It's because the franchise is too creative unironically, every new mainline being essentially a brand new series isn't what the npc cattle wants, they want SAMESAMESAMESAME. Just what they already like for ever.
4, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10 were peak FF. Past that it has literally gone to shit. MMO's as mainline were a mistake. 10 year devs times were a mistake. Not having a firm vision and trying for bastard hybrid battle system bullshit was a mistake.
FF needs to return to turn based, and needs to drop the fruitless pursuit of making the games "modern day fantasy" with everyone looking like a fricking boy band member with ultra 8k graphics because graphics do not make a fricking game worth shit.
Unironically, the best games Square has made in the past 15 years were Nier Automata, Octopath 1 and 2, DQ11, Livealive, and SaGa Frontier 1 update.

Yes. 4 is incredibly vital to RPG's as a whole. It alone introduced so many tropes and ideas copied thousands of times over, and are still in use even today. You'd have to be a drooling mongoloid cumgobbler to not realize that.

Anon, this may be hard for you to realize, but when you re-release or remake games with enhanced features or ports, you count from when those were released. Yes, Livealive is an SNES game. But the HD 2D remake isn't. And the SF1 had them redoing a bunch of sprites and also adding in an entire new character story, plus other rebalancing in the game.

I agree, but for its time it wasnt even that good. FFV is better in every way, and it is actually timeless because i can actually replay it nowadays. Sadly, FFIV is not timeless, it doesnt offer anything on replays and theres nothing you are missing in it if you dont play it.

Combat system is incredibly flawed in every possible way. Story is absolute trash with some of the worst asspulls in the JRPG genre. None of the characters werelikeable, except, unironically, the ones you don't get to play as except as flashback bait.
The music was good, but every FF has good music.
VIII is mostly trash, some cool ideas but execution was completely fricked. Even as a edgy teen I didn't like 8 which says a lot feels like it was made for me.

90% of them haven't even played 1-6. They consider 7-9 as traditional and 10 as the end of the franchise. Fact is 1 & 2 are completely different already and almost all games try something different. You take the good with the bad. Anybody hating on current final fantasy is just not a real fan and never was. That being said. 12 shouldn't have been a numbered ff game since its ivalice. 13 and 15 should have stayed in the versus plan or never been made at all. Sqenix biggest problem are the moronic ceo s and western pandering but I have high hopes for the future now that they notice their mistakes and got rid of the ceo
