It's one of the best JRPGs ever. The main character's hair animations are fricking awesome, the way his hair always whipping around and getting blown back during action (which is all the time) is really impressive
>The story is absolute trash though, if you don't mind that.
I honestly don't get people who DO mind that. It's not a VN, you get one cutscene every 5 hours or so past the beginning. People have just gotten used to the 3DS SMTs with the VN cutscenes and expected V to be the same.
Personally, I like the story. It's interesting and acts as an accessory to the gameplay instead of the other way around. It doesn't have any potholes or tonal inconsistency so I can't even understand calling it the worst SMT story
My main problem is you really dont get a reason to care for any of the alignments, especially considering all talk of taking over the throne is only really intoduced at the 3/4 mark, by which point you really haven't had many run ins with your supposed allies and to why you should pick them. It lead to me actually being a Lawgay for once
Your really picking the allignment end for yourself this time around not for your friends. They're all "good" endings for the world. Well except neutral going all SMT1 scorched earth

Yeah but they should be selling me on why their ideology is any good.
Destroy the Throne isn't awful, it's pretty bad initially but it does offer hope as humanity eventually overcomes the demons and can begin moving forward.
Worst ending is Chaos, sure the polytheism sounds good and all but it'll just loop into monotheism eventually as the minor pantheons get wiped out by their larger rivals. That'd include the shinto crew, who were the ones pushing for this

True, V's chaos is probably the least bad chaos ending though since society still exists and it's a God focused chaos rather than letting demons go wild.
Iv probably has the best story in smt mainline unless we are counting sj.
But they very clearly were making v as nocturne 2.0, and fittingly it's story and characters are almost as bad as nocturnes
If you want actual good stories and characters the spin offs have always been the way to go, dds, tbh, soul hackers etc
The only saving grace of SMTIVA is the fact that you can kill all of the homosexuals that forced you to listen to their gay bullshit throughout the entire story. Dagdabros won.
it's good but not great. It's not even a question of polish, the games pacing is fundamentally fricked, there's only 1 actual dungeon and it doesn't utilize its cast well enough
But it plays like a dream and seeing all the demons running around the world is great. Could do with a second go like Apocalypse had to fix up 4's problems (just without doing all the mistakes Apocalypse made)
It has 3 classic SMT dungeons, but every area of the game is like a dungeon. The most similar SMT game world-wise is Strange Journey, where you have a hub area and venture into different sectors to explore. Which makes sense, as both games are made by Etrian Odyssey team that also use that model.
Temple of Eternity essentially has no enemies for the second half (you're meant to avoid the Chi You's) and I wouldn't call Empyrean a dungeon. The school is alright but a bit short and has no boss fight
The overworld is the appeal in general, but it needs the contrast of compact dungeons with puzzles to solve
>there's only 1 actual dungeon
There's absolutely at minimum two. I remember the red one and the one on the way to Satan. There might have been a third, but it's been a long time since I played it.
There's Demon King's Castle with Arioch at the end which is decent enough
There's Temple of Eternity with Metatron at the end which is more of just a large area. Towards the end the enemies are explicitly obstacles and you should be running from them, it feels halfbaked

The bosses are beefy because you have way more options than ever. I think bosses should have been made beefier, on my last playthrough Hydra died in 5 turns without ever even attacking once and I was underleveled. Likewise with the SP cost being much higher, I think the game's move economy is much better balanced where super strong skills have much more limited ability to cast. Stuff you could spam in other games you have go actually think about or have more economic options. You have way more control than ever over fusing demons and maintaining demons and God I love the demon affinity system from IVA, it's the best addition to the series.
>but giving everyone 8 free crits by default basically invalidates every other option
Having your entire party resurrected and back to full health can mean a lot more than 8 critcs
I dunno maybe on hard but there weren't many fights were I had to do use something like that or I'd wipe on normal. Basically just Shiva at the end, and even then I beat it on like my 2nd attempt only using the crits.

The only one I used on my hard play through aside from critical was dance while I had Alice and it ended up just making fights more difficult than just using critical.
>It was pretty good, but definitely felt much shorter than previous entries
?
Maybe iva and strange journey but 1,2, and iv (non neutral route) are not crazy long games for jrpgs. And nocturne is only about 40 hours long, probably 25 hours of which is just unskippable random encounters because estoma doesn't work correctly.
Smt has never been a dragon quest 120 hour slogfest
>SMTIV released on the 3DS on May 23, 2013 >the PS4 came out on November 15, 2013 >morons bought it thinking SMTV would then come out on the PS4
????????? kek actual morons
Play an non-patched version on PS5 via disk and it's pretty good. Was definitely the worst of the trilogy though, mainly for technical reasons to do with input and camera.
You know what everyone is talking about when they refer to SMTV's level scaling. It's easiest to call the system level scaling because everything in battle is related to your level compared to the enemy's.
that entire category has always been a joke ever since its inception. it's basically "indie darlings that suck as games" they couldn't nominate anywhere else.
>Only game anyone knows on there is GVH >Known for being a joke of a game that somehow got onto the PS5 announcement reel and had its thunder stolen by a bunch of autists on Ganker
How come no one else tries to do jrpgs with weird settings. Its either fantasy or space opera. There is Like A Dragon but i dont wanna play a jrpg that requires 50 sequels to get the full story.
Anyway i heard it has zero story, that might be one of the reasons. You got so little context for stuff.
The sequel is throwing that away and bringing it back. Its also a sequel so the first one doesn't complete the story. Regardless Like A Dragon should really be its own thing ever game, i dont wanna keep uo with plots between 80 hours games.
>You got so little context for stuff.
Context is quite literally the only thing you get. The entire story is just background info. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but it fits the game IMO. You almost exclusively interact with demons, because they're everywhere on the overworld and give you sidequests, and only move through outlandish demon territory, that at some point you really become detached from the human world and stop feeling like you're one of them. Every time humans are on the screen, it feels like they're the alien creatures and not the literal deities, demons and divas.
SMT3 did this better because there are only a few other humans . Every time you meet back up with them, you can tell they've been through some shit like Chiaki getting her arm ripped off between seeing her. In SMT5, out of nowhere, story shit will get introduced just to later be resolved in like a few hours to then never be heard from again.
Both these games went from front page news to "Literally what" in like a week. In my opinion, it probably didn't help that EA insists on staying in the same boring time period where the good guys are fated to lose because no one can beat Vader until Luke shows up.
there is an entire board on this website for people to continue talking about games 30+ years after release meanwhile people run out of things to say about modern games in less than a week
>played through XIII twice >almost feeling the urge to play through XV a second time >feel like I will never be able to stomach playing through XVI again
This game was such a dull slog to get through.
I got the game specifically for the action, and I think the game is shit. There's plenty good about the combat system, but it has enough issues and is similar enough to DMC5 that now that I've finished it I have no desire to ever go back to it when I could just play DMC5 instead, and that's how I feel about what I would consider the best part of the game, all that surrounds it is a lot worse.
DMC5 is better, I agree. But actually having an action game that at least understands the fundamentals in 2023 that isn’t DMC or bayonetta feels like a blessing, even if it falls short of both series. It has pacing and exploration issues but I actually liked the story and characters a lot so I came away from the game happy. If they can fix the scoring in arcade, add more to clive’s moveset, add more s rank hunts and the ability to rematch them, and let us skip phase transitions for bosses, I’d be fully satisfied.
God the enemy design is such garbage. Hate DMC style combat so much for the "just optimize your combos" meme. There is no fricking dance in this, the foes just stand around most of the time and/or you slow them down.
>finally make fully designed dungeons in Persona 5 >ruin them with the cover system that makes it impossible for enemies to attack first
They dropped the ball so hard I would genuinely rather they go back to procedurally generated for the next one than repeat P5's dungeon traversal.
It seems like something they added as they thought it'd add to the thief aesthetic, it'd certainly make less sense for SEES or the Investigation Team to do it
There's two school sections and they take 20 minutes combined. There's also no dating sim shit.
I'm talking more about the map being dreadful to navigate from SMT4 and being stuck with some of the most useless supporting characters imaginable. it also doesn't help that some story part come out of left field. I'm still confused on what the frick they were thinking with Lady Joker.
It can't truly be as awful as SMT4, a game that expected you to be familiar with the layout of Tokyo to navigate and the only help being the occasional npc that gives mostly useless directions
I played SMT4 for the first time in 2015 and went to Japan for a semester in 2020 just a few weeks before the epidemic became a pandemic and let me tell you. That fricked up map in the game helped me a lot when I chose and moved to my new place and when I visited a lot of places. I think the devs really only thought Japanese people would play that game because if you at least know a few train stations on the yamanote line it's really easy to know where to go in the game.
I was so hyped for Kingdom Hearts 3 that I went to pick it up at a midnight event and took off from work to play it. I was in disbelief at how terrible it was.
>b***h and moan about needing a sequel for years >it's a wet fart compared to the original which was already niche
i don't think this one will become a cult classic either
Just like the first game, it's a cult classic. Loved by those who played it, unknown by anyone else. Honestly it's all we could expect imo. A good sequel to a game that's been teased for a literal decade.
I think about SMT5 all the time.
But the sad fact is that the generation that made up the main SMT posters here grew up. They loved SMT3 and Strange Journey. Some liked SMT4 too, but by the time 5 came out - EIGHT YEARS after 4 - many had moved on, not just from SMT but this board and maybe video games entirely
Ok, it's been a while, and I guess I'm somewhat moronic. How the frick can lv 21 Konkubino have lv 31 and lv 36 demons? I doubt both are fusion accidents. Did he level up them with mitamas?
what the frick happened to this btw? Never played the XC games but XC2 always had threads up. Then this game came out, got like a months worth of traction, then vanished
It did decently enough, though the intentionally bland world, poor villains, dlc bait, and in my opinion worse gameplay don't lend to discussion as much.
2 has pornstars for teammates. Its not very hard to figure out why it has threads daily and not 3. Also just go into a 2 thread, its not actually about the game.
>got like a months worth of traction, then vanished
There were daily generals on Ganker for like 4 months, then people talked about it during VGAs season and then the DLC came out and there were daily generals for a week and like XB2 it gets bi-weekly schizo threads.
the fact that the game looked like OP's pic 90% of the time (the whole game is in the desert level city scape) and the protag looking like a troony didn't help at all and didnt get a purchase or even a pirate play from me.
The game is deserts for 90% of the time, since you're spending most of your time in the main areas. >area 1 is normal desert with city ruins >area 2 is red desert with city ruins and one small forest area >area 3 is white desert with city ruins and a foggy section (still a desert though) >area 4 is a white desert with city ruins and floating cubes
All that years of development hell and in the end it came and went without much echo. Granted it might be because it came out on Epic, but not Steam. I for sure dropped the idea of buying it after learning about this fact.
is this game even HALFWAY decent? I know SO is cringe incarnate and it's been since 3 or so, but I tried installing this one and couldn't stomach it at all. The characters still speak slowly and awkwardly like it's a 2012 game.
>Almost my entire circle of friends bought that dung heap and not one of them finished the game
90% of gamers don't actually beat any games they buy. just look at trophies to any game that only requires you to beat the game and look how shockingly low the percentage of players who have it is.
>Is the story good?
No. You don't really play smt for story >I also forgot how could you make monster above your level?
There's some "perks" you can buy at the cathedral of shadows iirc
Black person, no. SMT is not and hasn't ever been for story since before they added the S. It's a game about atmosphere and immersion. Did you like SJ's setting? Then it'll stay as interesting as it was at the start, maybe a little more. Did you like V's setting? Then it expands a little on that.
The won't be well written characters, deep plotlines and clever twists.
Nuwa and Raidou are likeable, kinda. They're carried 100% by their designs but their little side story is kinda cool. Otherwise yes, I can hardly even remember any other characters
All the demon characters are really well done and their stories all line up with their respective mythology. Yakumo and Dazai also good from the human side.
The only SMT games with good / interesting stories were Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2
I understand hating the ''popular thing'' because you think it makes you special, but ffs, if you want to talk about games at least get some material.
If they made the protagonist a girl, or frick even just a gender selection since he's so androgenous, it would have been a huge hit. I seriously believe this. They completely botched the free viral marketing they could have had from cosplayers and fanart. We'd be seeing daily MCxDemifiend gay art spammed here for years. A female protag also would have had the western media shill it harder.
nationwide made pilgrimage to temples of the God Susano'O because of the game
I'm jealous. Next time I go to Japan I'll do that. There aren't many good merchs for SMT5 though, I only found a lot of stuff with Jack Frost and some acrylic stands with official art of Aogami and Nahobino. These girls made their own plushes and dolls of the characters.
You're wrong, the series is popular with women in Japan and these women don't mind playing as a cute androgynous boy. A big portion of these women are fujoshi so V-kun and Aogami's meeting being a retelling of Susanoo and Kushinada's myth about their meeting and wedding is fanservice for them. SMT is niche outside of Japan and a male protagonist is seen as less risky than a female one, especially if the female MC is a masculine tomboy. Actually this also applies to the average male teenager or young man in Japan who's more of a casual player than the women I described.
>They completely botched the free viral marketing they could have had from cosplayers and fanart
They got exactly that with people online talking about how androgynous Nahobino looks and how pretty he looks.
honestly amazing the amount of morons shitting themselves over the protag being a long haired twink, it's like they've never seen any japanese media before
Nearly every big release in the past 7 or so years. Theres huge buzz around it, it comes out. People play it. Gets hailed as the second coming of christ, then after about a month or so its gone from the spotlight.
so is the "le story doesn't matter in SMT xd" pushed by people who started with Nocturne? pretty much every other game in the series places a focus on narrative, varying from good (DDS, DS1) to utter shite (IV/A, DS2)
in fact it's the only reason to play the crappy early games like 1, 2, and Soul Hackers. I don't like remakes most of the time, but those first two would be interesting to revisit considering how batshit insane they get. If done faithfully of course.
I think if a game is fun enough, "le story doesn't matter" can be a valid argument. Personally even if a story is bad, if the characters are good enough that would make me look past the bad story because I would enjoy seeing the characters interact even if the plot itself isn't interesting. Everyone has different tastes and values different parts of a video game accordingly. For example, I would never judge an Etrian game based on its story, but I do factor in the story to my enjoyment of Final Fantasy.
I like SMT V's story. It's interesting, feels like a creation myth, has great demon characters and lends itself to the gameplay which is the best part. People always talk in extremes here, but the truth no SMT game has serious complex narrative, SMT 1 and 2 have a similar amount of cutscenes compared to V. What's important to SMT is how it makes you feel and I do think people talk about V in the sense that they're looking for a reason to hate it not because it actually did anything bad.
I don't care about the story in SMT as they relate to characters or their dialogue because I think those aspects are pretty much never good. It's the feeling of the world they excel at, which is the only way I can understand people who say SMT4 is amazing but 4A is trash because 4A has a lot more dialogue surrounding your "party" (which is bad because they aren't good at it).
Funnily enough, there were two games on the 3DS that were new entries in old franchises with supposedly fantastic gameplay but abysmal writing I was interested in, and I enjoyed 4A a lot more than FE Conquest even though I was more excited for the latter.
worst part is that they say story doesn't matter while saying 4A was terrible despite it being by far the best game with it's only failure being the story.
They also praise SJ to the heavens even though it has more in common with EO (it's a much more intense dungeon crawl compared to even SMT1 or 2). Apart from the story set up and the ending all it has is dungeons.
SMTV had fun gameplay and it looked nice, but the writing and characters was beyond shit, it had no clear direction and felt very underbaked. It's only good qualities were because of it riding on the previous successes of the franchise, on its own it adds very little. The level scaling issue gives no desire to replay it, also considering you can literally just pick your ending and none of your choices matter. It was a pretty big disappointment, and it doesn't bode well for the future of SMT.
It's impressive how years later discord schizos still insist on shitposting V. The game is an ultra niche RPG yet gets the same treatment as Elden Ring or Baldur's Gate 3.
>Choice between Law, Neutral and Chaos >Game starts with Law failing >The worst sidekick sides with Law >Law's spokesperson is an insufferable b***h >Chaos is two bros who while having some flaw in their reasoning just want what's best for their people >Even Neutral gets points for having interesting characters
Did the writers want you to hate Law?
Funny enough V actually had the best Law storyline because how how much development Abdiel got. Being so much of a Lawgay that she stack overflows into being a fallen angel because restoring God's world means disobeying God's will is unironically kino.
I think it portrays YHVH in an unusually positive light as well, even though he's not actually present, that his last act was to create a world where humanity would be safe from what happened to the world reflects more positively on him than his actions in other games.
That's the exact definition of hype, mate.
Idiots get excited for a product BEFORE it comes out. Then they move on to the next thing once it comes out.
its presentation was good and graphics were stunning. But after the jizz cooled down it was just another turnbased rpg. still better than lad because of the speed and animations
it's a single player game, people stop playing it once they beat it
that's why there's no discussion of single player games more than a year old on the catalog right now
The discussion:
>My wife is so cute!
>She killed millions!
>OH NO NO NO SNOYSISTERS
>OH NO NO NO TENDIESISTERS
This
Prolonged discussion isn't about the game, but usually shitposts about the world, lore, characters or how much you want to frick them

while you are correct I feel like this is the absolute worst example you could have used
>he doesn't replay games
In this day and age? You bet people don't replay game after that initial launch window.
No it definitely came and went, probably largely due to minimal plot but it.
Was fairly well received otherwise
New vegas
This game was so fricking good. And seeing all the Persoyboys crying about how it was 90% game and not 50% school simulator made me like it even more.
It was very good but I think that second thing only happened in your head.
Was this game actually good? I can't get over how stupid the protagonist looks
It's one of the best JRPGs ever. The main character's hair animations are fricking awesome, the way his hair always whipping around and getting blown back during action (which is all the time) is really impressive

Objectively better than Chrono Trigger

You just sold the game to me.
Enjoy. Consider playing it on emulator, I've heard it's bug free and runs at 60FPS. I played the game on Switch and the performance was beyond awful.
The story can be sparse while also being good. Here, it's sparse and bad. Not that it's great in smt4/4A either.
Iv probably has the best story in smt mainline unless we are counting sj.

It's good but it runs at 18fps most of the time
jesus
It's good if you emulate it.
Its good gameplay wise, but story wise it fall off hard by part 2.
Part 2's finale is arguably when the plot actually starts though, before that it's just you bumbling through Da'at and chasing Lahmu
It's great and was Ganker's favorite game of 2021
Good gameplay, but mediocre everything else compared to previous titles.
It's basically just nocturne but better
It’s one of my favourite games ever made, I just wish it wasn’t only on the Switch.
It's nocturne but worse. Areas are extremely lazy.
Nocturne but better*. The level design is really fantastic for any RPG.
Why are you replying to me with lazy bait? Frick off
Excellent combat, shit story.
The people who worked on Nahobino’s hair physics deserve an award because the stuff almost never clips.
It was, by far, one of the worst SMT games I played having played the vast majority of spin offs as well.
Holy shit, what a massive dissapointment even after forcing myself through it and getting the stupid demi-fiend DLC.
>I can't get over how sexy the protagonist looks*
fixed
I just think he looks cool. Hair cape swordsman is peak aesthetic
Gameplay is good, story is dogshit. The soundtrack is decent, but inferior to IV/IV:A.
pretty good but a step back from 4A
It single handedly made buying Switch worth it and got me into megaten

Very good combat mechanics. Mediocre story

The bosses are beefy because you have way more options than ever. I think bosses should have been made beefier, on my last playthrough Hydra died in 5 turns without ever even attacking once and I was underleveled. MP pools being so small really sucked, or maybe it’s just that skill costs are much higher in V. It’s mainly an issue in the early game for sure.
>but giving everyone 8 free crits by default basically invalidates every other option
Having your entire party resurrected and back to full health can mean a lot more than 8 critcs

Yeah on hard you are going to need to use everything you have to beat some fights
The only one I used on my hard play through aside from critical was dance while I had Alice and it ended up just making fights more difficult than just using critical.
It was pretty good, but definitely felt much shorter than previous entries. Probably had less stuff as well.
About as long as the other games on Hard. 100% takes around 100 hours, which is pretty normal.
I like how easy it is to pick it up or replay. It's not super long but it's pretty dense.
People bought a PS3 and a PS4 just for this game.
Yea and i use it for more after
I bought a Switch for SMTV.
This, Ironically, I ended liking Shadow of the Colossus remastered far more than the last Guardian
Didn't it take them like 10 years to make this one game?
I didn't even know this came out until a couple years later. Picked it up on ebay for like $10 and it was shit
this is a cute little $20 game with some great moments, but I'd be pretty salty if I was one of those people who bought a console for it.
>SMTIV released on the 3DS on May 23, 2013
>the PS4 came out on November 15, 2013
>morons bought it thinking SMTV would then come out on the PS4
????????? kek actual morons
There are people who bought PS3 for Final Fantasy Versus XIII
What's more, Ueda just vanished from the face of the Earth.
Play an non-patched version on PS5 via disk and it's pretty good. Was definitely the worst of the trilogy though, mainly for technical reasons to do with input and camera.
I didn't even know it came out, did it just make no impact at all?
Remove level scaling and I might consider it good
It doesn't have level scaling. It has the opposite of level scaling even.
You know what everyone is talking about when they refer to SMTV's level scaling. It's easiest to call the system level scaling because everything in battle is related to your level compared to the enemy's.
starfield
This game felt unfinished, but what was there was really fun.
Probably gonna get Nocturne next Steam sale. Do I need to mod it or is it fine ootb?
You want the 60FPS mod at the very least.
Why would you want 60 fps in turn based game?
Because it makes the menus more responsive?
Huh?
You can't be serious. Don't tell me you don't know about framerate and input lag.
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Shin_Megami_Tensei_III_Nocturne_HD_Remaster
Just emulate the PS2 version Anon.
but Achievements!!
Shit's worth it for skill inheritance alone. The amount I spent going X O X O X O on this fricking game isn't funny.
It's essential to mod better quality music at least.
>draw a boy
>call it a boy
why is this allowed?
Elden Ring
Basically everything these days.
Nothing has any impact at all in or culture anymore.
What do you mean anon? Just this year we've had several
that entire category has always been a joke ever since its inception. it's basically "indie darlings that suck as games" they couldn't nominate anywhere else.
>Only game anyone knows on there is GVH
>Known for being a joke of a game that somehow got onto the PS5 announcement reel and had its thunder stolen by a bunch of autists on Ganker
some impact
What about Tunche, a game people actually played
How come no one else tries to do jrpgs with weird settings. Its either fantasy or space opera. There is Like A Dragon but i dont wanna play a jrpg that requires 50 sequels to get the full story.
Anyway i heard it has zero story, that might be one of the reasons. You got so little context for stuff.
Like a dragon is very centralized on the new MC
You only miss out on the Yakuza org backstories and the references made with the summon attacks
What's the alternative? Sequelshit? They tried that with Battlefront 2 and we know how that went.
Old republic ofc
In Dark Forces you get to win because your goal isn't to defeat the entire empire but just frick up one of their projects.
>What's the alternative?
Going far enough in the future that they can do whatever they want and even the stink of the sequels is gone.
The alternative is killing fricking Star Wars for real, jfc just let it stay dead already.
>What's the alternative? Sequelshit?
Revive Starkiller.
I played the game with my gf and we both loved it. Better than Nocturne tbh
there is an entire board on this website for people to continue talking about games 30+ years after release meanwhile people run out of things to say about modern games in less than a week
Literally "oh yeah, that happened" tier.
nice try, Barry
Absolutely obsessed. Modern FF is shit, it's time to accept it and move on
>modern
It's been shit longer than it ever wasn't.
Nice try you stupid homosexual. Now go and make another crybaby turd based thread.
true
Would be true if there wasn't an obsessed schizo making hate threads 24/7
somehow worse than 13 and 15.
Absolutely not, it's the best FF game since X even if it's not an RPG in any sense of the world.
no way, 12 curb stomps 16
>played through XIII twice
>almost feeling the urge to play through XV a second time
>feel like I will never be able to stomach playing through XVI again
This game was such a dull slog to get through.
It’s one of the best tho. FF fans can’t into action unfortunately https://youtu.be/jev6GKiUfTQ?si=wm13n9lqUGaRHZL5
?si=dRcoivdwesrvv_d9
SMT5 is them adding the worst parts from Persona and SMT4 while fricking up the good parts of SMT3. One of the biggest disappointment of this gen.
there are no dating sim shit so you're wrong
nice try tho
Yeah dating sims is the best part of persona. The worst part is the high school animu plot
The worst part of Persona is the procedurally generated dungeons.
>finally make fully designed dungeons in Persona 5
>ruin them with the cover system that makes it impossible for enemies to attack first
They dropped the ball so hard I would genuinely rather they go back to procedurally generated for the next one than repeat P5's dungeon traversal.
The cover system was pretty silly, but the dungeons themselves were alright. Hopefully in Persona 6 they stick with preset dungeons but remove cover.
It seems like something they added as they thought it'd add to the thief aesthetic, it'd certainly make less sense for SEES or the Investigation Team to do it
I'm talking more about the map being dreadful to navigate from SMT4 and being stuck with some of the most useless supporting characters imaginable. it also doesn't help that some story part come out of left field. I'm still confused on what the frick they were thinking with Lady Joker.
You spend 30 minutes AT MOST in both sections combined.
It can't truly be as awful as SMT4, a game that expected you to be familiar with the layout of Tokyo to navigate and the only help being the occasional npc that gives mostly useless directions
I'd rather have that than dealing with the awful platforming
If you got filtered by jumping in SMTV then you're room temperature (Celsius) IQ.
You must have cognitive issues if you struggled with that
I played SMT4 for the first time in 2015 and went to Japan for a semester in 2020 just a few weeks before the epidemic became a pandemic and let me tell you. That fricked up map in the game helped me a lot when I chose and moved to my new place and when I visited a lot of places. I think the devs really only thought Japanese people would play that game because if you at least know a few train stations on the yamanote line it's really easy to know where to go in the game.
certainly didn't expect any europeans after how hard they fricked that release
Well yeah, that's why I played it in 2015, I only knew the game got released in late 2014 in Europe, I thought it would never come out.
There's two school sections and they take 20 minutes combined. There's also no dating sim shit.
But they didn't add SMT4 smirk.
I loved it. My second favourite SMT game behind DDS
I was so hyped for Kingdom Hearts 3 that I went to pick it up at a midnight event and took off from work to play it. I was in disbelief at how terrible it was.
does anyone actually talk about this game anymore?
Yes, there are multiple seethe threads per day
That's Elden Ring, literally almost nobody makes TotK threads anymore, either fan nor hater
but unironically
actually just one baitposter continues to make 1 daily thread about it
I think they mostly just stick to their general now, but who knows how much of that is image dump
>b***h and moan about needing a sequel for years
>it's a wet fart compared to the original which was already niche
i don't think this one will become a cult classic either
The DLC will fix all the problems
Will it though?
>Game releases in June
>Doesn't show up in anyone's June presentation, not even Square Enix's
They sent it to die
>Had retailers cover up the part of posters that showed the game was also on switch
It already is. More so than the first game somehow
Just like the first game, it's a cult classic. Loved by those who played it, unknown by anyone else. Honestly it's all we could expect imo. A good sequel to a game that's been teased for a literal decade.
What? The game had daily threads for months
Flopped hard even if Ganker shills cried about it, dogshit translation and being inferior to the first game killed it.
I love SMT, but I found literature and film much more fulfilling than video games, so you are correct.
Ok, it's been a while, and I guess I'm somewhat moronic. How the frick can lv 21 Konkubino have lv 31 and lv 36 demons? I doubt both are fusion accidents. Did he level up them with mitamas?
Mario wonder, totk, pikman… pretty much the whole nintendo library.
>ignored it because pc port announced
>see thread
>still not released on pc
wtf
Anyone remember this shit?
one of the movie games that gave sony its reputation
still waiting for the day this gets free on plus
I was waiting on this thing for like 10 years.
Kinda sad there's no new infamous games
Also here's my entry
what the frick happened to this btw? Never played the XC games but XC2 always had threads up. Then this game came out, got like a months worth of traction, then vanished
The character designs didn't appeal to coomers
I think XC2 got extra traction from having bawds and >japanese humor
It did decently enough, though the intentionally bland world, poor villains, dlc bait, and in my opinion worse gameplay don't lend to discussion as much.
2 has pornstars for teammates. Its not very hard to figure out why it has threads daily and not 3. Also just go into a 2 thread, its not actually about the game.
>got like a months worth of traction, then vanished
There were daily generals on Ganker for like 4 months, then people talked about it during VGAs season and then the DLC came out and there were daily generals for a week and like XB2 it gets bi-weekly schizo threads.
Hey I played this one multiple times! It's not the first two Infamous games but infinitely better than capeshit like Snöy's Spider-Man 2
Should have been on PC, I did want to play it
>Emulation
Its buggy
>Its buggy
I played through the game on Ryujinx with no issue. Not sure what problems you were having.
the fact that the game looked like OP's pic 90% of the time (the whole game is in the desert level city scape) and the protag looking like a troony didn't help at all and didnt get a purchase or even a pirate play from me.
>The game looks exactly the same 90% of the time!
>but I've never played it
Hey wait a minute!
The game is deserts for 90% of the time, since you're spending most of your time in the main areas.
>area 1 is normal desert with city ruins
>area 2 is red desert with city ruins and one small forest area
>area 3 is white desert with city ruins and a foggy section (still a desert though)
>area 4 is a white desert with city ruins and floating cubes
Well yes, its post apo. Did you complain about Mad Max being desert too?
Mad max is not a 50-60 hour long game.
This. Thank God nobody would make a Mad Max video game what a fricking shitty setting
yeah it's a 20-60 hour one
And it was fantastic
where is the promised pc port homosexuals
All that years of development hell and in the end it came and went without much echo. Granted it might be because it came out on Epic, but not Steam. I for sure dropped the idea of buying it after learning about this fact.
it also is buggy and has a weaker story than the the games
semi daily threads, then absolute silence
at least the new remake is kind of good
I don't like skipping games, release 5 on PC and I will finally play 6.
>release 5 on PC
(NTA, aka Not That Astronaut)
Believe me, you do not want to play Star Ocean 5.
I don't care if its bad, i'm not skipping it, same with halo 5
is this game even HALFWAY decent? I know SO is cringe incarnate and it's been since 3 or so, but I tried installing this one and couldn't stomach it at all. The characters still speak slowly and awkwardly like it's a 2012 game.
Problem is western open world has been a disaster for JRPGs.
>Ganker's 2021 GOTY
>came and went
Bayo3 was disappointing, so it's no surprise that it was forgotten.
It genuinely killed the franchise.
Still frequemt yurigay tear threads
>Still making lesbians and troons seethe
I dunno, I think this one's gonna be around for a long time
Even Atlus pretends the game doesn't exist. They rather make more P5 spin-offs.
I remember
wtf is this
should have been another terraria-like, could've been better than starbound but somehow ended up much worse
more like starbound-like but it faceplanted even harder than starbound
completely incompetent development couldn't even get a beta into orbit.
Not hyped on Ganker but I had way too many friends excited for this just to drop it before season 1.
Almost my entire circle of friends bought that dung heap and not one of them finished the game
>Almost my entire circle of friends bought that dung heap and not one of them finished the game
90% of gamers don't actually beat any games they buy. just look at trophies to any game that only requires you to beat the game and look how shockingly low the percentage of players who have it is.
Hey, these types of morons are the ones who helps funding sequels or other games from good companies, so I'm completely fine with that.
Yeah knew a guy somehow convinced it would be good
Is the story good? I quit shortly after hydra.
I also forgot how could you make monster above your level?
>Is the story good?
No. You don't really play smt for story
>I also forgot how could you make monster above your level?
There's some "perks" you can buy at the cathedral of shadows iirc
I found strange journey interesting until that dude decided to go to the bandits on his own and quit shortly after.
Does it get more interesting?
Black person, no. SMT is not and hasn't ever been for story since before they added the S. It's a game about atmosphere and immersion. Did you like SJ's setting? Then it'll stay as interesting as it was at the start, maybe a little more. Did you like V's setting? Then it expands a little on that.
The won't be well written characters, deep plotlines and clever twists.
The entire game is a clever twist on JRPG killing God trope. The whole world is a shit show since Demifiend killed God.
>Is the story good?
Nope, and there isn't a single likeable character
Nuwa and Raidou are likeable, kinda. They're carried 100% by their designs but their little side story is kinda cool. Otherwise yes, I can hardly even remember any other characters
All the demon characters are really well done and their stories all line up with their respective mythology. Yakumo and Dazai also good from the human side.
It's not the focus but I enjoyed. Great demon characters
There's literally two threads up seething about it right now
Every single thread made about this game hits bump limit.
The only SMT games with good / interesting stories were Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2
I understand hating the ''popular thing'' because you think it makes you special, but ffs, if you want to talk about games at least get some material.
dds2's narrative is garbage
I do not recall anyone being hyped for the bureau.
>single digit fps in a fricking cinematic trailer
jesus christ
looks like it'd be a fun game though
I started replaying the game recently and I never noticed but you actually see Lucifer kidnap Aogami. I thought it was interesting
Snoy is still fricking mind broken over the fact they will NEVER get SMT5 LMAO.
How's the game? Is it still expensive? Is it ever going on sale?
Just emulate it, it's not worth the price even on sale
Why would it be worth time if it isn't worth money?
Everyone knows wars are won in a single battle
>BROWN FOREST
>YELLOW CITY
>RED CITY
>BLUE FOREST
Nah, this shit was terrible because t the music was nice
?si=S-tWiT_FVRqaa0ho
It was fricking fun. I haven't finished it.
Lmao, this game is astronomically popular with yume and fujos precisely because he's a boy. They make up like 90% of the Japanese market.
>astronomically popular
>bad sales and forgotten weeks after release
Delusional.
>bad sales
Sold better than any other SMT. And it genuinely is very popular with fujos in Japan.
>Best selling game in the series
>Fujos nationwide made pilgrimage to temples of the God Susano'O because of the game
nationwide made pilgrimage to temples of the God Susano'O because of the game
It sucked.
Shit fighter 6
so is the "le story doesn't matter in SMT xd" pushed by people who started with Nocturne? pretty much every other game in the series places a focus on narrative, varying from good (DDS, DS1) to utter shite (IV/A, DS2)
in fact it's the only reason to play the crappy early games like 1, 2, and Soul Hackers. I don't like remakes most of the time, but those first two would be interesting to revisit considering how batshit insane they get. If done faithfully of course.
>CSM
100% agree with this. At least we still have SMT3 Hardtype.
What a fricking disaster
I still like this game.
Can't believe I bought the collectors edition.
why are you black?
It's impressive how hard the game flopped.
traditional jrpgs have no reason to exist anymore
It's impressive how years later discord schizos still insist on shitposting V. The game is an ultra niche RPG yet gets the same treatment as Elden Ring or Baldur's Gate 3.
I was excited for this game until they revealed the protagonist model. Skipped it and I made the right choice
>Choice between Law, Neutral and Chaos
>Game starts with Law failing
>The worst sidekick sides with Law
>Law's spokesperson is an insufferable b***h
>Chaos is two bros who while having some flaw in their reasoning just want what's best for their people
>Even Neutral gets points for having interesting characters
Did the writers want you to hate Law?
Funny enough V actually had the best Law storyline because how how much development Abdiel got. Being so much of a Lawgay that she stack overflows into being a fallen angel because restoring God's world means disobeying God's will is unironically kino.
Yeah Abdiel was the first interesting Law rep since tbh.
Funnily enough, Abdiel and Mastema are my favorite lawgays despite being the two most opposite people personalitywise.
I think it portrays YHVH in an unusually positive light as well, even though he's not actually present, that his last act was to create a world where humanity would be safe from what happened to the world reflects more positively on him than his actions in other games.
I don't even know how this game got dlc
and why didnt the shield babe become a party member until later into the game!
>tales, trails, trials
I can't even keep them straight.
I'm sorry to hear that you're dyslexic
That's the exact definition of hype, mate.
Idiots get excited for a product BEFORE it comes out. Then they move on to the next thing once it comes out.
hogwartz
ah the forest maiden. common trope due to complimentary colors
I hesitate to call the game hyped
Was Ganker's goty for 2021 btw
its presentation was good and graphics were stunning. But after the jizz cooled down it was just another turnbased rpg. still better than lad because of the speed and animations
