People don't like that Windows spies on them, so they're going to stay on W7 while they continue visiting websites that spy on them and use phones that spy on them and use credit cards from companies that spy on them.

it's not even just spying. each windows after 7 gets worse and worse. 11 berates you with ads and puts a google doodle ass icon onto your startbar. you can go through the pain of disableing the autism but you still have to deal with the utter braindead design of any settings window

          >windows 7
          >want to open the proprieties of a file
          >right click file
          >click properties

          >windows 11
          >want to open the proprieties of a file
          >the basic popup doesnt list properties
          >have to click advanced options
          >advanced options is just the same popup from windows 7
          >forced to go through 1 extra set, past the pop up for braindead monkies to get any ""advanced controlls"""
          many such cases

          >trying to find the password for the wifi im already connected to
          >have to go through a frick ton of w11 settings to find the advanced settings that have what i want
          >meanwhile on w7
          >right click network
          >network properties

they go so overboard bending over backwards for drooling monkies that any basic option a is hidden from sight

          >search for something in the search bar
          >it searches fricking bing for an answer instead of files like i want

its completely made for people who never look at files, who never do anything harder than asking alexa

Because theirs a 25% chance with each update that something breaks and you have to clean install your computer (which risks losing files), you have to use some stupid ass feature you never wanted, or something else unexpected.

How long until shit like this starts happening to Windows 10? I remember reading somewhere that most tech companies (that aren't Microsoft) even admit that Windows 11 is a useless POS.

its not nostaliga. its holding onto the last decent windows
I have a pc with 7, a pc with 11 and a laptop with 10. 11 is utter dogshit and 10 is also awful but not as bad. 7 does it job and there is no reason to upgrade except israelite microsoft forcing games to use a single proprietary dll that 7 doesn't have. no, games do not benefit at all from it and its only forced by microsoft to israelite people into upgrading

Man I miss the Windows XP days of Ganker. The people who would continue to claim XP was the pinnacle of Windows (which compared to Vista it obviously was). Then these very same people eventually abandoned XP and claimed Windows 7 was the pinnacle of Windows.

Man I miss the early to mid 2000's. They were so... free. Things just started going so downhill in the early 2010's.

I was going to update my old 4790k 980ti system and decided to pull the proverbial trigger and try a modified version of win11 for shits and giggles, just to see if it was going to be worth upgrading.
Compared to Win8.1 it's much slower on a cold boot and navigation is more weird, it's laid out more like a smart phone then a PC. Plus, it will go so far as to bluntly refuse to add some 3rd party programs, it took me probably 20 tries to get it to install NP++.
Honestly it feels more like the original Win8 rather then a better Win10.
It's the soggy bread of Windows.

A method to make it use only ~50mb for you.
Downgrade/revert your client and freeze your updates by following these
    https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/6516193260166142363/
    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2967855237
    then do the following
(this only work on the update prior to 14JUN23)
Open Task Manager and select the "Details" tab
Right-click on one of the "steamwebhelper.exe" processes and click "Open file location"
In the Explorer window, right-click "steamwebhelper.exe" and select "Properties"
Switch to the "Security" tab and click on "Advanced"
Click on "Disable inheritance" and select the 1st option (conversion into explicit rights)
Double click the entry for "Users"
Uncheck the box saying "Read, Execute" (will also uncheck the 2 boxes above) and press "OK"
Repeat last 2 steps for any individual user in the list that doesn't want Chromium running
Click "OK" on this window and "OK" on the file properties
Now go up to Steam's installation directory (3 levels up) and apply the same treatment to "steamerrorreporter.exe" and "steamerrorreporter64.exe" to prevent bogus error reports to Valve.
Only downside to this is that it takes about a minute for steam to first boot up, and the GUI only works so much as to launch games from small mode.
If you don't care for that then simply reversing the above steps will allow the full GUI and webhelpers to work as normal.
