Their management is some of the most moronic cretins and I am being serious.
They make every decision imaginable to attempt to sink their studio, and if their games were even a touch worse, like if they were on the Compile Hearts side of RPGs instead of the Square Enix side, they would have gone out of business already. Fan love for games going back 30 years is keeping their studio aloft but most of the time they purposefully make decisions to destroy the studio.
They haven't made a good game in years? Oath in Felghana and Origin was like 19 years ago and those are the last good Ys games. Kiseki has been in the dumpster since Rean's laughably bad trash killed the series. None of their original IPs are relevant or worth playing. Of course, then you have the mentally ill fanboys tricking people into playing their garbage because they are upset other RPGs series are far more successful and better.
I cannot think of a modern JRPG series that is on the same tier/better than the Cold Steel games outside Nier & Unicorn Overlord.

The primary initial release market is Japan, and the PS4/5 is the biggest market there aside from the Switch (which they aren't releasing on, at least at first, because it is too weak and constrains them too much). It'll expand platforms in the WW release.

This game will be lucky to get 10k week 1 with how weak their performance is over there and Falcon takes forever to localize so the JP audience is their only audience for a while.
Falcom has $60 mil in cash. The total value of the business is $70 mil. The only thing that can kill them is the yen collapsing, as their stash continues to accumulate more yen which is sadly worth less for them in USD terms than it was several years ago.
I should add that they have $6 mil in operating expense. 65 full time employees.
In other words, falcom could operate with zero revenue for 10 years straight and they would still not run out of cash. Meanwhile, they continue to operate profitably producing consistent low budget games.
