thats because the pistol is by far the strongest and the best way to ignore the combat. Just use the pistol special ability to headshot the boss 5 times in a second and move on with the game. The other guns deal less damage and dont feel satisfying to use. CQC is fun but some bosses really favor range over everything else (I think theboss you fight when you return to AP in the forest is the worst).

Every weapon type gets good after you level them up. Pistol is just the one that let's you freeze time and kill 6 people simultaneously.
it did a poor job of marketing itself and a poorer job of letting the player know that there was actual differences between different choices.
a lot of people did one playthrough and dropped it.
not to mention the PC port was factually unplayable at launch.
>differences between different choices.
The players were just moronic because they recently came from Fallout 3 and Mass Effect 3
A monkey with two brain cells could've figured out that if you're an butthole to your boss, it'll bite you in the ass later
It had better choices/consequences and roleplay aspects than Cybercuck and BG3. The gameplay was bland though. Had it received help from a bigger studio and it was polished, it would've been remembered better
>get ambushed on a boat >shoot them >ask her what the frick is going on >gives me the silent treatment >well, she shot at me first, cant afford to let her live >shoot her >albatross calls me, is all mad >tell him what i did was 100% reasonable >he cringes, he knows im right but also hates me for being right
I figured she was some autist assassin that was afraid of speaking up. Anyway, you were shooting at me and didnt give me a chance to explain myself. Dont be butthurt when you get shot by someone you were trying to kill
I'd say bloodlines killed troika, it was much more expensive to make, I feel like if they kept making isometric games like arcanum they would've lasted a few more years (not long though)
Arcanum ended up in the bargain bin, not really what youre hoping for when you are the creators of fallout. Temple of elemental evil was just pure D&D autism. Bloodlines had the biggest chance to be a hit since it had actual graphics, and was first/third person instead of isometric RPG grognard. The triple whammy of activision preventing them from working on it till the end, a shared release date with halflife 2, and the combat once again sucking dick killed it.
Also, they were still willing to continue after bloodlines, but nobody was willing to take them on again when they were shopping around their ideas. Thats when they pulled the plug on the studio.
>Tim wants to patch Arcanum with some QOL/compatibility for modern OS >Current publisher for that release doesn't want to bother with it
publishers holding dead IPs they dont care about hostage is just infuriating. They're never going to do anything with it since they consider it unviable. But they're also unwilling to either just sell it to someone or extend a licence. They turn down the only way its going to make money for them, because they want to keep it around so it can somehow make money doing nothing
>publishers holding dead IPs they dont care about hostage is just infuriating.
Tim owns the Arcanum IP these days, so he's at least free to make another game in that unvierse if he so desired, it's just that specific PC release he doesn't have the licensing rights for.
I know the guys at Beamdog, who did the Enhanced Editions for Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale, and Planescape Torment, floated the idea of doing a similar remaster of Arcanum. I think it was pointed out that since Activision owns it now it's unlikely to ever happen, plus Beamdog has only ever handled Infinity Engine games so who knows how they would do with Arcanum. Either way, it would be nice to see that happen.
True, played it on the 360 after finding it and two worlds in a bargin bin at gamestop for around 5$ I think. Cashier tried to get me to buy other games instead. Frick I love jank. That and MGS2 gave me a thing for buff blonde women.
Seriously why are there NO espionage or secret agent games besides this one? Splinter Cell never really fit the bill (as you're more of a spook) and MGS went way beyond the scope of any 007 type movie. This game was most certainly flawed but it stuck to landing at what it was going for.
Hitman devs are making a 007 movie with a OC as Bond, considering Hitman has been the closest thing to a actual bond game, it may be great.
Too bad it has been almost 4 years now since they announced and we still got absolutely nothing.
At the moment it's because the spy genre isn't really huge anymore like it was years ago. Sawyer talked briefly about how he's wanted to make another spy game but debated whether it would have any success at all because Gen X was the last gen to really be infatuated with spies.
>you can work with a mudslime terrorist that's killed white westerners >one of the factions leaders has a 14 year old bodyguard that he groomed >you can get raped, and depending on your dialog choices, the rapist can tease you about actually enjoying it.
You wouldn't be able to make this game today.
>do everything to romance the redhead >be at her hotel >shes vulnerable for the first time >talks about how she is happy she can be straight with someone after hiding behind a facade for years >lets herself become vulnerable by saying she loves you >tell her no >you can pinpoint the moment her heart breaks
>download it >mouse sensitivity is genuine dog shit >doesn't matter if i lower or increase it
can't recall shit beyond that, might have to give it another go if it's a known issue like dead space
>You must have thought about it >When it was all over. >You were the big hero, saved all of Rome >When things were quiet, no one shooting at you >No bomb >What did you think about then?
Beating Marburg to death was a treat. Blowing the back of Leland's head off was sweet too.
Best part about rome is if you save the girl instead of the people, you hear something different during the radio broadcasts that play during hte credits. The girl goes into politics and stops the increased security spending. Meanwhile, if you save the group of people at the exhibition, the ending radio mentions that the roman government just spent a ton of money on security.
People praising this game has never played it.
They probably watched some retrospective on it or something.
The game is shit. Dialogue options are cool and the outcomes are sometimes outright funny, but the game is fricking trash.
I don't care how good the story is, I will not praise an RPG with a timed four-choice dialogue system that doesn't tell you what you're actually saying. The lockpicking and hacking minigames drop it another full point, too.
This, and also the reason why NV felt a bit rush is because Obsidian team had to work on 3 different projects at the same time.
One of them was a cancelled Alien game.
I can't believe they managed to do it despite Bethesda gave them 18 months to develop NV.
uh-huh
Actual underrated game.
No we knew the jank gameplay ruined it back then too.
i enjoyed it by going super pistol man
i did hear every other gun type was trash though

i think my favorite was pissing off the one guy in rome and when he showed up to try and kill me i just filled his cranium with lead
Every weapon type gets good after you level them up. Pistol is just the one that let's you freeze time and kill 6 people simultaneously.
looks like a grimmer tonyhawk underground game tbdesu
It was simply the style at the time
he just chose to post one particular gunfight arena. The game has much better looking maps than that
it did a poor job of marketing itself and a poorer job of letting the player know that there was actual differences between different choices.

Mass Effect 2 was the one that came out in the year Alpha Protocol came out. And Dragon Age Origins came out prior.
And it was meant to come out in 2009 but got pushed back 6 months, so I ended up trying Origins in spite of it's terrible 'New Shit' marketing.
Sorry, I did mean 2 because unlike ME1, 2 removed every RPG element and turned the Role-playing into Infamous with its evil/good moral system
It's pretty jank-ass but it's still fun
This is one game that would really benefit from a remake.
Who are you quoting, redditor?
>shitty gun mechanics
>stuck in the early 2000s 'brown everywhere' phase
>still kino
how did they do it?
It had better choices/consequences and roleplay aspects than Cybercuck and BG3. The gameplay was bland though. Had it received help from a bigger studio and it was polished, it would've been remembered better
one of the worst rpgs ever made.
Claimed.
>get ambushed on a boat
>shoot them
>ask her what the frick is going on
>gives me the silent treatment
>well, she shot at me first, cant afford to let her live
>shoot her
>albatross calls me, is all mad
>tell him what i did was 100% reasonable
>he cringes, he knows im right but also hates me for being right
>killing Sis
What a homosexual. I figured she was mute the moment she made no sound
I figured she was some autist assassin that was afraid of speaking up. Anyway, you were shooting at me and didnt give me a chance to explain myself. Dont be butthurt when you get shot by someone you were trying to kill
They should make an Alpha Protocol gacha so the Ganker thread doesn't instantly die
Would
>Safe horny
>It's pretty good
Did
Yup. Its a shame these kinds of games kill their studios.
I'd say bloodlines killed troika, it was much more expensive to make, I feel like if they kept making isometric games like arcanum they would've lasted a few more years (not long though)

luv sis
luv heck
luv brayko
simple as
while brayko is pretty funny and great whne you use him on the scummy lawyer, he's still a psycho
>It was actually pure kino.
>MC gets raped by a femoid
I wish, if you resist she wont force herself on you
>gameplay sucks
>dialogue wheel
>cringe story
>you can work with a mudslime terrorist that's killed white westerners
>one of the factions leaders has a 14 year old bodyguard that he groomed
>you can get raped, and depending on your dialog choices, the rapist can tease you about actually enjoying it.
You wouldn't be able to make this game today.
>I don't need you for sex, I already have my mom
What did Alpha Protocol mean by this?
>do everything to romance the redhead
>be at her hotel
>shes vulnerable for the first time
>talks about how she is happy she can be straight with someone after hiding behind a facade for years
>lets herself become vulnerable by saying she loves you
>tell her no
>you can pinpoint the moment her heart breaks
I gather you wanted to plat as a Femme Fatale
my condolences
No, i just wanted to see how she would react if you strung her along until she finally decided to trust you
>download it
>mouse sensitivity is genuine dog shit
>doesn't matter if i lower or increase it
can't recall shit beyond that, might have to give it another go if it's a known issue like dead space
SO TURN UP
THE RADIO
the gunplay is absolute ass
This is probably the best James Bond game we got or will ever get. Whoever doesn’t like it is a huge homosexual.
>You must have thought about it
>When it was all over.
>You were the big hero, saved all of Rome
>When things were quiet, no one shooting at you
>No bomb
>What did you think about then?

The game is shit. Dialogue options are cool and the outcomes are sometimes outright funny, but the game is fricking trash.
Not just the dialogue options, emails use the same system and every choice is a perk + and -
Like piss off your handler Mina enough that she hates you and your cooldowns for abilities is way quicker.
One of the dev team spoke about how the choices and outcomes was a 'hentai-tentacle' like mass.
I played it on release
Its kino
Deal with it homosexual
I don't care how good the story is, I will not praise an RPG with a timed four-choice dialogue system that doesn't tell you what you're actually saying. The lockpicking and hacking minigames drop it another full point, too.
>have to play game with a dictionary to look up some of those dialogue option adjectives
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
couldn't see it at the time because it was buggy as frick, crashed all the time and the rpg mechanics were ass
Who are you quoting?
>gets overshadowed by their own fricking game
kek
Being part of an established franchise probably helps

OK game, but the opening chapters are lousy. And some areas have annoying "best outcomes" (like Russia).
looks like the kind of meme game that's taylor-made for reddit
