Since before 2007.
Back when he announced it in 2007 he claimed that the script was already 90% complete, so he must have started long before that.

OGG, 2nd OG, and Moon Dwellers for me. Hopefully they're working on English releases for Steam and next-gen consoles and that's the reason we haven't heard much on the OG front.
fun fact, my autism demands that before playing a cross over i watch every anime and play every game that is referenced, and therefore i have never played SRW because it has far too much stuff and a thousand lives would not be enough
This group. https://www.romhacking.net/community/1191/ Dunno if they're still around, I mean their last release was W in 2022, but their website is dead. Though through webarchive it looked like they were translated F and Xenosaga DS but that was back in 2014 and there's been no progress on those at all.
Honestly I would go with OGs on ps2. It's an expanded remake of OG1 and OG2 on GBA (which are good starting point too) and allows you to get a taste for the series gameplay without any licensed series in (so the story is "original"). And Battle Masteries/Skill Points will provide an extra challenge so it's not braindead easy
Or if you want to play a game with actual anime series in it then J or W. You could also pirate V or X on pc.
What about Z? Also heard good stuff about Endless Frontier but that's more of a spin-off or something?
Not translated yet unfortunately even though Z1 is considered very good
I love EF but they are JRPG spin-offs and aren't really representative of the series so they're not a good starting point
You don't got too many options but OG on the PS2 is probably the best way to be introduced into SRW games, at least if you don't care about licensed series.

Seconding this, but if you do want licensed series then I would recommend W. It's a bit on the easier side but a great ride regardless. You'll probably like it even more if you like Gaogaigar or Tekkaman Blade.

recommended, it's pretty much a good combination of gameplay mechanics they used throughout the series up to that point.
OGs, W, J, Alpha Gaiden
and if you can tolerate learning how to navigate menus in Japanese or using Akurasu as a guide: OG Gaiden, 2nd OG, OG Moon Dwellers, Z, Z2 (both of them), Alpha 2, Alpha 3, MX, Impact (once you're more experienced with the series, and don't mind the excessive load times and slower pacing)
You will miss some references but they're still pretty standalone
You don't need previous knowledge to play the Endless Frontier games. Just know that even though they bear the Super Robot Taisen name, they don't have a lot to do with them aside from some original games of the SRW games making appearances as cameos or summons.
These being RPG spin offs are pretty different but I guess that means you can just jump into them without feeling you're missing out.
There are concepts and people you might not understand but yeah, no need to play them.
Excellent.
Thanks for the good news. I am now a Super Robot Wars fan.
>they don't have a lot to do with them aside from some original games of the SRW games making appearances as cameos or summons
I meant, original mechs, my brain farted for a while.
Yeah, jump into them if you're interested.
The second game Exceed never made it here but got fantranslated with the soul of the first game so you can play that too.

Actually, I can play it regardless because I know Japanese!

>sold worse than the first game even though the gameplay was an objective improvement
But why?
Is it much better than 1 if I thought going through 1 was a slog because everyone was just too beefy and it took way too long to get through stages even if I was always maxing out juggles?
I remember another anon forever ago saying they toned down the enemy hp, but added twice as many dudes instead?
Non-bosses can usually be downed in 1 encounter and XP gain has increased significantly for everyone in the team. Stages are also much shorter. I don't recall any stage reaching an hour unless I felt like doing the infinite SP exploit.
You've also got some other changes. You can only attack 3 times with a single pair unit but attacks you didn't use in the last battle encounter get buffed. You can spend XP to slow down time mid-combat and cross (or was it xross?) attacks work differently. It's a much faster game overall. Most importantly, all of your units act on the same turn, no longer is there a speed stat that dictates who moves when.
>The original SRWalpha will never be translated, let alone a2 and a3.
humanity has failed as a species...
Someday.
How many years has AGTP been """"working"""" on it?
Since before 2007.

>16 fricking years
Jesus christ
And here I thought those grifters working on the Fate Extra CCC translations were slow.
No, you're just a failure for not learning a language.
I mean, it has to be doing something right to be 30 games in at this point right?
>30 games
The 30 refers to the 30th anniversary of the series. There are more than 30 games.
Dumbass moment on me, my mistake
What number are they up to by now anyway?
Wasn't it 70+ already, counting all the spin-offs and side-stories?
I just want the Alpha and the Z games translated.

Play the Original Generation games then. They only feature SRW OCs.
my second brand of autism demands that i always play games in order of release.
Who were the legends that translated J, W, and OGs? Are they still around?

Wait- what?!
That actually got fully translated?
Holy shit!
Actual Men of Destiny if true.
They moved to Discord I think but yeah, other projects are pretty much dead
WHEN'S THE NEXT OG GAME BAMCO????
Regardless of preferences for series, which is the one single SWR game you should play if you could only play a single one? As an EOP of course
J
What about Z? Also heard good stuff about Endless Frontier but that's more of a spin-off or something?
Not translated yet unfortunately even though Z1 is considered very good
I love EF but they are JRPG spin-offs and aren't really representative of the series so they're not a good starting point
Z2 has a translation but Z1 doesn't? Sad
Z2 has a menu translation only AFAIK.
I can't stand the protag in J. That pussy just can't stop wimping even when he has 3 heroines ready to suck his dick
You chose the wrong one

.. Is it even statistically possible to *not* like Tekkaman Blade?
Don't ask me, Blade was one of my top 3 aces. My other 2 were Kazuma and Guy (the brave one). Boring, I know.
W.
I'm not but I am curious about something. Which SRW would you recommend based purely on gameplay?
Go with OGs on PS2 like
recommended, it's pretty much a good combination of gameplay mechanics they used throughout the series up to that point.
I'd vote for Alpha 3 or really, whatever game has most of your favorite shows or the ones you know.
Purely on gameplay?
Either OGs or MX.
MX is a game you play for the story.
Speaking of story, does anyone here know what happens in BX? I hear almost no one talk about it.
J is a snorefest. I don't know why people suggests that one.
Puzzle Robo stages are fun.
You got a good point there, I'll give you that.
I wish more games had that mode.
Who would you want for a sequel?
Getter Robo Arc so we can finally be free of Armageddon.
Isn't Super Robot Wars the franchise this girl is from?
She is incredibly hot. You had better tell me she's in every game.
I won't tell you
Sorry anon she only appears in the 2 Endless Frontier spinoffs
Damn...
Then at least tell me I can play her games without going through the other ones first.
Yes her spin offs have nothing to do with SRW as a whole aside from the occasional fan service reference.
Excellent.

>Z
>Z2
>Z2-2
>Z3
>Z3-2
Is it really that much to ask to just add a number in chronological order? I know the story is not directly connect but this is confusing as shit.
I'd rather have a complete Z2 and Z3 instead of going all the way to Z5. I still blame the PSP for this.
Project X Zone 2 is also a fun game!
>sold worse than the first game even though the gameplay was an objective improvement
But why?
People bought the first for the novelty. People didn't buy the second because they played the first.

I love that SRW30 was a great success. And a great game for that matter.
I fricking love SRW. And I want more.
