Need more info, it's not as simple as Z-moves or Max moves, the translations I've seen specify that it's about buffing the type as a whole. Increasing the power of a move is just an example.
Gimmick adds a STAB for a certain type or if the Pokémon already has that type it just boosts it.
For example, crystalline Pikachu can receive a Fire type bonus.
So it's just increased STAB moves basically?
It turns a coverage move into a STAB move or makes STAB moves stronger.

It's probably simpler than it sounds really. The gimmick sounds like a mix and match of things they've previously done.
The gimmick functions like Steelworker, giving the Pokemon an extra STAB type, but it feels like the move Hidden Power in that you don't know what type that is. Unless an npc will tell you, you'll have to experiment and figure out for yourself which Pokemon get a boost to which type of move. It also seems like instead of boosting a third move type, you can increase your existing STAB type(s) power even further. And that this functions like Mega Evolution in that it lasts the entire battle unless the Pokemon faints or returns. To show the effect is active the Pokemon looks crystalized, and some Pokemon species get special forms for their added type.

So from what I'm gathering is that it's just the gems gimmick, but semi-permanent. It may have to do with the crystalization it may not, but probably does. Your Pokemon becomes crystallized with the aura of a specific type and then they gain increased power for that type, possibly equivalent to STAB but that is speculation. This would also mean that if it is a type that matches their own type, they would then get double the power just because. Form changes are not confirmed and anyone suggesting as such is either speculating or bullshiting
