if the traded pokemon was hacked you get DQ'd. whether you knew about it or not.
Then you better make sure it wasn't hacked. There are communities that trade non-genned pokemon. Not every traded pokemon is genned believe it or not.
be careful who you're trading with then. Release obviously genned pokemon and ask your friend if they genned if they gave you something suspicious
I support genning until Pokemon makes it more accessible to edit Pokemon's IVs. Everyone who got caught cheating to deserve it because they failed to cover their bases. Gamefreak has no reason at this point to gatekeep players from things like that and it's only an issue because they have.
Note: I say this as someone who caught/bred all of my own pokemon and would pass all of kaphotics checks. I didn't keep up with playing because I didn't want to hunt for specific IVs on legendaries.
i heard that they checked the boxes of some players not just the teams they used. this is just a rumor though. an asian player said that one of the mons in his shiny living dex got him caught
I'll wait a couple weeks until things start to blow over. That's most likely when we'll know as close to the true story of why people were DQd. Gamefreak and TPC are aware that people distribute hacked mons on GTS and Wonder Trade so I highly doubt that's what triggered the ban and they're using it as an excuse.

I think their implication is that due to foreigners having to travel, Japanese players had an advantage to shift team comps/movesets while they were stuck on a plane/without access to the game. It's a really shit cop out regardless.

You lose internet access and can lose anywhere from 15-25 hours from travel. On top of that you would have to give up any time spent in Japan to grind another team while the home players were already done. Like I said, it was a shitty cop out, but that's at least what I can parse from such an opinion.
