Maybe its just me but I dont understand how caravans get profits outside of transporting goods. I imagine you scavenge to some degree but then youre also opening yourself up to raiding or rivals or traps or general dangers in vaults or ruins.
Thats true but raiders on average would number between 10-20 maybe more if theyve carved actual large territories and demand tribute. You need money to hire security. More money to arm them and protect them with some degree of gear, money for food, money for Stims/Rad X or Rad-Away and etc
Not a problem in NCR territory either. NCR doesn't really control the Mojave, despite their military presence.

She does say the NCR does shit about the Mojave and that's why some people are willing to side with the Legion just to get rid of the raiders. Everyone I've met who's from the NCR universally implies that the NCR territory is pretty much peaceful compared to the Mojave.

Now that I'm thinking about it, Cass does mention doing caravan runs back in California, and that they weren't nearly as exciting as in the Mojave. Yeah, the average person coming in from NCR territory isn't sitting there saying "Wow, the Mojave is just as bad as the ranch in California I used to live on".
