classic jrpgs are artistic achievements on par with great literature and cinema in terms of writing, thematics, scoring, visual design, etc. especially early squaresoft games. I can’t think of a wrpg that strikes as a resonant a chord. I will also concede that modern jrpgs are trash though.
So what would these high class jrpgs be? When did that era end? There are still really good jrpg games that have come out recently. Nier, persona, yakuza
>Old good new bad.
Classic westoid move.
It’s true. When gaming became a lucrative industry pioneer developers with integrity and vision were gradually ousted and replaced with sterile professionals, corporate marketeers and pandering sell outs. If you think modern game studios care about anything other than money then you’re dead wrong.
If that's how it is in the west then I would say I pity you guys, but I really don't.
You get exactly what you deserve.
Got a genuine chuckle out of me. I would normally get mad at this post, but I don't think I can.
you can't get mad at something hilarious
I prefer WRPGs, and this is true. A single non-branching storyline allows the story to be much tighter and more coherent.
>Jrpgs are better when it comes to stories
true but none of the games in that pic have a good story
>none of the games in that pic have a good story
I can't recognize any of them, I am blessed.

JRPG's are a meme
meanwhile in the west:
>westoid humor
Dragon age inquisition had the same scene essentially with the iron bull.
it was also a shit game, so it checks out
>buzzword

>x is a meme
They're more like really bad anime. Like xenogears is not better written than escaflowne.
Yes, of course.
>All JRPGs are linear movies with no player choices
>Also player choices bad...because they just are!
>All WRPGs have player choices and "choose your own adventure" writing
If all subhuman phoneposters died, which sector of society would suffer from this?
I mainly play JRPGs and I despise storyhomosexuals like you.
Jrpgs are usually a lot better at using Music to underlie their stories, which is a big component.
They're all trash. 'Bubsy 3D' is unironically better.
I notice no one who praises videogame stories watches tv dramas or reads books. Japanese just put a j-drama plot inside of their games. You've seen one you've seen them all.
>I notice no one who praises videogame stories watches tv dramas or reads books
Things you pulled out of your ass for $400
I have also noticed no westoid pulling the "watch REAL mature media" actually knows any of it, otherwise they would know it's goyslop somehow even worse than westoid movie games.
Posting in a based thread that will make westoids seethe "b-b-b-but anime bad!".
anime=bad
manga=good
I disagree.
Jrpgs may have a bigger plot or more grand but they are poorly written so the whole thing falls apart.
WRPGs on the other hand tend to have a generic plot but they are far better written and more engaging so they make up for it.
The problem with Jrpgs is that they take these weird settings and try to tell serious stories in them, at the end of the day 90% of them fall apart and become trash by the middle game.
The ones who succeed turn out to be good.
Honestly i'd rather watch Anime than play a 100+ hour Jrpg with its shallow rpg mechanics, shallow gameplay and badly paced boring story.
It doesnt help that their presentation and cutscenes aged poorly, only Final Fantasy USED to have top of the line presentation but that is a thing of the past and has long been surpassed.
WRPGs can be both, you can find games that focus on gameplay and games that focus on the story.
While WRPGs tend to rely on a generic simple main story to push the adventure forward, the writing makes up for it with companions and side quests, even in the main story you will find bits of well written moments. Thanks to their presentation they can also be more immersive and engaging to the player. again depending on the developer.
CDPR for example is a cinematic rpg developer
Larian is a gameplay focused developer
TES series is more about lore, player freedom and exploration, it gives a good sense of adventure.
Disco Elysium and Planescape is more on dialogue, philosophical or metaphysical writing.
Fallout is a mix of both.
Jrpgs on the other hand tend to rely on something i find really cringe, and that is trying so hard to sound philosophical, using old European thinkers and quoting them with their silly anime aesthetics, grunts and waifus, it just lowers their value, and here is the thing most of the time those philosophical bits in Jrpgs are undercooked, even the devs dont understand them fully and the end result is a laughable pretentious piece of shit
You can feel the weight of this guy just by reading his post
What have it away?
Warpigs = hardcore gay sex
You will never be Japanese. Try being a flaming gaijin otacuck outside of Akihabara and you'll be lead out of establishments while asiatics will think you're a stupid manchild. It's the equivalent of walking around New York with an Elsa t-shirt and other various Disney merchandise.
