It really is a masterstroke of absurdity to make a DLC about vampire hunters, have vampire hunters recruit you, go to the vampire hunter fortress run by a guy SO extreme in his hate for vampires he got booted from the vigilants, go on your first vampire hunting mission and immediately become the lackey of a super special vampire princess.
My headcanon is that having a dragon soul makes you greedy and morally ambiguous by default so the born murderhobo Dragonborn kept Serana alive just to see where her home was so he could take everything that wasn't nailed down later. Hell he probably joined the Dawnguard for the same reason.

this is the most embarrasing thing about vampires in skyrim, they had one job - and in fact did it beforehand - even the werewolves in this game have special animations for ending their victims mid-battle
