>There's no forest level
That's the worst offense from RE 4. The forest on the horizon and the few trees you encounter look fricking spooky, but you immediately make it to the village and never have to go through the thick of a forest. Would have looked amazing especially with the chainsaw dude following you through the woods.
HL1 has been janky for about a decade all because of Valve refusing to really update it. The worst is one of the later bosses that refuses to jump down and fight you, forcing the player to either noclip or waste all their explosives to destroy a hole in the floor to progress. The physics throughout the game have lots of problems, to the point where boxes simply cannot be moved with the Use key anymore or they fly across the map at rocket speeds.
The only problem with Bloodborne is that the PS4 can't handle it very well. If it was on PC at 60fps it would be flawless especially with the Old Hunters DLC.
In a world where homosexuals are dominating everything, having Bloodborne at 30 fps (with some 15 fps places) still being the best game of the PS4 speaks volumes.
It's a big issue that's been talked about since release, but it will never be fixed because From knows they can just remake/remaster it and force people to pay $60 for better performance and resolution.
The chromatic aberration is the worst for me. It's fricking sickening to look at when the game runs at 10fps.
I can never really see the difference between 60fps and 30fps or whatever. My brother fell in love with this shit and bought a really expensive PC, but when I play on it I don't notice the difference either.
Graphicgays deserve to have their eyes gouged out.
No midway bonfires, no way to run past enemies in tight corridors, no roll spamming, varied and interesting bosses, open structure, no respec, no absolution, health cut in half while in soul form, no easy backstabs, no reused assets and bosses, pure kino.
Bosses in DeS are more like puzzles than the "dodge and git gud" bosses from the rest of the souls. I wish we had more bosses like this in the future From Software games.
Same here. I do enjoy a lot of the bossfights in the new games but I'm so fricking tired of them now, I want some new mechanics. I was looking forward to the jump button being an integral part of ER's combat system but no, turns out that it's just a different way to use invincibility frames and sometimes it doesn't even work properly like with Radagon.
>Jill's lockpick is nerfed, lowering campaign differences by magnitudes. >Far more linear right from the start, you HAVE to go down the mirror hall and get the Sword key right away, literally can't go anywhere else. >Mansion goes from having a realistic, modern-ish look appropriate for a house built in the late 60's to a generic haunted house with over the top 2spooky crypts and candlelit halls. >Guardhouse goes from looking like it was actually used recently (since it was) to dilapidated and old, despite being where all the fricking guards lived. >Laboratory changed from a cold, sterile medical environment to a rusty Silent Hill hellhole complete with giant fan and antique medical equipment. >Neptune's small room is changed from believable to a huge aqua ring where Neptune insta kills you on a timer like it's RE4 >Not-Nemesis Lisa, a boring piece of shit that barely does anything other than pad out the courtyard and caves, and add in pointless explanations we didn't really need in the first place. >The caves, easily the weakest area of the original game, are expanded and made even worse with even MORE box pushing. >Barry's survival is changed from subtle to a literal "Yes or No" choice. >Hunters are nerfed and censored >Introduced the casualized map system >the Library is completely butchered, the room overlooking the helipad is cut. >Self Defense items are added to make the game even easier. >Costumes from all the older games are cut and replaced with two of the worst costumes in the series and admittedly decent costumes that reference RE3 and CV. >No cool weapon unlocks like the SMG and Minimi from the PC port, just the Rocket Launcher and a burst fire pistol that's barely distinguishable from the normal Beretta. Doesn't even have the cool silver Beretta from the PS1 DC. >The only new modes are just stupid shit like turning enemies invisible and delinking item boxes, nothing like Arranged Mode or Battle Game that actually add replay value
>just play less games bro
ignore the moron. Just find out for yourself if it's not worth playing rather than having dummies like this tell you not to bother at all.
No tip needed, being the first game in the series, it's braindead easy. If you played REmake, its almost identical in mechanics minus CH and some puzzles differences.
Got it, I'm definitely gonna play it then. Thanks.
Adding to [...] >and some puzzles differences
In RE1 the puzzles are practically optional, with the reward for most of them being ammo or heals.
In REmake they are an integral part of progress.
It's cool to hear that the puzzles are optional in the original, I wonder if it actually makes the game more enjoyable.
Play with Jill first.
Remember it's a Survivor Horror: you need to evade enemies, manage your inventory and even so you'll probably die, so memorize patterns and maps and save after you have a good progress.
Will do, thanks for the tip.
play Deadly Silence and also Sweet Home
What are the differences between the original and Deadly Silence? I might take a look at Sweet Home down the line, just for fun.
>What are the differences between the original and Deadly Silence?
If you play the original mode with red blood on (you can have green blood because Nintendo), the game is practically the same but with a constantly displayed map, loaded ammo counter, and health indicator.
Pro-tip: If you have the shotgun, wait for zombies to get close, aim, press UP, and then fire for an instant kill of the zombies near you. You can instakill entire groups of zombies with a single shot this way.

>and some puzzles differences
In RE1 the puzzles are practically optional, with the reward for most of them being ammo or heals.
What puzzles even are there in the original? I mean the REmake ones aren't good but I honestly can't even remember one, I was surprised that the plaque for the crests had text implying you'd have to place them in a certain order but they just automatically went where they were meant to
90% of puzzles are just pushing blocks with the only real mandatory puzzle I think is near the end with the computer password. And since the password never changes, I haven't even done in almost 15 years.
The "puzzles" were the items you carried in your inventory, which was is why early survival horror is tied to inventory management.
If you didn't have the items or didn't get them yet, you had to either plan out a route that dodged enemies or use up precious ammo to clear unsafe hallways and rooms for multiple passes. That's why I love the Hunters so much, they are there to punish players who went around killing unnecessary enemies with their powerful weapons.
Play with Jill first.
Remember it's a Survivor Horror: you need to evade enemies, manage your inventory and even so you'll probably die, so memorize patterns and maps and save after you have a good progress.
Do not listen to this anon especially if you play as Jill. Jill was designed to be room temp IQ mode. She gets access to 2 great weapons from the start and get a lot of free handouts throughout the game. You have enough firepower to kill every lime twice over. If you want an actual challenge, play as Chris.
I'm currently playing deadly silence on DS but I didn't know they censored hunters. How did they censor them?

Disagree entirely. It's better to have a hard-to-master move that allows for sequence breaking and experimentation than to nerf it to force players to stick to the script while making it easier to perform.
Shinji said that they removed decapitation and made hesdshots RNG because he didn't want to make it too gory, but I call bullshit. I think it had to do with Japanese politics. Even to this day, Japan is still like this decapitation.
>1 button to cycle between 6 different settings constantly
also power bomb expansions are a pointless item type and just pad the item %, just like all the other metroids
RE1 and REmake are both fairly short games where the challenge is finding out what items are needed to progress and having them in your inventory to use them by making space.
Emulate RE1 for PS1 and REmake for Gamecube/Wii, or you can get the HD version of REmake if you know how to safely pirate games (ie using a private tracker).
The HD version of remake is significantly better than the gamecube version, to the point where you are hurting your experience by playing it. It regularly goes on sale for like $3.
It was fun but had a weird identity crisis where it didn't know if it wanted to be a horror game or an action game and the end result is like a weird compromise between the two that feels weird.
I remember getting filtwred so hard by this game a year ago. But I ducked it up and suffered through it anyways. Decided to replay it this year and my second playthrough was an absolute blast. This game is only fin when you know what you're doing, not wandering around and backtracking to see if you missed something like a moron.
Can I play this anywhere else? Not sure if this is part of any collection on PC. I'm not a fan of most remasters and remakes anyway so I might just emulate the original on Xemu if you think that's the best version.
>Ghost Trick >DKC Tropical Freeze >Rocket League >Joust >Inside >Ico >Journey >Katana Zero >Hollow Knight >Yoshi's Island >Plants vs Zombies
a lot of those are quite simple, but I find simpler games are usually closer to being perfect since very little stands in the way of their design goals
personal 10/10s but with more obvious flaws, although ones that don't stop it being a 10 to me: >Shadow of the Colossus >Resident Evil 4 >Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee >TimeSplitters 2 >Metroid Prime
I don't like fps games, I enjoyed Metroid Prime since it felt so different from the norm. Should I bother with Time Splitters 2? Since SotC and RE4 are in your 10/10 I trust your judgment.
if you don't like fps games you probably won't enjoy TS2, it doesn't have conventional aiming, the gun is glued to the center and changes direction from there, instead of the aim being free, so it's similar to Perfect Dark and GoldenEye
that said you can emulate and use a mouse & keyboard injector through Dolphin, and play on hard to make up for it; haven't tried this myself but my gut instinct says it will make it too easy to stunlock enemies
who knows, maybe you had to be there and play co-op back in the day when it was new, but the amount of content, the style, the character, the music, it's a ton of fun
I have no problem with the artstyle. My problem with Dread is how they took away all the freedom from the player in exploring the place.
>Game starts >Get trapped in a small area until you fight a boss and progress to the next area >Get trapped in the next small area until you fight a boss and progress to the next area >Repeat until you have all abilities and then, JUST THEN, you can explore the game.
It's like the devs were too affraid of the average redditor complaining being lost in the game and choose the worst way possible to fix it.

Academy is a quantity over quality approach, of course it's the common pleb's preferred game.
Seeing you speaking about puzzles in a SW game legit got me interested in this. Is the single player campaign worth or it's more remembered for the multiplayer?
The single player is 100% worth it. It's story isn't mind-blowing but it's acceptable, people complain about not having force powers early in the game but this is only a few hours if you don't get stuck in an area or something. Multiplayer is still populated as well, I played a few matches over the weekend and it's still entertaining. All the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games are worth a playthrough.
yeah all that meme trash isn't necessary you could just posted the game, moron
Gonna hijack your thread and say that REmake is easily one of the most overrated games of all time. To be vastly inferior to its original game, and yet still be this praised just exemplifies the ignorance of the Resident Evil fanbase.
REtrash fricking sucks and it's not even the best version of RE1
you're a redditor homosexual parroting what he heard from jornos and e-celebs jerking off this turd as Le masterpiece!!!
But the game itself as a sidescroller is amazing, especially since you can just keep going, change difficulty, the level cap has been raised massively. The only downside is that they haven't released it on PC. If they did I would buy it for a 3rd time.
God, I always hated that cover.
Get that 8/10 get out of here.

Complete tonal mismatch to the RE4 we actually got. In fact the remake will probably end up being closer to the game this cover wishes it was for.

I have no idea how people could play this game. I've given it so man tries, but the framerate and visual on a 4k TV give me a headache.

They used to have pussy holes. I am not joking, look up the PS1 model.
Lisa is one of the stupidest things in the whole series, right up there with a sentient leech colony disguised as a Final Fantasy character.

as someone who loves Super Metroid, this game is pretty lackluster and boring imo.
it feels way more stiff and the artstyle makes it feel like a fangame made in Unity.
