This. I was fortunate enough to only have played it after PCs had caught up to it.
OP should prepare for a big install. Game is made of wholly uncompressed movies.
>Game is made of wholly uncompressed movies.
No. They are extremely compressed and look terrible. There's just a lot of them and it installs both English and jap versions.
>story >setting >pacing >character motivations make no sense and pivot on a dime >no gameplay systems besides combat >no world exploration until chapt 11 >15 hour tutorial for a battle system that's not that complex
The PC version can be fan patched to enable higher resolutions and 60fps
You’d actually be better off watching a compilation of scenes like a movie because you actually get to not waste your time with something oretending to be a “game” but its mostly pre scripted events (in an “RPG”)
i like it a fair amount, but it's an alright game at best. fights boil down to buff > debuff > stagger > nuke without much variety, and it doesn't feel like there's a big payoff for grinding good weapons/equipment
music is absolutely lovely and one of the best OSTs in a final fantasy
XIII-2 is a lot better imo but it wouldn't make much sense without playing this first
False just on the fsct that in THAT movie you can at least mash buttons. 13 just has you as the role of coach, the “chrystarium” is also a fancy way of giving you LINEAR abilities that are story locked until you beat the game.
As opposed to a system that ISN’T linear? Just the license board system gives you a fricking choice of whatnto level up. What the frick do you mean “as opposed to what”? A sign of a good RPG is a fricking flexible character development. What the frick do you call the straight line that is the chrystarium????
It's a ROLE playing game, you're in the role of the character you're controlling and their starting roles perfectly fit with their personalities. The game lets you level whatever you want later, but for the duration of the story you're still primarily gonna use their starting roles.
anything else in FF, really? FF9 with learning abilities from equipment, FF10 spheregrid, FF12 license board, shit even FF2 you could buy spells and have anyone learn them at any time. crystarium hedges you into what the game wants you to do, and even after you unlock the offroles for everyone they end up costing an insane amount of points to level them
Same thing. It's an ensemble cast, you're meant to use every character.
okay sure you're meant to use everyone, but for a good 1/3 of the game you are forced to use certain parties due to the story. and then for the next 1/3 of the game you have the offroles locked. it's pretty clunky
Unfinished Game gave you a 20 hour tutorial, where the plot drives your game. So the game mechanics aren’t even unlocked until like halfway through because “MUH RPG”? Wild. Aren’t you people ashamed? Do you not remember the early 13 trailers of the gameplay you never got?

>chrystarium let's you pick which abilities and stats you want to level up >it doesn't matter anyway because by the time you reach the end of that chapter's corridor, you've already maxed out the grid until the story allows you to put more points in
what were they thinking?
It's hard to say. The story is nice, but paced poorly. The game focuses on it's combat. That's really all there is so if you aren't meshing with the combat OR the characters you won't like it.
seriously... the b***h is supposed to be an elite soldier but she has the muscle mass of a childhood polio victim
someone should send nomura and toriyama some videos of female olympic athletes so they can have an idea of what a fit woman should look like
I fully believe Nomura knows about the concept of meat, but someone on the FF modeling team is beyond fricked, Tifa and Aerith looks downright famished during that new ending in Intergrade
The gameplay and graphics are good, but the story is utter garbage. The fact that you mainly go through corridors (chapter 11 changes this, but it's empty) "full" with enemies and cutscenes makes you wonder if it's really worth it. SPOILER AHEAD It's not and I started skipping cutscenes at chapter 3... I played it until the end and I don't recommend it.
Ignore the shitposts in this thread. Final Fantasy 13 was so genuinely bad that it damaged the series' reputation forever. Final Fantasy 13-3 (yes, they made 3 games) was the worst selling Final Fantasy game of all time - even below FF1.
i think this thread has been pretty objective about the game, no one is really shilling it. it isn't great but if you enjoy the gameplay or the characters it'll be a fine enough experience
It was considered one of the shittest RPGs of its time, but it turns out the movieslop direction and 'streamlined' gameplay was merely ahead of its time.
It's alright but I hear the PC ports are abysmal
They're not good but IIRC modern hardware can brute force it well enough. I forgot if you need fan patches or not

No. They are extremely compressed and look terrible. There's just a lot of them and it installs both English and jap versions.
>pressing a commonly used key for pausing a game on PC turns the game off
Why the frick did they do that
The good:
>graphics
>music
>battle system
>characters
the bad:
>story
>setting
>pacing
>character motivations make no sense and pivot on a dime
>no gameplay systems besides combat
>no world exploration until chapt 11

No just download FF13 porn instead. Its way better than playing that piece of shit
any recommendations?
Fang & Vanille Scissoring Compilation Vol.1 is a good starting point
Play Galaga instead
Holy BASADO

it's better than 16 at least

>linear abilities
As opposed to what, exactly?

idk stock up points so you get a headstart next time it gets expanded i guess?
it really was a b***h
now that is some low class bait
Yes OP, Claire IS hot
Buy all three NOW

>hot
no op, she is not hot. barely average character design.
You say this now, but in early 2010s she was considered smokin'
she has a nice face but she is built like a grasshopper, her XIII outfit conceals it well
>she is built like a grasshopper
dont you talk shit about hank hill
Stop posting off-model art
seriously... the b***h is supposed to be an elite soldier but she has the muscle mass of a childhood polio victim

Lightning mogs any character design from the 2020s
She's not even the best Lightning in her own series
nice
is she from Type 0? never played that shit
Yep, Nomura got a little lazy with some of the designs
its better than rpg maker slop and other uninspied rpgs, its too easy, the music is really good the gameplay loop isnt, the game plays itself jon.
It was made for its 2009 demographic - teenage emo girls
emo girls were already a dead trend by 2009
Nah, that was the last year before they faded away. I remeber dozens of them pissing themselves over A7X's Nightmare album on release on a target
its a movie game

>the gameplay is good
if you have the skill to beat dark souls it wont amuse you, but if you take it as a movie game it is fun.
imagine Lightning pegging your sissy butt
>The girl on the cover is hot
No!
You are in charge of making FF13 remaster, how would you fix the game?
Sex cutscenes
Jump straight in XIII-3 Lightning Returns. It's by far the best of the trilogy.
it's one of the weaker FF games but not the worst
and image did not attach
its only good for vanille

I's abysmal, particularly the beginning which is like 20 hours long.
