Gungeon is fun but its worse than isaac in every regard
Isaac has a million ways to save your run and gain/spend resources
In gungeon theres only the occasional npc that trades health or guns for money thats it
If you get bad rng in gungeon its just 30 minutes of aids
The amount of manipulation that you can do in isaac is crazy and a big factor of why I love it so much.
yeah, gungeon feels like it's artificially designed so that you think it's random while actually encountering almost exactly the same shit each run. in isaac you can actually experience true randomness.
in gungeon you will pick up two guns and get a hardcoded "synergy" that actually gives you a completely new gun not related to the previous two. in isaac, you pick up quad shot with brimstone and you shoot quad brimstone, then you pick up mom's knife and you shoot quad knife brimstone.
Gungeon is just running from room to room fighting with your brain turned off
Passive buffs are almost non existent so if you get shit rng on guns its over

I like Gungeon but Isaac is better. All the starting gear in Gungeon sucks, you have to play a long time to be able to beat it. Isaac is beatable from the first run.
using bombs for bossfights is extremely underrated
you have to unlock his extra hp up. also try bombing pots in the basement for that swallowed penny.
Get the 3rd coin HP and he becomes much easier.
Have you tried gitting good? They made him infinitely better in Repentance and people are still cying.

this is not true, you can gain additional health with the greed's gullet item and also mom's kiss can give you another heart i believe. actually, with mom's box and a golden mom's kiss you can have 6 hp. deep pockets and greed's gullet also let you get up to 12 hp if you get a shitton of money.

for me yes; Synthetik. Gameplay is almost better but the content isn't nearly as big and varied.

yeah, it's strange how good and deep isaac is...one of the best games ever made for sure. So good that i will import a physical edition for my switch some day, to play it when i am old, in a nursery home to something..
genuinely though, i would never imagine myself completing a game 100% 3 times in a row but for some reason it's actually enjoyable with isaac.
I think one of the big positives for Isaac is that it was iterated on for like, a decade. No matter what new games in the genre will not have as much variety. Maybe RoR2 will now that Gearbox is continuing it past where the original devs intended, but it also has a higher chance of being shit because Gearbox is making it.

The beta is private but they are rolling it out slowly.

That is one thing that Gungeon gets right. Boss armor is limited to a certain amount of damage per second, except for specific weapons which explicitly state that they break the damage cap. Boss armor in Isaac is needlessly complicated.

don't forget how attack fly damage is interpreted at face value and can jack up the boss armor so high that it can end your run if you aren't steamrolling already

What's the Hush bug? What I really want to see fixed is enemies spawning/appearing on top of you in greed mode.
When Hush is low on health his cooldown between attacks is supposed to be lower. Instead it's almost nonexistent, and you can easily get patterns that are literally undodgable that were not present before Repentance. Also you damage enemies that spawn on you without taking damage for a split second, but I think if they're explosive you still take damage anyway.
His last phase was broken during a very early Rep patch, he just spams attacks without pause.

I love every planetarium item but Jupiter and Mars. Those both suck. Terra is my beloved, but I really like Luna too.
I love a lot of the Planetarium items because they alter gameplay so much. Terra, Mercury.
Standard item pool...too many to pick a single one.
I also appreciate that it gives a reason to not go into item rooms. Also makes the blue hourglass more worthwhile because you can check an item room and see if you would prefer the planetarium instead.
I just wish the ability to see the chance of it wasn't a mod.

You know the void portals that only show up in the void and spawn enemies? They unlock by defeating the Lamb, and they used to be able to show up ON EVERY FLOOR, and when they were first introduced they would spawn enemies infinitely until you killed them, so you could start a run and have to deal with two of them infinitely spawning enemies with base stats in the first room. They gave them a spawn limit but they were still awful until repentance limited them to the void.

I'm fairly sure the bloat hate was carried over from AB+ when boss rooms could be closets and we just memoryholed the entire concept of closet boss rooms.
I fricking WISH I could simply forget how many times orange rag man forced a reset after slogging through rooms of void portals in AB+, that shit is scarred deep into my soul and made me think twice before even picking up Repentance.
i played with a mod once that was bugged and gave me closet boss rooms in repentance, my brain was halfway towards an aneurysm wondering why the mega maw boss fight felt unusually difficult for some reason
He's hated just right. If he's at the top of the room you can't reliably attack him so you either just wait for him to jump lower or get hit. He's balanced fine, he's just unfun.
Here's a fun fact about bloat: since rebirth, his floating eyes had the exact same hitbox as his body, meaning they were much larger than it looked. This error carried over to both ab and ab+, and only got fixed in repentance.
with the eyes spawning blood pools under them you probably don't want to be near them anyway
Bloat hate started in flash isaac where his attack had a short enough startup that you'd get tapped immediately on entry if you were in the doorway.
It didn't really become a problem until rebirth since you couldn't stack infinite health anymore, and day 1 lost had to deal with it too.

The strat was always pray for swallowed penny because it would drop a coin on hit 100% of the time. I had zero problems getting his marks on the new bosses in Repentance.
