The story beats and plot to this game are a rehash of DOS2. Just switch the voidwoken and source with parasites and that is pretty much Baldur's Gate 3's story. Character customization is utter ass. Side quest do not contribute at all to game ending. There are just there so you can get improved gear. Swen the dumbass did a Todd Howard and boasted that his game has 17,000 endings when really there are only 7 (10 if you chose Dark Urge). There is no ending slides for factions, NPC's and companions. Camera is giving me Neverwinter Nights 2 flashbacks. UI is dog shit. Dismissing companions is an utter chore. The games main story can be beaten in 20 hours or less. The side quests really are just filler and padding to add to the run time. I wish companions would stop coming on to me whenever I try to be nice to them.

In middle of act 2 and this has been my frustration so far. It really is D:OS3 with a better marketing name for it, to the point that it blatantly carries over the shortcomings of D:OS2.

The actual gameplay is a snoozefest.
5e mechanics shit up the combat so bad that it's unbearably swingy. Save-scumming and cheesing feel necessary for playing on Tactician because of that.
Larian did make the best of a bad situation, though. Classes generally feel fun, which I never thought I'd say about 5e, and martial classes are extremely good because of their action economy and lack of reliance on limited resources.
The turn-based combat has a terrible transition. I've had combats go awry because one character enters combat from turn-based exploration, while sending the rest of the party into real-time and walking around as a group rather than maintaining formation.
It even glitches out where initiative breaks and combat becomes pseudo-real time during the first round.

Combat is really good when the encounter was actually designed to be a cool fight (forge boss was amazing for example)
Exploration is 10/10 in the big "dungeon" places (the goblin temple/grymforge, not sure what to call them), the open world is kinda shit but still fun sometimes, suffers a lot from "there has to be an event in every X square meters" modern game syndrome
The party members are all complete shit so far except for Shadowheart and the frog woman (post 1st half of act 1 moronic phase) that feel like actual characters in a story, the others all feel like midschoolers first OCs. Doesn't help that like 70% of camp interaction are Asterion/Gale/Wyll being gay.
The RP portion of the game makes no sense and is the worst by far, most dialogue options other than the obvious follow the story ones are nonsensical and break immersion, a lot of times you either break character or have to pick moronic meme options

I like pretty much everything about the game, apart from the combat - it's just too slow and takes too long. Which is a huge issue since there are not enough options for avoiding combat, so you'll be running into combat at least every 15 minutes. And it's not like the fights are especially hard, they're just tedious as hell, especially since long rests are basically mandatory after every fight.
I wish this game was more of a true cRPG, with more negotiations, investigations, charming etc and less fricking fighting and killing everybody on at least half of the encounters.

It’s a great game for 2023, reminds me of my childhood skipping school to play 2004 era rpgs when they were actually good. I don’t care about the “woke” shit because it’s an Rpg, if you wanna be a troony homosexual in the game it should let you because of player freedom.

I just killed off an entire camp of goblins being lead by an evil drow elf by:
>Magically pulling a statue from it's base, killing most of the goblins that I had herded to be in it's crash zone
>Magically conjuring gusts of wind to push the big-boss down into a pit with two giant spiders I had befriended by talking to them through my "Speak with animals" cantrip (Oath of Ancients Paladin)
>Letting my new druid friend with his black bear form maul the frick out of the evil drow woman and taking her enchanted armor for my cleric.
Legitimately the most fun I've had in a game ever.
