if a 8yo moron like me could figure it out, then anyone can. Caesar 3 in particular has pretty good tutorial, and if nothing else GameFAQs will help you out. there are guides on YouTube and housing layouts people made online.
the game is basically about walkers and their moronic behavior. houses want more of different walkers passing by their houses. the more they get = bigger & better house. first they want religion, then food, ceramics, and so on. rinse wash repeat

Feels nice to build up a nice little town, complete with agricultural fields, logging, mining, a port for fishing, and to then crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women. I also like building up the fortifications, with walls, towers, castles, gates, etc.

I played that shit when it first came out at age 10 till today and I'm in my late 30s. Fricking east asians bugs and script kids playing 12 hours a day took all the fricking fun out of the online just like starcraft

It's not even about cheating the south Korean bug people dominate games like that and starcraft. It's why a lot of people quit or make private servers because how can someone that works a 9 to 5 compete against someone that plays for 12 hours in an internet cafe

    Age of Mythology
    Stronghold 1

    C&C Tiberian Sun
    Warcraft 2 and 3

I love Warcraft 2 and 3, but damn Age of mythology is pretty darn comfy. That game was so polished when it first came out and only lost rts goty bc of Warcraft.

Yes, it is astonishing how comfy it is. The graphics are bright and appealing, and the music and sound design is top-notch. Just an amazing chill game.

Plus, just my personal opinion, I think age of mythology did 3d better than Warcraft 3. The animations were really top quality, when just a few years the world was dominated by Tiberian sun and StarCraft styles. Very cool.

            >when just a few years the world was dominated by Tiberian sun and StarCraft styles
Tiberian Sun and Starcraft looked much better than 90% of other 2D rts games though and still look great.

Yep, totally agree, they look amazing. I think AoM nailed the transition to 3d rts, though.

              [...]
That soundtrack having *loud* and *chilled* versions of every song was so fricking kino, and the placement of the songs along with the scenarios to constantly balance out way too much going on with more "comfy" moments was incredible, that campaign had fricking legendary pacing along with the sense of literally traveling the fricking world fighting and making all these new allies for a final showdown. I rarely say this because it's usually retroomer cope, but they really do not make RTS campaigns like that anymore.

Yes, I definitely agree about the campaign. I thought WC3 had the best campaign in RTS history, but I was blown away by AoM when I played it. Every mission has novel ideas either in terms of unique gameplay mechanics, map designs, etc. The campaign is just dripping with passion and creativity throughout, and might never be matched. It's absolutely in my top RTS campaigns of all time, possibly at the #1 spot.

It’s true, they dpreally don’t make them like that anymore. I. Fact, they hardly make rts games at all now. The campaign is really well done, which is surprising since the previous AoE campaigns always felt very boring after about 5-6 missions. Even SW Galactic Battlegrounds was a snooze after a while (though I love it), so it’s just that much more impressive that AoM kept me interested throughout, as much as WC3.

Age of Mythology is the comfiest. Me and my friends have even used it for presentations during my ancient Greek class (Americans will never understand) in high school and our teacher loved the game too. Good times. Also everything the npcs say is properly pronounced (or at least how it was reconstructed by German academics) ancient Greek.

      Anonymous

This is incorrect; they use 4th century ADKoine-and-later pronunciation (same as modern Greek) of consonants like beta.

        Anonymous

4th century is still ancient history. It's late antiquity, sure, but it falls under ancient history still in modern Western historiography. So suck my dick.

There’s just something really satisfying about taking your time, building up an impressive, overwhelming force, and then btfo’ing your ai enemies. I love slowly taking over the map. It’s a shame multiplayer RTS’s are so dependent on apm. They’d be more fun with a little breathing room.

What are some cozy strategy/city building games that require little strategy? I'm in the mood for something slow and easy where I can just build stuff at my own pace.

Does AoM work as well as AoE2 as just a chill city/village builder? Like can I just start a "player vs 3 cpus" skirmish and focus on making cool towns, or will the computer immediately try to rape me?
