Game dropped the ball hard when it went from the good stuff in game of thrones to just another generic you have to slay god anime shit.
Still a great game with amazing music
>he thinks it had any GoT dna to begin with when even the opening largerly follows Xenogears intro conceptually, with MC unwillingly nuking everyone he held dear
The intro is very similar in the "main character's world comes crashing about him, he nukes people dear to him and has to deal with crippling guilt that only goes away once he encounters a woman perfect for him" sense
Generally it does seem to draw more from Blade 1. Some terminology parallels with XB3 are also funny (Logos/Origin)
>you have to slay god
it's an alien, it's not god at all.
An alien that, for some reason, had no idea humans have awareness despite observing them for so long? A really fricking stupid alien apparently.
is it also safe to admit that i didnt like it, and found it so bad that i couldnt even be arsed to beat the game, which rarely happens for me? last mainline i enjoyed was 12, played zodiac age on my PS5 just recently and it was great.
i enjoyed it but it felt like the boss fights dragged on too long towards the end. would prefer they went with an mp system or something other than cooldowns if they continue with the action battle system.
yeah, hopefully they change that for the next game those devs work on. Idk if a tutorial pop up mentions it, but clive's regular parry speeds up cooldown timers. Only found out cause I like clash parries over a regular block button parry in action games.
I would hope they'd take some inspiration from Strangers and go for a job system, maybe keeping summons in a similar fashion but only letting them affect elements/damage types. Menu combat like KH wouldn't be a bad direction either considering how many devs they borrowed from that franchise
Honestly this. I can't think of a good homosexual in western media. I cringed when he was showing affection to his squire butt buddy because I'm not into that shit, but Dion was a great. Well executed Fujo bait.
>acts like a normal person >his boyfriend is his best friend, not some frickboi >basically does everything to fix his mistake and give his life to the realm
100% sure he didnt die.
It's a shame if he is dead because the minute he killed his father and destroyed most of his kingdom, his actual character arc actually starts. He physically might've killed his fathers, but emotionally he is still shackled to him and we are given no real resolution to him realizing that his father was a monster that only loved him (for a while) because he was a powerful weapon. It makes his last words about his father really offputting, because we aren't given any reason to root for his father, or even think that his father's death was a thing Dion needed to really atone for to the point he kills himself.
Though I've heard that instead of saying '' it is done, Father '' in Japanese his last words are '' this is me, Father '' which feel better given the situation.
It was a fine game. I'd be up for another game like it with more refined/expanded combat (DEATH TO STAGGER MECHANICS) but not a sequel to XVI, more like a Valestheia spin off
>awful area to explore >DMC for toddlers >the worst sidequest in FF history >only good music were the eikon battle >no party member >we want le westoid audience >the rpg element are nowhere to be seen

>I've kinda moved on from FF because they take so frickin long to make 'em
They're nice to check out, but quality is all over the place, and every release is a guessing game whether it'll be shit or good. >Trails is much better
Are there any Trails games that feel like the three Trails in the Sky ones? I tried Cold Steel, but at the time the animation quality pissed me off so I couldn't get into it. Unclear if the writing is better or worse from what I've seen mentioned on Ganker.
I never denied it, just some sour grapes PC gays that can't wait for their turn, obsessed FF-bullshit schizos, and doomsissies. I can't wait for the the new DLC. Was waiting for it before I even touched the first. Wonder if there will be any base game balance or difficulty changes as I think that would be one of my biggest nice to haves.
I didn't but it was at least better than XV and XIII so I'll give them credit for moving in the righr direction. I want XVII to have a real party and the combat system from Rebirth though or I ain't buying it.
For me, I honestly can't believe the guy that did the ff14 soundtrack made this ost. I didn't think he could do an actual mainline ost, but it's insanely good. >reee 14 is mainline
I don't care, mmo has a different context that allows pretty much anything, a single player game requires more focus of intent.
Soken can only make hype and memorable battle music everything else he suck at meanwhile Nobuo the god can make amazing town, event, worldmap, goofy, battle music pretty much everything
You are so wrong and 16 proves it. It's filled with mellow acoustic guitar tracks, and all the zone exploration music is not epic, but beautiful and moving, like ff music should be.
>Kingsfall
I genuinely think about this track all the time. The melody is so beautiful.

Clive was a great protagonist and the Eikon battles were fun. I'll always say that XVI is a great game but I can understand others not liking it as much since it deviated more than usually from past games, but if that was a major sore spot for you I don't think final fantasy is the series for you.
Where have all these shill threads come from? You guys are just shilling the game at this point, there is no genuine discussion. The story is abject dogshit and, the gameplay is too shallow for how long the game is.
All shilling posts are from one guy, he also the same Anon who keeps spaming FF7 is underperforming thread. Nobody actually likes 16. Don't let Yoshidatroon bait you. The game is fricking trash
Really makes me wonder what SE plans to do with all the tech and talent they got from FFXVI. Supposedly a non-FF mainline game, but that could be 3-4 years away minimum.
most of the devs for 16 already moved on and CBU3 is already working on a new game that likely isn't FF (or at least mainline). there's also the FF14 shadowbringers and endwalker writer who's been absent from anything CBU3 worked on since, so people are assuming she's working with whoever is making FF17
I wish Square didn't lock their hard modes behind NG+ only for them to be mostly really easy too. I feel only Lightning Returns did that right because the game had way more going on anyways and was built for replays.
The result is that you're stuck with journo mode for the first 40 hours and it fricking sucks.
I didn't but I know that I will once it comes to PC. I can't wait, so few good games left out there to play in recent years. Only older stuff is worth playing in 2024 with very few exceptions.
I hated it and it put me off ever trying 14. 13 and 15 at least had proper parties, even if 13's cast was mostly boring. DMC-lite combat can't sustain a 50 hour game
game has some flaws, but I could fix some of the issues very quickly >remove like the first 4 side quest >make bosses hit like 2x harder

It's always safe to state the truth anywhere on Ganker because it's an ANONYMOUS imageboard and nothing you say can harm your reputation or whatever. Any attempts to conform to a standard or follow a herd are foolishness.
With that said, ff16 is a mediocre videogame with an insultingly bad story and characters.
>you have to slay god
it's an alien, it's not god at all.
An alien that, for some reason, had no idea humans have awareness despite observing them for so long? A really fricking stupid alien apparently.
I will never forgive yoshi-p for basically saying >woah that was fun, okay im done with this world.
when the setting and the lore is so fricking rich. (something we never fricking get in ff games).
>when the setting and the lore is so fricking rich.
huh? It's one of the most standard medieval fantasy lands ever made. The only thing special about it is the whole thing with the aliens and crystals, which isn't unique at all.
isn't that what FF is all about tho? I like the setting too but the series' biggest issue since X was that the games would keep getting more content and sequels. I get it for the mmos, but there's no reason every other game including VII needed to get sequels or other multimedia.
Well, it helped when back in 90s and 2000s when you had tons of Final Fantasy game thrown at you. These days they put tons of money and time into developing one mainline title, and it feels like a waste to abandon it when nothing new is coming in the near future.
It's funny you say that when almost every spinoff or sequel has been pretty bad in comparison to the original. I did like X-2, but it was completely unnecessary and alot of the additional book shit was also terrible. Then there's VII with the tons of spin-offs and random attachments, the decade of Lightning.
I do wish that they learn from XVI and did more with it but it didn't make as much of a splash as they wanted so even if there are stories to tell, it's probably better to just release an encyclopedia book like how they do with XIV to answer any remaining lore questions and tidbits.
X-2 and XIII-2 were both good additions to me (outside of X-2 '' perfect ending '' ruining the entire story of X but I'm not sure who should be blamed for that).
I like the characters, world, lore, and music. I hated the battle system, the story, and the extremely oppressive and downer beats of the storyline. Never did beat it, I’ll wait to give it my full attention on steam or hopefully Xbox someday.
The tone of the game is pretty oppresive, but coming off of rebirth I think the game carved its own vibe that worked for it but wouldn't work anywhere else. And thats fine.
The tone of the game is pretty oppresive, but coming off of rebirth I think the game carved its own vibe that worked for it but wouldn't work anywhere else. And thats fine.
Yeah it's a downer until you go to the hideaway or one of the towns and see the people just tryna fricking LIVE
Did anyone else feel like Joshua was gay too? He spent a lot of time hanging out with Dion and has a total brother complex for Clive. Maybe I’m just too fujoshi brained.
Joshua is just a brocon, and Dion IS his stepbrother. Otherwise I never got any other vibes from him, he is too gentlemanly and gentle with women to be a complete gay anyway.
The fire dodge made the game way too easy, not really sure what they were thinking with that. I also made the mistake of not bothering to do any of the sidequests. I was going to save them for Hard mode, but I came to learn that Hard mode wasn't nearly as cool as I figured it would be so I didn't bother.
What fire dodge?
There's a ton of things that make the game way too easy. The worst offender is probably the Ifrit ability that shields you with fireballs.
It was an ability that gave you more iframes while dodging and increased your attack after performing the dodge, it had like a slowmo effect and hardly any cooldown.
Oh you mean the berserker ring?
I actually think that's less effective than the normal dodge because it hinders your limit guage rate. Not that it really means anything.
I really did like ff16's combat, it's a shame you don't ever really get to utilize it to it's full potential.
fun but mostly combat focused and centered entirely on the fallen. there's a lot of cool equipment they add and it has some of the best fights in the game. it's short though and if you're trying to check it out, I'd suggest waiting for leviathan to drop next week and to just do both
I loved it
Bahamut boss fight was pure KINO
I didn't really care for the eikon fights
Liked every else though
It was the opposite for me
The duolingo of man
Is it wrong?
Definitely the best Final Fantasy since FF12
True
xii is a pretty low bar in terms of storytelling and characters
Yeah, considering the rest of the series is the lowest common denominator of JRPGs, it was easy to one-up it.
XIV is the best mainline since XII but if you mean single player then yes.
I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed 15 too.
FF7R can go die in a fire for being an obvious cashgrab KH-style mess
the first FF7 Remake is barely even a game
It really is. It's literally the tutorial level from the original repackaged as a "game"
The problem with KH was never the gameplay, but the absolute dogshit story telling.
Not gonna lie, ff 15 and 16's combat is far more closer to KH style than 7Re, anon
then you are massively moronic 7r is LITERALLY a kh clone
?
I know for sure you never played neither remake nor rebirth, but at least watch some battles on youtube
Ffxvi is literally KH but without the MP bar. Insteadbit has cooldowns
you're so stupid I don't even need to reply to tell you you're wrong someone's done it for me
There are numerous videos available that highlight the similarities between the battle systems of KH and FFXVI
Game dropped the ball hard when it went from the good stuff in game of thrones to just another generic you have to slay god anime shit.
Still a great game with amazing music
Fairly sure the "humbler beginnings" were there to make the crazy shit stand out.

FFXVI is similar to Xenogears? That's new.
Ultima surely is similar to Zanza
The intro is very similar in the "main character's world comes crashing about him, he nukes people dear to him and has to deal with crippling guilt that only goes away once he encounters a woman perfect for him" sense
Generally it does seem to draw more from Blade 1. Some terminology parallels with XB3 are also funny (Logos/Origin)
It basically has the same final boss/ending of XB1
>you have to slay god

When is the steam port? IDGAF about FF7, gimme Clive on a platform I don't hate
>When is the steam port?
It's in the last stages of optimization.
also expect it to drop on EGS before Steam
i enjoyed it but it felt like the boss fights dragged on too long towards the end. would prefer they went with an mp system or something other than cooldowns if they continue with the action battle system.

This has to be the only game I have ever played where the gay guy is actually one of the coolest and best character of them all.
the only other one I can think of is sylvando from dragon quest 11. strange that they're both square tho
I was honestly surprised that japan can write better gay characters then the west.
Honestly this. I can't think of a good homosexual in western media. I cringed when he was showing affection to his squire butt buddy because I'm not into that shit, but Dion was a great. Well executed Fujo bait.

Poor form. No way it comes out in summer, right when they are releasing the MMO expansion.
3-6 months after DLC or around year after original release I'd reckon. No doubt some PS contract to be considered.
It was 6 months esclusive
I think it will get pushed back just because they will want Rebirth on PC first to pump the sales up for it.
Nah, Rebirth just dropped a month ago. They still need to make at least one story DLC for that before moving it on pc
It just looks like xiv but worse somehow.
Will 16gays still make a thread like this if Rebirth didn't flop?

there is always 1 ending in FF
Fapped multiple times to Clive. Am I gay?
No Jill, you're fine.
You're just human.
Incredible that FF still has the best music, 20 years later
Titan is where the game peaked and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
This had so much style that the rest of the game was lacking, especially the music.
The Bahamut fight was better.
It's hype factor.
>not odin
>not bahmut
for me its barnabas and typhon
HEART OF STOOOOOOONE
You know that feeling of adrenaline where your fingertips shiver and feel alive? Like you can feel the nerves under your skin alive.
FFXVI gave me those rushes and I rarely get to enjoy those these days
I enjoyed the comat in Rebirth more, real time with pause is more fun to play than an action agme for a smooth brain like myself.
game is fun, but it doesn't mean that the developer that made the game should be respect, in fact bg3 was reviewed better.
Try again in English

>X-2
>good addition
Begone
Yoshi p did say that game suck without any difficulty....probably too late for dawntrail but maybe his next project
DLC next week. Already confirmed we will get another power other than Leviathan, what is going to be?
The power of friendship
Ultima's power.
ultima's. which will likely be a stance like odin and leviathan
Ultima/Sancta's power
Power of sidequesting. Complete every sidequest to get the most fun abilities in the game.
Yeah it's a downer until you go to the hideaway or one of the towns and see the people just tryna fricking LIVE
I liked it as an action game.
I hated it as a Final Fantasy game.
Can ANYONE name a single thing that feels like it's from the director Takai, who did last remnant? Cause I frickin cant.
I want Clive to rape me
Did anyone else feel like Joshua was gay too? He spent a lot of time hanging out with Dion and has a total brother complex for Clive. Maybe I’m just too fujoshi brained.
He is in love with Scrote.
Might as well since he never had sex with Jote.
Joshua is just a brocon, and Dion IS his stepbrother. Otherwise I never got any other vibes from him, he is too gentlemanly and gentle with women to be a complete gay anyway.
Sexo
The best boss fight was Odin.
Is it safe to say that here?
I probably will, but I wont know until its on pc, since Im not buy a PS5 for 2.5 games
How's the first DLC? I wanted to wait until both were out before getting them.
fun but mostly combat focused and centered entirely on the fallen. there's a lot of cool equipment they add and it has some of the best fights in the game. it's short though and if you're trying to check it out, I'd suggest waiting for leviathan to drop next week and to just do both
