People either want extreme but boring realism (Gran Tourismo), Open world but no gunz (Forza Horizon), Open world with gunplay (GTA) or just funny kart racers (Mario Kart), you don't have much in the way for more arcadey/in between racers anymore. Sure, there's a few indies, but making a car game even with arcadey physics is a hassle.
RIP 90s arcade racer or whatever that SCUD race look alike was called and became vaporware.
GT 1-3 were the antithesis of realism, in regards to physics. GTs core purpose is collectathon. I had friends that would play for hours just to fill their garages.

Rush was the beginning for open world racers if anything, its tracks were all mini-sandboxes.
>Midway had lighting in a bottle >decide to frick it up
No wonder why these frickers aren't around anymore. The only series to truly rival SEGA in the 90's.
Technically it was atari (the arcade company, which was sort of midway but west coast at that point), but it more or less died because the devs shut down, and then the rights holders decided to chase after midnight club for LA rush.
Would love to have a Rush 2 remaster. Sucks it only came out for N64. I swear i remember playing it in an arcade once though but have never found a rom for it.
I've been in contact with this dude, he has his head up his ass and doesn't take many recommendations/advice, plus is completely and relentlessly adamant about shilling the N64 versions of the games, which just makes me believe that he's a Nintendogay of the worst kind.
Great series
Doin' time doin' time on the Rock
That shit always made me laugh BITD.
Rush and 2049 are some of the best non-Japanese arcade racers, what the frick happened afterwards?
The dev went bankrupt and then LA Rush happened and was some dumb open world thing
I mostly meant the genre as a whole

The developers sure are optimistic about not having druggies everywhere in 2049. Guess we'll see in 23 years.
>in the future, there will be flying cars
Technically, the wing shit was only in the console versions, the arcade original had none of that shit.
It was the 90s.
You mean 25
WhAS YO NAME?!?
spell it
Did anyone actually use the clutch on the arcade version? I'm not sure if it actually did anything
Improves your airtime

Hard/Race Drivin' did it earlier

My friends and I spent years dicking around on the stunt map, now I do pretty much the same shit in beamng.
be the change you want to see etc and start a decompiling project
>don't know how
more than enough finished project to look how

Here's the Rush the rock source code, in glorious C.
Not sure if much can be done though
I wonder how difficult it'd be to make it handle well on modern controllers (no, not like Rush 2)
So far, no one has really done anything with the code. Rush just doesn't attract source port autism.
Rush fans would rather just remake the games

>amateurish clay-like vehicle "models" with ridiculous reflections and no sharp edges
Disgusting
>Based on the Console versions
Absolutely fricking disgusting, get that shit out of here.

Cart Fury is the only good Midway/Atari racer, the rest are shallow spectacle games for bored normies.
