simple. megas means using older pokemon as a crutch to make "new" designs. after this, we start seeing shit like regional variants and paradox mons which are even lazier than megas most of the time
prior to gen 6, the only time new gens revisted mons from older gens was to give them permanent evolutions and most of the time they put effort into making those designs. not any of this regional variant or paradox bullshit
it's alos worth noting that every gen since gen 6 has been doing this. we will never get another gen like gen 3 or gen 5

You may have it backwards, megas weren’t about making new designs. They were made to elevate the Pokémon that got then because those are the Pokémon game freak values to most. Megas confirms which Pokémon are worthy of being aces and everything else is just fodder that only exists to be burnt down by CHARIZARD

how out of touch are you? megas are absolute bottom of the barrel garbage but pokemon is an evergreen franchise that will outlast us all, they will keep milking and recycling shit forever. you will live to see pokefusions, you will live to see pokemon scarlet and violet remakes, you will live to see 4 stage evolutions, you will live to see triple typed pokemon, you will 100% live to see new megaevolutions(unfortunately)
Maybe in the Kalos remakes we'll get new megas.
I get that Megas are pretty much the spectacle and power boost they give and not much else but I like how the game's suggest that mega evolution is only possible through strong bonds with one's Pokemon, would've been a nice mechanic to see implemented and be used more appropriately in the narrative of the games. I don't remember if the later gimmicks mention requiring a strong bond although given all of them are accessible from the get go rather than having to get a Pokemon to its final evolution.

The thing with Megas is that it was an excellent excuse to improve shitmons (ex: Beedrill) but they also gave it to mons that absolutely did not fricking need one (ex: Garchomp)
