu-summer doesn't feel like summer, though. Summer used to feel relatively hot but welcoming and rarely had extended periods of drought, nu-summer feels like being trapped inside a car in the parking lot during summer.
Anon, you seriously need to detox from the internet. Go outside, touch some grass, you're spouting insanities.
Don't listen to this bozo, there's people outside. Grow your indoors garden, then you can touch grass without having to interact with people
>like we live in Cambodia
kek. Rainy summers have always been a thing in Colorado thoughbeit.
Nah the sky (And landmarks until the gubmint decides it needs to be pulled down for israelite gold) is one of the few things that don't really change much from generations.
It's social trends and sweeping changes to how people act that ultimately affects how we view the past. Not sure what "the darkness" means to you but I'll just use an example:
>9//11 happens
>Age of fearmongering starts
>Sensationalist news media
>Bunch of shit gets cancelled because "muh towers"
>Cover shooters and military shit becames super popular
>Counterculture of ironic journalism starts. Shit like Micheal Moore calling Americans fat warmongers (Which isn't wrong)
>Gobmint decides now is the perfect time for mass middle eastern migration
>Travelling anywhere becomes a fricking nightmare because of customs
>Fearmongering never went away. Media now overblows everything as some supervirus or war or terrorism
I know there's like jobs for people who watch social trends and how they affect culture. Even TV shows like Breaking Bad change society in big ways. It's fascinating and horrible at the same time even though I hated the 90s in retrospect I do miss the freedom we had and the fact we don't worship black guys but I'm rambling now
Well besides it being winter and air conditioning everywhere, the world was warmer back then. I remember the world being hotter to point I sweated everyday. I dreaded going outside as a kid.
Last year I think. I went to a nice one but the weather was cool 🙂
>102 here this last summer, hottest day on record for this area
>"It used to be warmer"
KEK reality is an infection that must be treated
I thought I was a schizo for noticing it
2002-2005 felt especially bright, real life had an orange tint to it that you only noticed once it had been gone for awhile
More air pollution, mainly from china and india.
only true answer
I do a lot of hiking and my weather eye is wide open and I noticed the quintessential summer vibe only happens right at the end of summer in recent years instead of around the time of thw solstice. 10-20 years is short term when the earths age is taken into account but it can feel like the end of the world to a human lifespan
It's Depression. Your perception has changed to match your feeling. Also you likely don't go outside as much as when you were a kid. Not to mention air conditioning technology has gotten better.
so how do I get rid of that
Amd (Age-Related Macular Degeneration). You shouldn't stare at the sun you stupid b***h lul
Because... Because it's fricking DECEMBER dipshit
You're all moronic. Even if I agree that things were better back then, the world (and sun) only look more cold and gray because you now wear glasses with blue light reflective glare. If you take them off, everything looks the same as it used to, including the sun. You probably didn't wear glasses as a kid, so of course it seems like things were brighter back then. Take your glasses off right now to test it if you don't believe me.
>t. four eyes anon

Everything went to shit the moment 2005 rolled around.
Even the photo/video there is all sunny and saturated. This feels like some sorta psyop I am going crazy
where did all the white people go? feel like they disappeared from america around 2010 or something kek
2005-2006 was kino though.
1998: pluto in sagittarius, neptune enters aquarius, uranus in aquarius. fire-air-air.
2003 uranus exits aquarius.
2008 pluto exits sagittarius.
2012 neptune exits aquarius.
current positions of outer planets are pluto in capricorn, neptune in pisces, uranus in taurus. earth-water-earth.
2024 pluto enters aquarius.
2026 uranus enters gemini, neptune enters aries.
2026 will be the first time the outer planets are purely fire and air since 2003.
Noted. Hopefully we'll get next-gen consoles in 2026 as well.
Are astrologists the original schizos? How did they recover from the discovery of the 13th astrological sign?
astrology is empirical. things can be determined to work or not work, by trying it out.
nasa etc have discovered a bajillion asteroids and comets and lots of clowns talk about how those are significant too. like shilling penny stocks and shitcoins.
the question for stocks and coins is whether price goes up. the question for astrology is whether it accurately models the world.
and it works. on twelve signs.
this ophiuchus shifting the entire system to divide into thirteen implies twelve sign does not work, which is demonstrably false. compare discoveries of asteroids which also don't work, contrast the discovery of uranus neptune pluto which do work.
back when you owned the entirety of your games, the culture was a carefree edgy radicool and shit was made not to lecture but to be fun and entertaining first and foremost
>girls gone wild
The TV ads always made those videos look like the craziest shit. I was so disappointed when I figured out torrenting in my adolescence and downloaded one only to find that they were the most boring porn videos imaginable
You didn’t really think they were selling XXX porn on cable tv did you? I thought it was pretty common knowledge that it’s just girls flashing their boobs. Now Traces of Death, that was a disappointing urban legend when I finally got the video.

It was such a good time but alas I was too young to enjoy it.
Who knows. Some say they went to another planet ( ^_^)
>there used to be so much less vitriol and mass hysteria in the public discourse.

But normies ARE social media and the public sphere. If anything they just said what was on their mind this whole time.
>But normies ARE social media and the public sphere. If anything they just said what was on their mind this whole time.
the point is internet access warped normalgays into rage filled idiots. well they were idiots to begin with, but they weren't as angry before.

God it's so soul
Graphics never needed to be better than FFX's

I miss wave race so much, bros. 64 and Blue Storm are both so fricking good. 64's OST is summer incarnate.
Whens the last time you guys been to the beach?
2018 but I wasn't really "at" the beach there most of the time. The last actual great beach experience was 2012.
I go to bow wow beach with my dog a lot
But I haven't been to the beach in a few years sadly
Last year. I had to spend this summer indoors if I wanted to graduate this year.
I live on a beach in Hawaii. Plenty of Jap culture but I get all the hapa piggu Hawaii/haole mutts. It's amazing. They're like asians but with sexier looking skin and big fat ass with big breasts with large nipples and hair that's made to be held firmly by a haloe (white) man. They're literally built for colonization by my below average length (and girth) white wiener.
Funny how the only believable part of this reply is the living on a beach part. Even though lots with a literal grass hut on the ocean front cost a million dollars or more that's way more believable than ever trying to claim that your racist chud incel ass would ever get laid. Even the ugliest Karen would glance over you and go for Tyrone in a heartbeat lol. Enjoy dying alone. Your blood line doesn't deserve to carry on
Holy seething shitskin batman
>when you have to fly away to remote islands to get laid
Super impressive anon. I’d love to see the kind of girls that have sex with some lying homosexual on Ganker.
>remote islands
Bro Hawaii is only like 4,000 miles from LA. Fricking idiot. That's what you call remote? Look at a map sometime so you won't embarrass yourself like this. Idiot. Try the COOK ISLANDS or Easter Island! Now that's a remote island and not some pussy shit vacation spot for old white people
Frick man, its been years.
Family goes every year.

I haven’t been to a beach in over a decade. I hate my life.
there are few games that feel like an actual hot summer day. Even those 4 games pictured are rather dark, look like a storm is coming up
Are you guys going Christmas caroling?
This song was the soundtrack of that era
?si=y1IKS_s4IRE7e624
I don't know if it's a psyop or something, but I always associate 2000s with sunlight.
I don't know why. Sunlight, clean skies, maybe a beach. Perhaps part of it is the Windows XP desktop theme and design in general, but I feel like it's not a full story.
Just thinking back to those times, especially the first half (2000-2006), I feel like there was literally much more sunshine (and I don't live in a sunny region at all), and generally things were more bright.
Now, some may equate it with childhood, and maybe that's partially true.
However, i was born in 1992, so I do remember at least ~5 years of the 90s, and yet I don't have this associatation. In fact, the 90s in my head are much more associated with something gloomy and atmospheric, while 2000s are sunny weather.
2010s don't conjure up such images, even if 2010-2015 were quite a happy time for me and I was still in Uni for most of it, so I still had summer holidays and loads of free time.
I know it's a total schizo post, but I never get to bring this up anywhere, so may as well do it here.
It's just media molding your perception. The same way the early 90s seem extremely dark and gloomy because of nirvana
I also associate it with more wildlife even within cities. I used to see hedgehogs, field mice, butterflies, bumblebees etcétera everywhere, now it's getting quite rare.
For me, it was Worms Blast
Don't remember when was the last time I saw a proper sunset (or a red sunrise). Used to get them all summer as a kid, even if I didn't leave the house

I liked listening to this everytime it played. 🙂
Many early morning spent watching those broadcasts. Damn shame I can't find shit online.
The sun definitely looked/felt different in the 2000s and prior. It's even more apparent if you look at old photos from the 60s or prior. The way the sunlight looks is just different, I don't know how to describe it. It was warmer. It felt warmer on your skin too. People's skin tones were also slightly different. It's almost like the sun got replaced with a flourescent lightbulb sometime after 2010.
And they say that global warming is fake
The difference is literally film stock vs digital pictures. They capture the light differently. FIlm has an innate glow, color bleeding and bloom that people associate with the past or movies.
Meanwhile, modern digital sensors take the picture/video as it is. More faithfully with none of those embellishments. Thats why you have glass filters for bloom to produce image aberrations such as film cameras.
Then you have obviously design and visual trends, like the modern trend of low contrast, naturalistic light, low saturation, almost like they forgot to grade the flat footage (marvel civil war, dune, etc)
false, summer existed for 2003-05 as well
2006 was the year Summer stopped
90's Xtreme culture was coming to an end and 9/11 hadn't fricked everything up yet
>THIS AINT NOTHING BUT A SUMMER JAM
Frankly I miss the milder summers and there being actual winters with snow lasting for weeks.
Fake Hawaiian vibes were pretty common in Japan at that time. Maybe that was part of the reason.
Michopa still looks best with a tan, though.
more like matingpress
Summer stops existing when school ends.
Just work from home my man
Still the same when all the days blend together.
Try doing something each day outside of vidya then
The world had more magic in the past because we had limited technology.
In the past: When planning a vacation, you could only learn about and plan it through travel guides, magazines, etc. Then you went to experience something you knew little about. Around your neck is a film camera and you had a finite amount of photos you could take. You thoughtfully took each photo and made sure it was special. You develop the photos and put them in a photo album to look back on.
Today: You can watch hundreds of videos and travel vlogs for whichever place you want to vacation to. In a few hours, you can learn more than someone from the early 00's and prior could in a month. When you finally take the vacation, you bring your phone and thoughtlessly snap random photos every 2 seconds, of every action you take, every food you eat, and you document the entire journey. Those photos and video all get stored on your laptop where you never look at them again.
This is of course one example of hundreds of ways technology has made the world less magical.
Smartphones and social media are the biggest mistake of the 21st century.
This is true, technology and the internet basically allows us to simulate experiences without leaving the comfort of our homes. I feel like this also explains why Zoomers go through brief periods of transforming their personality or worldview only to drop it and transform again a month later later. It's a mix of FOMO and social media allowing them to easily dip their toes in different interests or hobbies. Humans weren't meant to do everything in one lifetime, though. We've always dedicated ourselves to one or two passions, and a lot of Zoomers just end of having shallow, predictable takes on everything, but present little nuance or original contribution to anything.
I feel like its because most zoomers are teenagers or in their early twenties. Tgats when people are usually still figuring out who they are.
To be fair, crisis is what made social services popular. These days almost no one can afford a house or if they do, they struggle with money.
Internet became escapism from a shitty reality. Then we have cases like China that, instead of improving their mens lives they are literally fighting drawn fictional 2d girls KEK
Like, no man can live in a pod house, work 15 hours every day, have less women without becoming crazy so internet is escapism now.
There is a GOOD aspect of it though, its that kids these days learn the harsh reality faster, which is why teachers and college are seething, since the kids understood its better to have fun in your teens over spend your youth studying jailed for something that doesnt exist
This is why anime and gacha are so popular now. There is no fricking way you dont fall into depression if you watch TV.
Also kids are traveling, they just have no money so they are going with the flow
Like, man, when I was living in a big house (before covid fricked all my plans), I miss my minigym, walk around, go to the beach...I'm now back with my mother saving money, but you cant fricking tell me I want to make plans with my mother there and my moronic brother taking 70% of the space of the house, in a much tiny room.
Also travel became kinda dangerous with so muc immigration
I’ve always thought about this while growing up. The 90s had a sort of darkness to it, that’s the imagery I get when I think about that time period, but the 00s I always associate with a summer vibe.
Literally same
Just out of curiosity, how old are you? Because I'm 32 and I sort of get what you mean. I associate the 00's with summer too, so I guess in a way the 90's could be seen as darkness. But maybe I think that because the 90's are a bit more blurry to me memory-wise, considering I was born in 91.
It could also simply be because the media we grew up with had a summer vibe.
Did the real world end with 9/11?
It ended in 2009.
I always associate 2007 with world death.
2007-2008 still feel like 20th century leftovers to me tbh. 2008 had more in common with 1998 than it did with 2018. 2009-2012 was the turning point.
Agreed
It's 2012. The SJW identity politics dogshit didn't start to infest the Internet until 2012.
The "SJW/woke" boogeyman is more of a symptom rather than a cause. I believe that the big problem was the proliferation of iPhones and social media, which started in 2009 and crossed the event horizon in 2013. 2009-2012 is the last era I have any amount of nostalgia for, but it was definitely the turning point.
>2008 has more in common with 1998 than it did with 2018
lmfao no
And boomers thought the internet ruined everything and that it should've stopped with TV.
Nostalgia is a generational cycle
>2008 has more in common with 1998 than it did with 2018
>lmfao no
It absolutely did. The fact that iPhones were essentially nonexistent and social media like Twitter and Instagram hadn't yet taken over everything alone made it extremely different from pretty much any post-2012 year. 2008 is the last year that felt more like ten years before than ten years after IMO. 2009-2010 felt 50/50, and 2011-2012 were the first years that felt more like ten years later than ten years before.
9/11 was the mortal wound
The world ends and is replaced by a new one a lot. It ended in 1914, it ended in 2001, it feels like its been ending in slow motion since 2016.
2012
ME AND MY FRIENDS GET NO RESPECT...
They wanted to show the new lightning and shadow physics engines
This was always Sega's vibe
Nintendo and and Square were just coping their style
frick this homosexual shit.
WHERE ARE MY GLADIATOR GAMES
they just vanished, what the frick happened
water physics
It was. It used to be sunnier and hotter when I was a kid. I used to sweat a lot everytime I went out. Nowadays I can go outside without issue. Sometimes I even wear long sleeves in summer.
>t. exas
When is the last time you've been outside? Take your meds.
I'm at the point where I'm just going to live like it's the early 00's and prior. I'm sick of most new games, new movies, etc. I'm going to start a physical collection of the things I loved in the past. Get CDs and DVDs, etc. I also plan on getting a film camera and may even downgrade to a dumbphone. There seems to be a sort of anti-smartphone movement and I'm all for it.
There are a ton of reasons why the world has gotten worse, but modern technology and smartphones has destroyed so much. The only way to go back, is by going back. Set an example. Get rid of the modern stuff that's ruining everyone.
I think it's wearable social media that has ruined society. Everyone is driven by their own personal algorithm that shapes their perception so that there's no real common ground anymore. In a way everyone is living in their own personal reality.
I'm rooting for you Anon! I hope you start a movement (^o^)/
Same here. I watch tapes of old tv broadcasts on an old computer connected to a tube monitor.
Always funny seeing this kind of moron shit. Yeah buddy, if you buy old shit that's on the verge of falling apart you'll be happy!
The correct way is to merge the old and the new. I've got a high end CRT, I barely use it. Why? Because I can get 90% of the same picture on my 4k monitor, and the actual picture is almost twice the size, because at 4:3 it works out as 35 inches. I can emulate everything I want, no loading times, no disc changing, I can fast forward through slow menus.
Owning CDs isn't going to make you any happier. Just download the MP3s, homosexual. DVDs had shit quality, you can get the BD rip for free.
Consumerism won't make you happy. Consumerism rots humanity, instead of elevating it. Just appreciate the things you have and try to create interesting new ones and connect with other people. That's what people tried to do back then, they tried to be part of something.
I'm not telling you to buy things. You/that guy are the one trying to buy things, old junk because you're afraid you can't just not waste your day on social media if you have access to the internet.
You know what life was like before the internet? Boring. That's why people went out and did things.
>Why? Because I [lists modern conveniences i dont give a frick about]
KWAB
I don't even know what that means. Go buy some laserdiscs, homosexual.
>he doesn't know
k b
moron just because it does not look perfect doesn't mean you should go out of your way to buy a heavy shit tube that only works for playing old video game consoles that are dying
you don't need to own a vhs player to enjoy old movies
But I enjoy them more on VHS. Its like listening to music on vinyl, its a matter of taste.
>he would rather watch the worn to shit vhs tape than the 4k rescanned film
suits you
Yeah, it adds a surreal dream-like feeling to the footage. Modern movies look too real, they're bland. The only thing better than VHS is grainy film.
>grainy film
That's what 4K scans of classic movies give you, the best way you'll ever see them. Most of the time, they preserve grain while adding HDR color grading to surpass even the original theatrical showings when they came out.
>Not watching Aliens VHS edition
/t/ have it. It change everything.
but grainy is fine too
the Alien in question
>while adding HDR color grading to surpass even the original theatrical showings when they came out.
No thanks, I don't want a remaster. Don't care for modern color grading.
Absolutely based. I've kind of been dabbling into that myself, as well, just never realized it to that extent. Been buying a bunch of the games I missed out on when I was a teen brand new sealed when the current retro game price situation hadn't started, bought the first three albums of Paramore physically and still get all my music by ripping CDs on my hard drive. Getting older movies on DVD has been a blast, there's that certain charm to all that preparing you used to do back in the day and you don't need to keep up monthly payments in order to have access to the stuff. We've even been digitizing some old VHS stuff with my partner.
80's-00's were peak comfy culture and entertainment (60's for music)
Some other anon the other day pointed out the amount of gritty and dark urban core vidya in the mid 00s, think the transition from these sunny games had to do with the y2k optimism that was shattered by 911
>think of early Avril Lavinge videos
oh frick off you stupid zoomer homosexual
Avril Lavigne is for millennials. Zoomers listen to Katy Perry and Billie Eilish.
you think zoomers listen to avril Lavigne? Ive got really bad news for you anon kek
Everything can be directly attributed to:
>Occupy Wall Street (oy vey the people are on to us, lets pit them against each other)
>Proliferation of Social Media and Smart Phones (over-socialization)
>Obama Second Term (Upped the Propaganda, rise of race baiting— coincides with OWS)
Of all people I actually agreed with Tucker Carlson on what he said about how everyone was a lot more seemingly unified during Occupy Wall St and then as soon as ~~*(they*~~) realized it, identity politics massively exploded onto the scene with then everybody going back to being at each other's throats. Of all people he really ended up activating my almonds on that one
summer fricking sucks now, way too hot and too many fires
we need to return to relatively open communities
It's like a rule
Beach levels (Hotel Resorts included) just feel nostalgic and happy.
Sameway with how Winter/Ice levels feel comfortable and happy.
Sewer levels are a pain, same will go for Jungle levels.
China levels have some gimmick.
Egypt levels have that sort of music and quicksand, usually okay but you want to get over them quick.
?si=CZg9WO8eM1qy2faF
^ Honorable Mention
Jungle is peak nostalgic and comfy though. Especially if it has a sunset.
See: Oddworld, DKC, Tarzan for the PS1
then = games were beautiful, lush, a lovely place to be in
now = pain, sadness, drab, reused assets, loveless, unfulfillment
it's that simple.
I think they were all impressed by 3D water effects so they all wanted a game set near water.
Mario sunshine still has the most fun looking water ever put in a game, Nintendo did this game so dirty because we are never getting that ridiculous difference in visuals between console generations again and they wasted the chance to actually finish it so now it's just cursed
I don't know, but tropical themes are fricking beautiful and I wish they never fell out of fashion.
No, random early access survival crafting games set on beaches don't count, those look ugly.
Truth is
We reached the future in the Y2K
And then something happened
We all became slaves
It's like things somehow went backwards culturally
I feel like, we're not only dumber, but also sadder.
it's because you're constantly exposed to people with different opinions but you have no shared community with them
so your brain is constantly hardwired to be combative and angry
nobody is allowed to be happy when using online spaces
just good vibes bro
Does anyone else associate most of the 2000s with a light, sterile-feeling blue color?
Avsolutely
I associate with dark city skylines myself.
I associate it with a flourescent green color and wet city streets at night.
Replace that with the dim orange of high pressure sodium bulbs and you have it for me as well.
Yeah, that's what immediately comes to mind of I think of the time around 2006. If I had to point out specific media for that look it would be Steins;Gate, Persona 3, Mirror's Edge, shit like that.
I think the "Lost Decade" in Japan and its influence on nip media might be the prime reason for that. Blue can really be a cold and depressive color.
Everything was more physical and in the present. Families were more close knit. You still read paper magazines and journals, fast food restaurants were an experience, kids played in the streets a lot more. People were outside and live outside more.
The real reason is because around that time movies/games more commonly used high saturation color grading, it's a stylistic things that makes things seem warmer and more inviting. But like most things it started to seem passe after a while and people stopped doing it outside of throwbacks.
Watching the collective alzheimers of everyone in this thread who unironically think that colors were brighter in real life back then started out hilarious and then just got sad.
Its just because memories are fallible. They fade and change over time and get conflated with other things. Any time I think of the 1980s I picture everything with chromatic aberration and vhs distortion. The 60s all looks like a polaroid picture. The 1900s-1940s is black and white. And the 19th century is all a big oil painting.
>Any time I think of the 1980s I picture everything with chromatic aberration
lol, moron
memories? of the 19th century? you old as frick, man - some sort of record, I'm sure
It feels like vision is sort of perpetually darkeend but not really, hard to explain. Almost like a derealization kind of thing. Been going for some years now.
Graphics weren't good enough to do realistic so a lot went with stylized graphics. An oceanside scene also doesn't require too many polygons.
Has there ever not been a lot of beach levels in games?
>6001BC+8024
>still confusing your rose tinted nostalgic memories for reality
Beaches still exist, sunny days are still bright. You just don't leave the basement.
>hurr it was 2012 that changed the sun thats cause it was the mayan date
yeah things are weird but you don't have to act like a magical switch got flipped in 2012. no apocalypse happened, just gradual decline from the rise of social media and a failing economy
It was the first hardware gen that could handle good water effects and everyone wanted to show them off. Simple as
>googles okinawa beach
ok, whoever said that has a point
A lot of FFX is definitely just Okinawa
I was living in Puerto Vallarta when Sunshine was released, so comfy
I think sometimes a lot of devs, either because of each other or independently, discover or notice a certain theme or artstyle and just happen to think its cool at once. I noticed the same thing with that one IRL lake where the sky seamlessly connects with the water appearing in many different games, Tekken 7 (Infinite Azure) and Kingdom Hearts 3 (Final World) being the ones mainly coming to mind.
I think that was stolen from Evangelion's congratulations scene
That's similar but not quite the same thing, plus as iconic as it was it was a really long time ago so it would be odd for it to come back so much.
Apparently they're called salt lakes/salt flats. The other thing I missed is that because there's a layer of salt or something just under the water surface people can actually walk along them and it looks like they're walking on the water. It's pretty insane to see that it's a real thing.
ah, yeah, those
from every anime OP back in the day
>Congratulations sora you re fricking dead
Better ending than the canon
it was just simply because they could do decent looking water finally
>that one IRL lake where the sky seamlessly connects with the water
I'm having a hard time conceptualizing this.
>and just happen to think its cool at once.
If you ever do anything artistic, you'll realize real quick how much easier it is to just fricking steal shit. That's what these hack homosexuals do.
I mean, I'm in no way suggesting that couldn't have happened, quite the opposite that it could have went either way. It's just the timing and lack of connection that is interesting when it shows up, that's what OP is all about after all.
didn't I read they essentially proved that the same ideas tend to show up in multiple places at once independent of each other? and the theory as to why was the collective unconscious? either way, this isn't that
it died when sega died

For me, it's breaking my controller being frustrated by Wind Waker as a kid and never finishing it and grinding 99 pretty stones before I left the island in Kingdom Hearts.
The reason was sakaguchi and some chinks in hawaii ofices
What about a real winter instead?

I hate how Discord is WAY WAY SLOWER than msn back then.
I moved my computer and have been stuck on wifi so this happens to me loading pictures all the time here now and I have to turn off and turn on wifi on it to get it to stop.

>Limewire
Bricked not only my parents computer using that shit but my friends family computer by extension because I was the one who showed it to him, lol.
had a friend bring his pc to best buy to fix after limewire destroying it and they put spyware on his computer and something that blocked using the disc drive because they found so much free music on it.
>cleaning the lint out of the mouse
now that's the good stuff right there
>no MSN
Haha, no friends!
There's something about the water that feels like home to me on a spiritual level, never understood why.
go back
it's not made for me anymore
There is no way around it, this reality is close to dying. I suggest making right with Christ, he will soon back return and put this world out of its misery.
You Black folk have been saying this since the dawn of civilization and you've NEVER been right
>J-JUST TWO MORE WEEKS!

This looks real good. What console?
Super cozy. What's this on?

Life went to fricking shit for you homosexuals when you found this website and started habitually returning to it day after day for years on end and you don't even realize it
naw
life went to shit in 2008
I didn't even bother browsing this site until 3 years ago
nice water
t. MARIO WIIU
Summer, dance and futurism was just the vibe at the time.
Everything went to shit after 9/11, the Patriotic Act, mudshit terrorism, israelite music producers pushing for violent, degenerate Black person music etc.
Weren't the olimpic games being held in Japan around that time and thats why they got obssesed with the water/summer theme (specially final fantasy X)
No? 2000 Olympics was Australia and 2004 was Greece.
>Life sure does feel colder and darker these days and I can't really put my finger on why that is
Damn, I knew you people were fricking stupid but.... Holy shit
>Is there a deeper reason for this?
western market got woke and decided to hate anything to do with the beach since it reminds them of how fat and ugly they are for not going to the gym. They also decided to make every women ugly as frick to cope.
>Launches at 199$
>4 years later, half priced
you don't see this kind of shit anymore, PS5 is still full price
>you don't see this kind of shit anymore
the N64 was a flop
also, cucksoles are initially sold at a loss, so any "savings" in the middle are just the manufacturers making pennies off the hardware.
the ps1 was also 99$ at the time down from a launch of 299$
not the best example
The $ goes before the number moron
And the $199 was already being sold at a loss. Modern consoles are all sold at a profit.
Because 4 years later it had to start competing with brand new consoles. Now we're on a decade long generational gap, back then it was 5 years.
This green looks so fricking good. They released a thousand Switch color variants but not one translucent retro style.
Consoles in general all look like shit now, they're just variations of some black or white brick. Even Sony that always had interesting designs and aesthetic devices have completely lost their touch.
>2500 yen for a controller (i.e. 2725 yen of today)
so fricking cheap.
We're being robbed.
Gravity Rush 2 has sun soul
My problem is the color. Why did we go from clear or clear blue waters to the doodoo water we have today?
realism over art
Did they do to India for their "realism" because they really got the shit water down perfectly?
because muh graphics
Loss of innocence from the type of people making games nowadays. Everything has to be "realistic", ugly and political.
2001 is when the boring politics entered our lives
or is that when you lost the ability to ignore them cause the 90s was a very political decade
where were the gays Black folk and troonys in 90s video games?
also where were the false claims about climate change? yet they keep investing in chinese smog machines that produce trash at unseen speeds?
what the frick was political about spyro the dragon?
why the frick did the evil cartoon german dude talking about you will own nothing become a real person 20 years later?
oh so the only politics you dont want to see are the ones you disagree with i get it
so you're just a disingenuous homosexual
name 3 political things about mario
the person who gets mad over seeing things he doesn't like is calling others disingenuous
>duuuuude doom was so political you killed demons and sheiiiit
>liberals are like demoons maaan
no one cares what you think of tetris and how everything is somehow a gay allegory for dying from starvation and israelites according to you
just dont say " i dont like politics in my games" when what you mean is " i dont like seeing things i disagree with cause my views are as fragile as glass and a game might sway my opinion"
okay but YOU HAVE YET TO POINT OUT TO ME WHERE THE FRICK WAS THE POLITICS IN 90S VIDEO GAMES
WHAT THE FRICK IS POLITICAL ABOUT PACMAN YOU Black person
pacman was an 80s game
and metal gear solid fallout there where lots of 90s games that where political like i said they just didnt espouse poltics you disliked
>pac-man was an 80s games
someone never played pac-man world
>mgs is political
so you are a moron
if you think metal gear solid is not political you are a moron
>a game about being a spy and about generic military and sci fi tropes and war
>nothing is explicitly telling you what is good or bad
>noooo uuu i'm not a moron u r a big fat dummy
kys
war is inherently pollical you moron
and again if you cant handle someone telling you something is wrong then your views are as fragile as glass
not the same politics
Beach levels worked well for the PS2 because there's not that much geometry to render when most of the level is ocean and the bright light made it easy to make the simple pre-baked shadows look good.
because during those years beaches where the easiest and cheapest things to render that looked somewhat impressive to the less informed then graphics got better and faster
One Piece started airing in 1999. Coincidence?
With the nearing and especially arrival of seventh-gen or as I still call it "next-gen" for some reason every game had its color sucked out. Suddenly all flicker vanished replaced by either an awful piss filter or gray vomit and this borderline black and white aesthetic has been going on more pretty much two decades straight with no ending in sight.
Reminder that 'frutiger aero' is literally propaganda designed to make the dystopian Y2K future seem more appealing to human beings. Sci-fi creators made it abundantly clear that the future is going to be depressing as frick, so corpos were like "let's get these libtards to buy our shit instead, what the frick do they like" and decided on ecological idealism in the form of this particular aesthetic. Libtards literally think that by supporting corpos they are helping the earth. lol. lmao.
One of the sonic designers would holiday in Okinawa as a kid and based the sonic scenes on that

>there were darker games but those werent targeting children.
Not OP, but I think the dark games from the late 90s/early 2000s were cooler than modern dark games as well. I still like to make hl1 maps just to hang around in.
>early-mid 2000s felt sunnier, both IRL and on camera

Not really deep, Easy way to show Graphical Prowess by showcasing, Lighting (Tropical environments are Sunny and with water you can play with lighting, shadow and reflection and visual distortion making it pretty variable (IE: Seeing things through water, or Heat Haze), so a Sunny Watery location like that was attractive to sell the technological upgrade of your series at that point of time, if obviously not the only one. And as flawed as people like to see them now "Water Physics" were something Devs liked to brag about and reviewers brought up like if it was a Miiverse post.

Serious Sam The First Encounter is sun-soul
chemtrails exist and are used to block out UV rays thats why everything seems less bright
Schizo posting is real in this thread
I hate the new white sun, I hate it. The non-orange street lamps are horrible too.
Could make a game about all that, you know.
The new sun, the media, everything.
Its was just the trend of the era in gaming and media this stuff happens all the time its why early 90's is associated with edginess and depression its just sorta were media as a whole was at the time. This is usually because people burned out on the previous trend.
Because now It's all about shaders and making every color washed out for muh realism.
Bring back sega's blue skies
That's how water actually looked like back in the day, idk what you're memeing about
Obviously the 90/00's were better artistically, culturally, socially, everything.
But one thing I never see people mention is CRTs. CRTs didn't emit the same garbage blue light that LCDs do.
Turn on those blue light filters, people!
MiniLEDs in two more weeks.
It's because Japanese video game devs were passionate and obsessed with tropical countries, for instance for Sonic Adventure, Sonic team travelled to Quintana Roo, Mexico just to get an idea of a authentic beach level. They also took pictures of the sand and sea, which are the textures used in Emerald Coast.
The music is mostly inspired Bossa Nova/ Samba, irrestibly upbeat vibes that evoke images of melancholic sunsets, azure skies, joy.
listen to that bass, it's absolutely sublime:
Even games like Dark Souls, in all of its gloom and darkness, has a sort of ethereal quality to it. People are joyless these days and most indie games are about depression. I mostly blame Unreal Engine for reducing barrier to entry and making games so SOULLESS
That place looks nice
based, sounds beautiful
this music for me evokes some of the same feelings that the older SEGA games did,
made by another Japanese guy who was obsessed with Brazil
studies have shown that colors appear less vivid as you age because the receptors in your eyes deteriorate, aside from the fact that filters and gritty visuals have become more popular
I miss those sega blue skies
Going outside on a sunny day was great, these days you get burned alive from how hot it has become. Thank you boomers.
Y2K aesthetics liked palms and shit
For me summer is MGS Peace Walker on the PSP
Tell me, what was the last time you thought of american politics? Hkw much and how long do you think about that shit?
It all started when Gamergate lost
depends
do you call a madman shitting in your lawn and writing in his own blood american politics thinking about american politics?
because honestly outside of that not not since the early mid 10s
Yesterday. I live in America so its an ever relevant issue for me.
Summer is about going outside. DO YOU GO OUTSIDE? THINK ZOOMIE THINK! Nobody thinks you will buy something on the basis of how cool it is to go outside in summer.
Speaking of which, I remember playing Super Mario Galaxy on a nice summer day that reminds me of this aesthetic.
Frick off Black person, I am 30 years old.
I don't go outside THAT much due to work, but it was the same in 2006 due to other stuff.
I went outside a lot between 2017-2019 as I was working freelance and didn't have much shit to do, and my opinion still stands. Sadly COVID fricked everything up.
Going outside is shit
<3 Great song
Thank you. Very rich video and soothing audio.
Summer is a feeling, can be captured in video, colors, music, sound
a good example is Coca Cola commercials from the 80s
Good thread. The Y2K tropical beach aesthetic is one of the best. Nothing beats playing Pokemon Sapphire and then watching One Piece on Toonami in 2004
>leaving out wind waker
>we haven't had one since
Senran Kagura has had at least 2 games worth of beach episode shenanigans.
rose-tinted glasses, but I hate that meme. pics like this remind me simplier yet amazing time for video game. MonHun, Halo, PSO..
