Is there any good argument for original hardware over good emulation, especially with mature emulators like mesen, snes9x, Beetle PSX, and Genesis Plus GX?

Easier to hook up to original display technology, in some cases still the best controllers available.
literally (You) right now

Feels like a more authentic experience playing it on the original hardware. Especially with handhelds. I tried playing DQ3 on an emulator on PC and got bored. Booted it up on my GBC and I'm nearly finished with it after many hours
don't think there is for anything older than N64-PS1-Dreamcast era other than portable systems like in
More like autistic experience because you care more about le epic r/gaming retro feels than the game itself.
>about le epic r/gaming retro
I both enjoy the games I'm playing and the fact that I have nostalgia for them on their original hardware is a bonus. Sorry your first console was a PS3, little zoomy.
I agree with all this and also save states kill it for me. I always resort to using them when given the option, so playing it on the actual system prevents me from doing so.
Just enable hardcore mode in retroarch and you also get the non-baby-mode version of the retro achievements if you do
No
>I have no self control
why not split the difference and have more options?
Because that is ewaste
I'd feel like a total piece of shit using one for those . I hate these useless modern day electronics
Yes
It just ain't the same as the real thing.
get a better joystick
It's not mine, just a photo I found.
I'm a boomer so it's already a big effort for me to focus on a game. Messing with plug-ins, controllers syncing, resolutions, scalers etc just kills my desire to play the game.
I'm also a big believer in segmentation as it relates to human productivity. If you can play everything you will probably play very little and get bored quickly.
Physical media is rapidly disappearing. I can't pass down a subscription to anyone. I imagine finding roms will be very difficult in the next 10 years too.
>plug-ins, controllers syncing, resolutions, scalers etc
It literally just works for retroarch with default settings, you just need to get roms and (in some cases) bios and you're good to go. Even if you're autistic with tweaking settings, after a few days you will learn all the best settings and little tricks and it gives you so much more customization if you want it.
>retroarch
>you're good to go.
t. shitposter
Retroarch has overrides with custom settings, shaders, and control bindings per game or core. It also has run-ahead which can significantly lower input lag. So in many ways it's better than standalone.
It is a bit unintuitive with how you download and update cores and other features, and it does expect you to read the wikia to know you need what BIOS and where for certain systems, but it's still pretty straightforward and most solutions are an internet search away
No dude. I don't want this. And neither does that guy. Stop proposing this as an option. I don't want to deal with that bullshit.
It's very simple. Literally a few hours and you're set for life.
Frick you. I'd rather spend 3 hours modding hardware than do that . It's just not interesting or enjoyable. Frick you.
using original peripherals like light guns I guess
My biggest peeve with emulation right now is audio delay - Even with my fairly decent setup (5900x, rtx 3070) I can't get SNES emulation with runahead and audio latency down to 32ms without dropping frames/getting audio pops on games like Super Metroid. And fat chance with anything 5th gen
