I would say vesperia definitive edition is the best start point for the series. But if for whatever reason berseria appeals to you, it's not a bad first
I think Tales is the kind of franchise that only shines consistently when you focus on the aspect binding all games together: the action-packed combat. Bump the difficulty the highest you can go and you'll have a great time with all games equally. Unless they're fundamentally broken pieces of shit like Phantasia, Destiny PSX or Zestiria (to a lesser degree).
>Bump the difficulty the highest you can go and you'll have a great time with all games equally
Very bad advice, please don't listen to this. Zestiria would be a horrible grindfest if you do this, due to the itemization system which is pretty much forced on higher difficulties.
Like that other anon pointed out, Zestiria is one of the exceptions I mentioned. Nonetheless, though, I played the game through to the end just for Edna and I felt Insane was the right balance, bordering between absolute moronation and just enough challenge to take advantage of the few core mechanics that actually work without making the rest too overbearing.
God no.
Abyss or Symphonia is the best place to start.
Berseria's not bad but it's a bit too fricking edgy.
Vesperia may be all right but to be honest the MC annoys me for some reason.
The problem with starting with Abyss and Symphonia is that there's no where to go but down.
Eternia is pretty good but how many zoomers are going to be able to play that.
Vesperia is just bland.
They're standalone and all of them play pretty uniquely.
Personally, I'd try Vesperia before it because that's the "go to" Tales game
Abyss is good but >3ds
Yeah man, let's make the OP play some shitty PS2 game and bounce off this series HARD.
I swear, this board is full of tryhards.
the modern tales games feature dumbed down combat, shitty dungeons, system bloat out the ass, and p2w dlc. there's no reason to recommend them over the old games that were actually complete packages.
xillias the best one to start from ( from all the more modern ones ) there's going to be stuff that wont make sense to you unless you play from that game onward
If you're limited on PC only then start with Berseria, play Arise afterwards. Skip Zestiria because it is a shame to tales of series.
Get off this board and go play berseria now!
Nah, I'm not the OP. But yes, I'm PC only, so far I've played Berseria, Zestiria and Vesperia, in this order. Will be picking up Arise on the first good sale, and then might try some of the classics, like Symphonia, Abyss (PS2 emulation is easy) or that recently translated isometric game, that one looked super comfy.
Abyss in particular is intriguing, to my understanding it's just a slightly worse Vesperia, and there are some really hot girls, but apparently the story gets moronic later on and some people were really mad about it.
>Abyss in particular is intriguing, to my understanding it's just a slightly worse Vesperia, and there are some really hot girls, but apparently the story gets moronic later on and some people were really mad about it.
Abyss is better than Vesperia in every way except graphics.
Not that guy but I'm 29 and have a PS3.. that is sitting in the cupboard collecting dust. Can't be fricked getting it out and playing xillia on it again..if it was on steam I would definitely play it again lol
>2D
Destiny remake(when they translated it), eternia and if you don't care of being in japanese the phantasia/Nakiri PSP games. >3D
Abyss >Post xillia games
Xillia or Arise.
Unironically, Tales of Arise. Best combat, OK story. It's enough to get you going for a bit. I started with Vesperia but it took me a WHILE to get used to the combat. Not even enjoy, get used to. It was my first Tales game so of course bumpy road ahead but gameplay is a real big reason to keep me playing and Arise just hits a good spot
I'll never understand how Vesperia gets jerked off so much. Some of the weakest character development and encounters in a series that thrives on good characters and fun combat.
I think it's a great all around Tales game and the fact it's the last one with a traversable world map helps. There's plenty of character development for all the party, Yuri's is just more subtle than anyone else's and he mostly plays the mentor role.
Vesperia combat is very fun once you get the mechanics turned on.
None of the modern games reach its level of complexity and not being complete bullshit, and Xillia 1-2 are probably the only 3d ones that are better than it.
Every Vesperia character is fun to play, notably different, and complex (except Rita for the last one, but that's casters for most of them). That's a hard thing to say
nothing you said is wrong, but the combat is also slow as hell, and each move feels like it has 1 second of wind-up built in, and everything just comes off feeling laggy and janky as hell as a result.

I got into Tales at the behest of a friend a few years ago. Berseria and Vesperia were great!
others have been harder to get through, and some I wont finish. like Zestria.

but he said that doesn't apply to zestiria

Better to go off early than suffer through a wiener and ball torture session to get an orgasm ten hours later.
berseria's shit
It's alright, it's definitely a bit different from other tales games but I liked it a lot.
There's literally 1 3d tales entry that is worse than it
Vesperia was pretty bad
Shit opinion, berseria and zestiria are also far worse
It was a good point to return to but honestly go for Arise or the tried and true Symphonia/Abyss.
They're standalone and all of them play pretty uniquely.
Personally, I'd try Vesperia before it because that's the "go to" Tales game
Abyss is good but
>3ds
>Abyss 3DS
What is PS2 or PS2 emulator
well all the games are shit so start wherever you want
Arise, Berseria and Vesperia and the only ones worth playing in 2021. The rest are either too outdated or just bad.
I hear a Zoomer out there.
Yeah man, let's make the OP play some shitty PS2 game and bounce off this series HARD.
I swear, this board is full of tryhards.
>thinking Beseria and Vesperia will make people want to even finish them
Cringe
She is LITERALLY the only good part of Berseria. If it wasn't for her, the game would be as dull as Arise.
the modern tales games feature dumbed down combat, shitty dungeons, system bloat out the ass, and p2w dlc. there's no reason to recommend them over the old games that were actually complete packages.
is the MC a lesbian?
No, she's into incestuous /ss/
shame
Nope just a paedo.
BERUBETTO CROWE
No, start with Phantasia (ps1 version) and go up from there.
i want to frick magilou until she is optimistic
xillias the best one to start from ( from all the more modern ones ) there's going to be stuff that wont make sense to you unless you play from that game onward
>PS3 only
>needs an old console or demanding emulation
Maybe they'll finally port it to PC/current gen consoles now that Arise is done.
If you're limited on PC only then start with Berseria, play Arise afterwards. Skip Zestiria because it is a shame to tales of series.

the characters in abyss are all complete shit, and the vesperia cast is miles better. that being said, the cast is Berseria is better still.
>except graphics
And gameplay. Abyss fricking sucks to play.
why do you not own a ps3
are you underaged or something
Not that guy but I'm 29 and have a PS3.. that is sitting in the cupboard collecting dust. Can't be fricked getting it out and playing xillia on it again..if it was on steam I would definitely play it again lol

hopefully we get tales of xillia 3 and for pc aah so hot

Not at all. Try Abyss, or Vesperia. Berseria is pretty awful. I would recommend Symphonia too, but it hasn't aged well as a starting point.
>no weapon or enemy variety
>everything is just a recolor
WHERE DID THE BUDGET GO
environments
>>no weapon or enemy variety
Huh?

> What is Graces
really bad game dont bother
zestiria is the best game to start of
